Desert Tech TRASOL Official Thread

so i can't restore my last purchase i see its in the workings. for the account do we use our existing username and password for the account or do we create a new one?

thank you Gents
@cruze5 once you upgrade, you’ll be able to sign in with the same account you had before.

Downloaded the update from app store, restored previous purchase. Looking good so far. Thanks!

Standard update verification showed up on my iPhone this morning and I ran it. Got note that TRASOL was updated to version 2.0 free trial version and to click “Restore Purchase” if I’d previously paid for the app. Clicked and entered Apple ID password and got message back that validation had failed.

Has anyone successfully updated to version 2.0 and been able to restore their purchase by validating through Apple store?

Has the updated fix even been released via the Apple Store or did I just have the old information just get to my phone this morning? This was the first update notice I’ve actually gotten via Apple Store.

Hey @pell1203 , you probably downloaded the previous version (v2.0.0). The new patch (v2.0.1) just released about 30 mins ago.

If you open the App Store, go to the Updates tab and pull to refresh. The new TRASOL update should appear; if not, just search for the app and update manually.

(y)Thanks! All squared up now. Deleted what I had and re-downloaded from the Apple Store. Version 2.0.1 on phone now. Things seem to be working again. :giggle::cool:

Thanks, Collin. Today's update fixed the broken purchase restoration.

So far, the new version is working MUCH better than the older one.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. We look forward to hearing your feedback on the new update.

If you like the app, please don’t forget to leave a review on the App Store! The more reviews it has, the easier it will be for new shooters to find TRASOL.

Latest update downloaded, purchase restored, account created, equipment profiles created, headed to the range tomorrow. Can’t wait!

Updated and everything is working great!
Can a powder "Temperature" increase, variation field be added so we can put a value to track our MV?

Well I missed that it was an iOS update only. Purchased and not opening on Android 9. :-(

Android user here. I'm still not able to save my settings. Goes back to the default settings if u close and reopen the app. Any fix for this coming up?

I read in the email something - Andriod was on the todo list, but they have had their hands full re-writing this with the new developer from the ground up. No timeline was given

So, I downloaded this for iOS yesterday. It seems to be working perfectly. I did some comparisons to 4DOF, Strelok Pro and AB. The load used was 6.5 Creed, 140 ELD 2750 fps. All inputs into the apps were absolutely identical and triple checked. Spin and Coriolis were turned off.

TRASOL tracked to within a 0.1 MRAD of AB for both elevation and wind (10mph from 90 degrees) all the way to 1500 yards. At 2k there was a difference of 0.6 mils elevation ( 29.9 mils AB, to 30.5 mils TRASOL)

I'm not sure I like the HUD feature, it's a little too tricked out for me.

I was also surprised there was no bullet library to choose from.

Interestingly enough, while Trasol and AB tracked together, the same was true of Strelok and 4DOF to 1500 yards. At 2k, Strelok and 4DOF started to diverge with Strelok being 31.5mil elevation to 4DOF's 32.8 mil.

Edit: One small gripe, output is only in one type of unit at a time. Switching from Mils to Moa and back is a bit cumbersome.

The triple wind zone calculator is really a great feature.

YES! Thank you DT, this new update is Tits. User interface is awesome and extremely easy and quick to use.

Downloaded the update maybe 30 minutes ago, restored the purchase and sync'd everything perfectly. This is great. Thanks for all the hard work.

@Skookum, your comparison exercise put TRASOL and AB tracking closely together and Strelok and 4DOF also tracking closely with each other. My question is, how much difference was there between the two subgroups?

Particularly interested in differences between TRASOL and 4DOF. Can you add any additional observations? Thanks.

Hundley - thanks so much for getting this back on track - much appreciated.

Any chance of having wind speed and mover speek in KLM per hour as per previous version ?

Thanks very much mate .

The new version has loaded in my phone well running iOS 11 and the purchase restore was seamless. Haven't gotten out to test the solutions, but it worked great before the update. Glad to see this has legs again.

