Tom Irwin's Response to Me regarding the UK Article

Still waiting for your comment on Oil Filter Suppressors,

Should we make it okay to attach an Oil Filter to a pistol or rifle ?

Personal Responsibility, so it's okay to tape a coke bottle to my pistol and go to the local indoor range ?
I want to be a responsible shooter and protect others hearing, the coke bottle will help

I mean if you can't afford a suppressor, and don't want to wait to clear it, a plastic bottle is the perfect substitute for the masses... isn't that the argument, you can't afford a $20k Full Auto, so by a $200 Bump Stock... same thing. Suppressor too expensive, how about adapters for plastic bottles to bring more people into the illusion of shooting suppressed.

How many more suppressed shooters are out there waiting for their $20 adapter vs the $200 tax stamp. Bring more into the fold.

Even though I have a double hand full of cans on form 1"s dating back to the late 70's. Yes, I see nothing wrong with suppressing a firearm via anything. You guys what to be like euro will get on the can wagon, it's concurred rude to shoot over there w/o one an they are across the counter items, which they should be here as well. Your not allowed to drive w/o a muffler on your car are you? Jake brakes are not allowed within most city's, where is the real difference other than intrusion into your life an pocket? If it's about sound control lest make it about sound control, not people control while stealing from them as well!

He took the time and called Lowlight the owner of this site and and gave him his official version and his word..Why is it so motherfucking hard to take a mans word for something and give him the benefit of the doubt..So are we to doubt Tom and Frank because their word is not good enough and some POS British publication skewed the story..This is whats wrong with "OUR" fucking society now and we cant even stick up for the good guys on our side who built their name on their reputation...The fucking libtards stick up for each other and we cant..It aint looking looking good for us gents.

I said nothing one way or another about the conversation. I simply said that something stated generally would end the flap. And then I went on to say that a few days isn't enough time to adequately respond anyway. Stand the fuck down.

I have 32 suppressors, please tell me where this suppressor bandwagon is I want to get on ...

But i get your point, who is the government to tell anyone a plastic coke bottle taped to the end of the rifle is good or bad.

While we're at it, let's get rid of that government time and expense of making sure how many things are actually safe and reliable. Companies will keep our best interests front and center, no worries at all. You don't need them to tell you a pinto is a great car.

Here is an AI /Tom Story for those watching

Back when I lived I Connecticut, I would travel to Syracuse NY for lunch with Tom. Each week we'd have lunch and talk shooting, rifles, business, etc.

The result of those conversations brought this into the US Market

SH_FLG_Covert1-1-1024x680.jpg

This was not easy bringing the Covert into the US. It was considered James Bond, off limits to civilians, etc,

I know how to operate, how to bring things in that benefit US shooters. How to lose a battle in order to win a war.

These are my rifles,

FranksCovert-1.jpg

I drove 4 Hours plus each way to have Lunch week after week, I put in the time and effort highlighting the positives .

One day some of you will figure out that creating a battle out of every little thing will cause you lose more than you gain.

I am out, Walking Dead is on, LOL

Well stated and the "bring more into the fold" argument is an oft used argument and I understand the context of your post, BUT....
To debate the more into the fold; at what price? I'm not a fan of selling out for popularity or to win over people opposed to my views and/or principles. Those converts are usually temporary anyhow.

Tom sounds like a good guy. I have no issues with him or his company. People are taken out of context all the time. It's unfortunate it happened to him.

The euro can bandwagon. I grew up in the buyer beware world, I see nothing wrong with it. When common sense went out the window (pushed is more like it)an uncle stepped up, it's only gotten worst from where I stand. This country is where it's at do to over regulating, because of stupid people. Ever wonder why the warning sticker on the radiator cowl says "Stop engine before changing belts". Or why Ford had to pay out 3.5 million because a bitchs kid ran from the law in Atl Ga n killed his ass DRT because Ford failed to warn the shit head the car could travel faster than the posted speed as long as his foot was to the floor. Stupid is as stupid does, people, it's about people, not the item.

