Hurricane Irma

I am not sure they have a clue. I am going to lay a early bet. Irma clips south Florida, goes across the gulf and hits Houston. This is not a dream or fantasy I WANT to happen. I just don't understand what force it going to get that bitch to do a hard fucking right at Cuba. Newton's laws just don't jive with the forecast.

If Irma is the strongest storm ever(in the top 5 at least) is a little high or low pressure going to steer her?

The storm, like running water, or electricity, will take the path of least resistance. That happens to be up the Florida coast due to a mild cool front that has pushed down through Texas recently. The same cool front, incidentally, keeping the effects of Katia in Mexico and away from Texas. And, I believe it is a high pressure system in the Atlantic that is expected to keep Jose in the Atlantic, and away from a US landfall...

I hope that I'm one of the Mikes down here that your thinking about...

Our concerns now have shifted to my parents who live in Sarasota. Their house is about as secure as a place can be against typical hurricane force winds, but if winds get up to 150 or they get hit by a "microburst", all bets are off.

Interesting times.

Fair enough, i don't know what controls the damn things. I was feeling pretty damn good when i posted that if you know what i mean. I was just thinking out loud " have you ever noticed nothing goes as planned". With that thought and some alcohol i was left with. "Wouldn't it be the most fucked up thing if Houston got hit again". I mean WTF the world seems to be all fucked right now so why not. So i put it out there on the long shot it happens i can say "i told you so" . Hell 2 million are going to lay claim to the "i told you Florida was fucked". Well i like to be unique.

Lash,
If you live in Tampa then you can be "one of the Mikes". If you live in one of the outer worlds, you'll heave to be "one of the other Mikes".
Hope you're trenched in well and things turn out all right for you.
Stay safe.

Just checking in. I'm in Tampa. House is buttoned up, yard is either collected, lashed down or stowed in the sheds. Both the big generators are running great and ready to plug into the switch panel when needed.

Damn Brother, I can't tell ya how on edge I am for you guys down there. It sickens me to think what may and/or could happen when this bitch hits. I know our Mike's have, and are, doing everything they can to prepare as well as possible, but I pray you guys ride this well and come out golden. We know ya gotta lot of shit going down, but when ya can chime in and let us know you're ok if ya would.

Best to you guys !!!!! You're not gonna be alone in this, you know that. We'll do what we can do to help. You know that.

edit: Didn't mean to make this sound like I was just talking about "Our Mike's" after re-reading this post. All of our guys down there is who this was for. Just wanna make that clear.

I will 2nd that. After, if you guys need anything please let us know. I don't donate much to "charities" for fear the money will go to waste. I would much much rather donate to someone I know. don't be scared or to humble to ask. One day I may need help.

I am as perplexed as you are on the 40* right turn this storm will have to take in order to come up the west coast of Florida!

Where, exactly is that junction? There are several where those two roads cross/meet.

Looks fake, but regardless I am so relieved my family is in Georgia now and that perhaps their homes will spared the worst.

However, I am now filled with dread for all of the people of the FL Gulf Coast.........

I wouldn't call that fake. I was in the "eclipse" traffic 3 weeks I ago. I can attest that Nebraska looked just like that. I can only imagine what a hurricane does to traffic.

thats it. why didnt we see it before. Its the eclipse's fault, and that was Trump's fault. It's all becoming clear....as donkey shit.

FAF.
GIS says that pic is at least four years old. I'm guessing closer to 15.

Looks my area will take a direct category 2 or at the least a 1 (VALDOSTA GA).

It will be interesting. These houses here are NOT designed to with stand that. Our fingers are crossed and we are riding this out like many others.

Be safe friends in FL and GA, this one is going to be a real bitch. Get some rest as you have a long day tomorrow and following.

Here's an excellent consolidated list of tabulated barometric, wind and water level readings across the affected area, along with a good representation of the extent of tropical storm and hurricane force winds. Sorry about the picture size, not sure why it's still so small when I select full size.

Hi Guys.. CDiPrecision is right in the way of this hot mess. Shop is secure and we are all ready here at home. I hope we fare ok. Pam's mom and dad are here with us and dogs too..My biggest worry is power outages, and how long it takes to restore afterwards, Wish us luck.. We need it

A couple other quick notes, Cuba sure did a number on her, thankfully, as wind speeds are way down from earlier possibilities. Commies are still good for something at least. I know, it's looking to do some restrengthening, but that is looking less and less significant and impactful than earlier predicted. Turn north is happening, slow moving for now and that is causing the water to have more time to stir up, bringing temps down a bit. Eyewall going through a replacement cycle, have to see how well it transitions that one before landfall. Hopefully the wind sheer that is picking up can strip off some more of its power. Anything less shitty I'm sure will be welcomed by FL.

Keep giving her hell man. I remember how shitty it feels to have them come in during the middle of the night. You'll have daylight soon, which doesn't prevent a blessed thing, but for whatever reason always seemed to take a bit of stress off.

Thanks bogey. I have been watching the radar and it looks to be moving east of projection.

Looks like the intersection on the south side of Ban Po bridge in South Korea...on a normal day.

Meteorologists are very good at deciding what the weather will do based on CURRENT conditions. Mother Nature usually has a different battleplan.

Fake as fuck. FLDOT has not opened both directions of travel outbound, like that picture shows, on any road.

Very true. I have to say that the governor and the state emergency planning have been more on it this time than I've ever seen before. The evacuation of millions of people was handled with very little drama on the roads. Water and gas were never not available for more than very short periods of time.

Now, it may be only because this is such a slow moving storm that all of this was possible, but nonetheless...

On the radar it looks like a new giant eye is forming.

Ive followed this some on the national news this week and wondered why they hadn't. If for example, you've got a 6 lane freeway, have 5 going northbound with a single lane left open for southbound traffic. It would seem logical in my mind.

Stay safe fellas.

Because they didn't have to. FLDOT was very on this and at times opened up the emergency lanes, but only during times of heaviest traffic. There was no problems with unmoving traffic or I-95/I-75 parking lot scenarios.

Consider what happens to heavy traffic crossing from Florida into Georgia. Better to regulate the flow to something sustainable by the rest of the system.

The amount of police and DOT manpower to make that happen safely was not realistic, and southern flow of supplies necessitated keeping those lanes open. What needs to happen in these areas is a return to the reasoning that the Eisenhower Interstate System was originally created for: The rapid evacuation of major cities. That was more for the Cold War than natural disaster, but the need is obviously there now more than ever with the population explosion we've had over the last couple decades. Lane expansions at these bottlenecks of evacuation prone areas needs to happen.

Irma so powerful she sucks the ocean up.

What's the odds of that happening? I know, 100% today. RIP but I don't think Irma is at fault here.
