There was a black gang banger who had been shot and stabilized at the hospital i work at, for what ever reason he needed to be transfered. Security suggested we cover his face with a blanket to protect his identity enroute to the ambulance.
I showed them a picture of a Kkk hood on the internet, And said like this one? since you are trying to disguise him?

My daughter is reading Huckleberry Finn right now for school, and read To Kill A Mockingbird last year.

Huck Finn showed in literature the humanity of a black man at a time they were considered chattel. Had my kids watch a three odd hour video made in the 70s. I cringed at the language out of fear an 8-9 year old would mimic it but all they got out of it was the sense of the adventure Jim and Huck had.

I think every conflict or war has that effect, not just Vietnam. When you put your life in your brother's hands (and he the same with you), racism tends to fall away. Only loyalty and trust matter.

From what I understand, there was massive racial tension and issues in Vietnam, but not among combat and line units. In the rear areas, however, there was a lot of tension. Especially late in the war, reflecting tensions in post '68 America. But among combat units, the general feeling was one of... we're all green here. And we are all going to get each other home. I wasn't there... so this is based on reading. But it certainly supports PMI's assertion.

As for racism... it's everywhere. It's ingrained in the human genome. Because fear of the 'other' was a survival mechanism dating back to standing up on two feet on the Veldt and separating ourselves from Stanley Kubrick's monkeys. We have made tremendous progress in just a couple of generations... on many levels. Racism, sexism... all kinds of 'ism's' Does humanity have further to go? Yup. But compared to places where people hack each others hands off because their grandfather's grandfather's grandfather belonged to the wrong tribe... SH is pretty darn progressive.

I believe you confuse bias with racism.

Racism is no joke and magnitudes higher in its insidious harm than an individuals bias.

Sure bias can be dehumanizing and you probably lead a culture into racism by exploiting a bias.

Im thinking an educated population can differentiate.

I don’t have any racism connected to a persons genetic makeup. I was engaged to an African woman in college but she had to return to the Congo because of family issues.

Yes I kind of define racism as an institutional policy, our segragated military was an example of racism.

A person espousing such segregation based on race would be a racist.

A person that makes a claim of dislike based on an arbitrary bias would be prejudiced. You pre judge the person.

And I agree some highly educated are racist/biased. Id argue political parties that tailor parts of their platform based on race is a racist policy. How could it not be. You are treating or offering people something different than the other based solely on race. Racism has established itself as a negative but when a group gets something from it that group considers it a positive.

ie - This race gets hiring preference solely based on their race.

Some might like that but it is wrong as it creates division from the other that does not receive such favor.

The key is to base favor on performance to earn favor rather than arbitrary characteristics.

Someone once said something about content of character not color of skin. Sadly no one listened.

Personally as an Irish person Im discriminated against in the porn industry. I dont think any Celts can reach the depths required to succeed and are eliminated because of an arbitrary characteristic.

Many people don't know, or won't admit that there is a big difference between racism, and bigotry. As I understand it, racism believes that one race is superior, or inferior to another one based on Genetic race (caucasian, asian, negroid, Indian, south sea islander etc), where bigots simply believe they are superior, or other People are inferior based on traits, behavior, economic status, place or residence, religion, etc.

While most racists are also bigots, not all bigots are racists. Some people simply think others are inferior to them because the other people belong to a group such as antifa. Many antifa members are bigots toward any conservatives, and many conservatives are bigots toward antifas. That doesn't make them racists though.

Top photo: man on right is a hard worker form the pac north west, hes helping out. 2 in the middle are from Alabama or Georgia probably Birmingham or Atlanta they're Faking It in hopes of going to a hospital and getting some poontang. The man on the left wasn't a racist but is now after he found out his buddies got some poo Tang after he carried them for 17 miles.

Second photo: the black man who just got a tooth knocked out for not helping is buds is being held back from beating the s*** out of the white guy for stealing his seat. The white guy is obviously tired from working.

Third photo: the three African American men are obviously stoned as s***, especially the one being carried. The man in front threatened to kill the white man if he didn't help. Later the three will somehow blame it on the white man and get promotions, while the white man is court-martialed sent back to the States and has to create a new company in the landscaping business.

My mother was born in the depression and still can't see what it did to her psyche even though she and my dad worked hard and lived a very luxurious life. In the late 60's and 70's when the civil rights movement polarized more than unified, I could see her leaning towards the racist side of her normal self and I mentioned it - and she was so insulted. I don't feel like I'm racist or sexist or assholist but I know I lied at least on the third one.

Excellent point. I hadn't considered narcissism. I just get irritated at people throwing around the term racist, when the person they are trying to insult may be more properly referred to as a bigot, or narcissist. I don't consider myself a racist, but I do think I am superior to people I consider to be idiots who don't think things through. I'm just not sure if that makes me a bigot, or a narcissist. I'm not superior be cause of any genetic happenstance, I'm superior because I'm not quite as big of an idiot as the person I feel superior to..race has nothing to do with the issue.