First, Walking Dead has been shit for better than a year. Almost two years now. I know, I shouldn't be judging a movie about zombies, on what sorts of actions defy all common sense, but I just cannot help it. The amount of stupidity that shows up this far into the game, just seems totally implausible.

Anyway, I'm curious if you're talking about creating a battle out of every little thing, in terms of this topic and discussion in general, or as a reason why Tom and/or AI wouldn't make this a legal issue with the reporter/media?

No interest in further discussion if it's the first part, that appears to have been beat to death already. If it's the second reason, I would be interested in hearing your reasoning on that, as I really can't think of a down-side to them taking legal action, unless Tom's discussion with the reporter was more ambiguous than what he shared with you.

Frank, in all those visits to Syracuse, how many suppressor shops did you visit? ;)

There's a lot of bullshit associated with giving Tom crap over this setup, but the larger point of ceding an inch is not lost on those of us who've NO ability to exercise 2nd Amendment rights like you and most others can legally do.

You know, my AAC can shot several 1 inch groups today on a gun that shoots .25 with the Templar or without one. This can has been in a drawer for years because of this sort of shit performance.

It was loose on the can mount so I chucked it up and used a diamond hone to take .0005 or so off the seating shoulder. Now it clicks over on the last tooth and locks up tight. I hope it shoots well when I go back out there Tuesday.

Translation - anyone interested in shooting precision rifles at distant targets anymore, or is this now DramaHide? Chill out, shoot some goddamn guns cheap, expensive, common, or rare...and we can see what happens with this AI thing as the spectators we truly are while enjoying our sport at the range.

Its the same thing with asshats trying the CCW their AR15 SBR's and pistols.

There seems to be a strong whiff here that just because of X, Y and Z reasons "bump stocks" are or should be on the table or in other words we must be flexible and give a little to keep the rest of what little we've got left.

WAKE THE HELL UP - every damn gun law passed after December 15th, 1791 is unconstitutional thanks to 9 black robed shysters called the Supreme Court, a power grabbing Congress, overreaching Executive branch and worst of all a bunch of damn fools that doesn't understand what the death of a thousand cuts is to each and every right they thought they were born with.

Whatever you give up today of someone else's that you don't care about, only hastens the day you give up everything you hold dear and I mean everything.

+ 1
Plain an simple truth right there.

All,
Divide an conquer tactic is age old but works perfect on those who don't understand 4-5 moves ahead in the real game. Nice to know who here is in the game to the end an who is just protecting what they perceive as main stream items/logic. Wonder how this thread would go if say a 1 man band went off the deep end an took out bunch of tic's from afar an then wiped out the first team to show up, think they would be after rifles with scopes, let alone Dangerous Sniper Rifles? Or say a hand full of guys ran into a mall an X-mass dressed as fire fighters an hosed the people/place with gasoline an matched it. In either of the two made up events where is the difference in your thinking ? Was it the item that should be banded or was it the people that should be held accountable. Keep giving what you don't have use for, just like ray-gun an the NRA did to those of us in the title II world. Keep thinking small an only one move ahead an see how that works out for ya in the long run.

This is hard to argue against, however it's driving this non-issue down a tangent.

As i said before, Mr. Irwin should have ignored any question related to bump stocks or anything else not to do with his business. But he didn't. I'm satisfied with the explanation relayed through Frank Galli. Others are not, and underwear is getting twisted.

Now what?

Am I hearing you correctly? You think an $900, government-approved suppressor is OK, but a DIY can made without government permission is inherently bad?

i'm not a fan of oil can suppressors, "arm braces" for ar pistols, bumpstocks and other such things. TOO close to the "legal" line and i wont risk my future on stuff that is "legally" shady.
now i say "legal" in quotations because as was said above by gunfighter, none of those rules are truely legal anyway. BUT, you or i would be just as incarcerated, legal or no.

so where do i fall in on the AI dude? truth will come out. i dont know the guy, and i dont know lowlight. both could be the best guys in the world, both could be the biggest POS's ever. never met them, so i can not say to a certainty. it's great that lowlight has the ability to talk to the guy, and vouches for him. but again, i dont know either of them. do both of them have more credibility than the media? that should be a no-brainer.

i know the media will twist ANYTHING you say and can make you seem like you are 100% for something, when you are actually 100% against it. they are liars through and through. as a gun enthusiest, talking to them as subject matter expert isnt going to go well for you. they are NOT there to represent you in a positive light. anything and everything you say will be twisted and used against the 2nd, you, and us. if AI dude didnt know that, he should have; and damn well better now.

hopefully they misrepresented his words, and that comes out. i'd love to see them pay, but they rarely do. if he did say it, then that truth will come out as well and it'll take care of itself.

that's my 2 cents. and you know how much you can buy with that these days.

AI needs to issue an un-ambiguous statement supporting the right to keep and bear ALL arms, including semi-automatics. Anything else plays into the antis' hands. What is so goddamn hard to understand about that? "Well, $10,000 bolt-actions are ok, but $400 machine guns should be banned," is conceding the point that SOME guns are OK, but SOME guns aren't. Now that we've established that, we're just arguing over who gets to decide which ones aren't OK (i.e. you conceded you're a whore, now we're just arguing over the price). Fuck that. ALL guns are OK - it's what someone DOES with them that matters. If you don't believe that, all the way to your bones, you're no fucking friend of mine. That's not "eating our own."

I HOPE Mr. Irwin's words were misrepresented. I hope he smacks this reporter's dick in the dirt.

And before you start motherfuckering me, I AM an AI owner and recent customer. I don't own 20 of them, so maybe my opinion doesn't matter, but how many $8,000 rifles do I have to buy before my opinion does matter?

Hell, I thought he got killed by a stingray.

"Irwin died on 4 September 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingraybarb while filming an underwater documentary film titled Ocean's Deadliest."

Says right there. Took it from an article.

BTW, if any of the butthurt would like to boycott the 2018 AI Classic at Core I'll gladly buy your spot since I missed registration.

Unfortunately there wasn't much snoozin going on with just shy of 100hr in the office last week. Definitely lost out though... Or maybe I didn't if I can pick up someones spot for pennies on the dollar? I don't think most PRS shooters care about this however as I'm sure they see through it just like myself.

And as an aside seldom do I see people from the Commonwealth really grasp the reason for the Second Amendment.

Shooters will voice support for some of their restrictions or think we should accept some restrictions in the aftermath of some psychopath wreaking havoc.

I just think that there is a cultural barrier that they can not surpass to allow them to fully grasp and accept the reason the FF put the Second Amendment into our Constitution.

Just my worthless psychoanalysis.

Unfortunately, this.

I don't see a need for that myself, then again I do see a need for RC 4X4 trucks, remote cameras, an other stove/kitchen things being made an parked in a shitter/pisser line, awaiting the right person to arrive. The end result is the same ain't it?

Dude, it's not 1917,

We don't live in a world we wish it was, we live in the world we have, there are unintended consequences around every corner.

In this world, since 1994 "Stuff" gets banned because of how it looks vs what it actually does regardless of the statistics. In this world, politicians can move on you at the drop of the hat and they are ignorant as shit, there is no logic in their actions. In this world, if you skyline yourself you risk a lot, "items" as you put it, can easily open the door to restrictions. Plenty of places have heavy restrictions, so giving them more fuel for their fire is stupid.

Your dreamy world of righteous absolutism is meaningless, we have to operate under the rules of today and not how things were back in the day.

Tom's "Official AI Response"

It is necessary that I clarify to all of you the situation regarding a recent report in an English newspaper and set the record straight.

I never said that the US needs greater gun controls. Period. Words I said were taken out of context and the headline does not reflect the conversation I had or my beliefs.

I rarely speak to reporters (and after this experience I’ll be sure to continue that trend) but I had been asked to discuss our company’s recent financial report. The reporter published a separate article within a few hours after the first one. This one was a positive article - but also had mistakes. He got my name wrong and said the new AI was formed in 2015, when as many of you well know, it was formed in 2005.

To be clear, I support gun rights and the Second Amendment. I am also a member of the NRA.

I was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and came to the USA in 1982. I became a citizen, by choice, in 1989, and I am proud to be an American. I have called the USA home for more than 35 years and fell in love with this country because we have freedoms here that nowhere on earth you can enjoy.

As for AI’s tradition in the USA, AI customers and our presence here are of paramount importance to me. I have spent the past 18 years with Accuracy International and invested a lot of my time and AI dollars into meeting the needs of our US customers. I will continue to do that.

I have been a member of Snipers Hide from its beginning, frequenting and posting on this forum regularly. I have taken feedback from your posts and incorporated them into our products and processes to better support our community. I can assure you I will continue to take your feedback seriously.

I'd prefer not to get banned, so I'm just going to say I disagree with you. Have a good day.

As long as there is a Walmart, Lowes, NAPA, Grocery Store, or the like, the means to off whoever you wish will always be there, it's not the item it's the mind. Always has been always will be, except to those who can't or won't think for there selfs. Never play their game, make them play yours or show them the fallacy of their logic!

Long before any of us were born,

If you continue to act like it hasn't, you'll forever be stuck in a loop that is easily sidestepped by others.

As it is, based on "Personally, I don't see the benefit" you were ready to eat your own. Nothing about restrictions, bans, etc, you filled in your blanks.

You jumped right into the divide and conquer without even looking many of you were wrongly gleeful about doing so.

Hey if anyone is still looking to ditch their AI rifle over this I'll straight up swap you a DTA SRS 26in 300winmag with the new buttstock and 34mm scope mount for a AI AXMC .300 or .338 or I'll buy it for .25 cents on the dollar if it infuriated you that much.

Wrong, I was pointing out what you were aspiring to, glad you finally seen that simple fact!
I would never add to the D&C tactic, I fell for that shit in my younger years, but wised up quickly there after. It's not/never the item it's the person, odd we kill many with drugs an DUI's yet that money still rolls along, but let a gun be involved an the uproar begins, why because it's about control, period. They don't give a fuck about lives, an that sir is fact.

Don't see it that way, you guys were all on the bandwagon is how it read to me. crying personal responsibility when that ship sailed and we all know does not address the issue.

I will be the first one to say it's not about the gun, but the fact of the matter is, Tom in both the article and in Fact never called for a ban of any kind. He just said, "Personally I don't see the benefit" but you all insisted it was criminal to have this opinion, even though a lot of have the same opinion and sorry, but I am not gonna lose something positive over something stupid.

Control, bans, etc, were never part of the discussion, but that is where you all took it

lost interest, LOL

Cause I was the only guy to go to the source and get the details, meanwhile the rest of your bandwagon bullshitters just went straight to attack mode.

If you can't accept my word, like many of you didn't, and now Tom's ... fuck off, it's pretty easy.

You took, "Personally, I see no benefit in them" as an attack on the 2A, who's fault it that ... meanwhile every other word out of your mouths is probably fake news, but this time, it shot your foot, now you look like an idiot.

I will be happy to delete anyone's account, just post, "me" and it will be gone.

Control, bans, etc, were never part of the discussion, but that is where you all took it
That is where they want it to end up, which is their D&C tactic. Pointing out the fallacy's is where the uneducated from moms basement, an walking mentality wounded, learn to think for their self's an hopefully keep the 2nd alive for many generation's to come. The boot lickers in this thread like guns an that is great, but they need to stand up for what they believe in, not where they are pushed to, by those they idolize. A self thinking person is the most dangerous thing, to their cause!
Defending a friend/buddy is always the right thing to do, if they were wrong so be it. Defend, but temper is the best move, but never play into the other sides hand, which is where this was going from the onset.

Whatever floats your boat.
Don't worry about it, this happens ever now an again. Just the way we roll at times to keep things in check. Most of those I admire/trust on here like me have been banned a few times. I take it like standing in the corner, that way when the shit really hits no one has to second guess which side I'll be on.

Couple of observations after reading many talk past each other:

- Industry leaders should be mindful that their own personal opinions can be made out to be position statements about the entire field. This is why many organizations have media relations professionals. One of the key advantages for this - it is a buffer between the organization, the media, and the public in more ways than one. If the statement goes bad - they can be fired, and a statement of clarification can be issued. It is all well and good that Tom said “in my opinion” and in his statement here said “I support” - but what is left out of his statement is - while it is my opinion, I support the right of others...b/c freedom (that is also missing from LL’s statements found herein). As such, it reads like a limitation on 2a rights. Now do I think that is the intent? No. I think they are quickly drafted statements.

- Secondly, while I understand why some believe that fighting every battle can be less effective in the end, I would encourage those that hold such beliefs to reconsider. Appeasement as a long term strategy hasn’t been working in the practical for @ 100 yrs now and it is only accelerating. The latest examples have occurred in WA / OR and CA.

For the record: I do not own a bumpstock, oil filter suppressors, sig brace, or anything that skirts the law. I do have @ a dozen stamps and two AIs. I am also all about the freedom to do whatever you want as long as you are not infringing on anyone else’s ability to do the same. The divide and conquer thing......sure would be nice to see us all get on the same page.

There is like seven comments by people on the actual article itself. And looking at his pretax profit tells me this sort of lousy journalism can have a financial impact on a respected member of our community, his company, and his employees.

The meaning of signatures don't seem to hold true in the long run, recalling the early days here. Power corrupts, never forget that simple fact. I remember Cunningham an Driscoll in the early years before they were forced to pull the yellow an black handle, an I remember when Cunningham fell.

Amazing we are not allowed to have opinions, and even in a discussion that is pretty specific we have to say, "I support your right to be play with your bump stock even though it has the potential to hurt me in the long run", meanwhile several of you continue to ignore the unintended consequences already in place months ago.

"For the record: I do not own a bumpstock, oil filter suppressors, sig brace, or anything that skirts the law. I do have @ a dozen stamps and two AIs. I am also all about the freedom to do whatever you want as long as you are not infringing on anyone else’s ability to do the same"

My case in point, here is a third party reading of the proposed bill, reads like it infringes on my freedom.

That language is very complicated. While bump fire stocks will be illegal, so will many other accessories. Worse, it seems like much of the language leaves grey areas open for interpretation.

When you can no longer buy a Gieselle trigger for your AR because it lets you shoot faster, don't complain. Unintended Consequences that none of you righteous defenders will fix writing your already republican congressman.

Hate to break it to you guys, "We do more to support your rights than anything you are currently doing" this site alone promotes this industry and sport beyond any piss ant thing you might have done raising your fist and shouting at the sun. Having to spell out these things should not be a qualifier when you look at our actions and history. All of the sudden we have to qualify bullshit because you are new to the game or us. This site stands in the face of gun control and has never backed down from expressing that. Why am I forced to stand in front of the crowd and cite my bonafides because half of you having issues with comprehension?

What you guys miss, especially you finger pointing idiots, is, I stay in my lane. That is huge fact, I don't go out of my way to give my opinion on bullshit we all know is an issue. Even the NRA posted,

In the days following the shooting, the NRA released a statement, writing that it believes "devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations."

Maybe I missed the outrage and burning of NRA Cards ? One of 2A Warriors do me a favor and post the picture you took when you burned your membership card?

Excuse me if everything I write here does not meet your standards of excellence but frankly, unitl I see you do something, I will continue to give my opinion. If that runs counter to you, sorry about that, but I am busy looking at the big picture vs some micro agression bullshit.

Might just have to re-instate the long standing rule we had on "No Politics" because clearly many of you don't get it... read the rules and look at the date.

Maybe I missed the outrage and burning of NRA Cards ? One of 2A Warriors do me a favor and post the picture you took when you burned your membership card?
I burnt mine in 1985 do to the all mighty Ray-Gun an NRA throwing us NFA guys under the bus for the Brady. May be we should have stood up an demanded scoped rifles be banned as well, but we were and are a little smarter that that.