Will the software automatically backup load profiles now? When the previous major update happened on the V1 platform, I lost about 30 load profiles that I had thought were backed up and am not going to spend the time and money to regather all of that information if it might happen again.

Do you have actual dope to be able to tell which solution matches the reality?

Nope, I was just doing an apples to apples comparison in the output of the ballistic engines.

If you look at it though, out to 1000 yards all are virtually identical. They only really begin to diverge once they are well into sub-sonic.

I use Strelok Pro for ELR, but I use the multi BC function so it's not a fair comparison.

@dylanmj I’m not 100% familiar with the inner workings of the old app (different developer), but from what I’ve seen there were some pretty major bugs affecting the backup/sync process. Those issues are no longer a concern as of v2.0.

The new app will backup your data relatively frequently when you have an internet connection... and you can always do it manually from the Profile screen. As long as I have a say in this project, you can rest assured that your equipment data will stay safe on multiple redundant databases in the “cloud”.

Got the new version up and running. Wow! Great improvement. Much cleaner and quicker to input info. I love the backup option.

Skookum touched on this briefly

Keep in Mind that this is not a true apples-to-apples comparison

4DOF - uses a CDM and requires you find the true range zero or zero angle at 100 yards

AB for IOS and Kestrel will proactively adjust the elevation to account for CWAJ when applying wind to the solution and can use a CDM or BC

Trasol - Doesn’t account for CWAJ (that I’ve seen so far) while the current version of Cold Bore Desktop does and neither of them use the “Ballistic Coefficient” for the trajectory calculation

Some features are disabled by default while other are not and some users are turning stuff off that should be turned on.

Pay attention to these when you’re making your own comparisons.

Glad to see Trasol is back on it’s feet.

Hi guys, this is my first post, I live in the UK. The new version is looking really good. I’m still finding my way around the app but I can’t find anything that shows the distance that the bullet goes transonic. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no marker for it. You just have to look at the velocity column then come across to distance. About 1125 FPS (for Americans) 343 m/s for you I believe, in standard conditions.

The more I play with this, the more I'm really liking the simplicity of it. The user interface is really good.

I've fallen behind the times with modern gear. Is this a better (more accurate) app than Ballistic AE?
Thanks.

Most of us using AB and the Kestrel turn off the first wind to remove the CWAJ because it's wrong and messes with the solution

It's unnecessary,

“wrong” and “unnecessary” are “relative” to individual “criteria”

My “criteria” or “benchmark” is the Kestrel (or any solver for that matter) maintain it’s “proactive” solution. Because the Kestrel is a “Field” instrument. Meaning it’s has the capability of reading and adjusting the “solution” based on “real-time” input such as putting the Kestrel in a weather vane mount and live capturing to a tablet, “Smart-Phone” “Smart-Scope” or manually entered by hand in the “Field” Then CWAJ/DOF would need to be enabled/set accordingly to maintain this functionality.

I acknowledge that some individuals won’t employ the Kestrel in this fashion and that circumstances arise where an individual may “Choose” not to use the solution from the Kestrel because of time and opportunity constraints in the “Field” or may build and use printed cards for faster employment because it’s not always convenient to manually update the Kestrel

So long as the Kestrel was trued with “Clean” numbers (recorded data does not equal “Clean” by default) so that the “solution” presented by the Kestrel stays accurate when traveling to different locations. Then the individual can choose to build a printed data card without CWAJ in the solution and manually account for it as they see fit or not without it having a noticeable impact on performance.

So long as each individual understands the tradeoffs/benefits and is “Consciously” accepting the tradeoffs/benefits then the individual user has a “successful” outcome based on their own criteria.

1. Read the work by Gus and Jim the linear solutions are incorrect by default

2. Using the Kestrel clean is not right especially when traveling, I routinely do this and it always has to be tweaked on location. If this was not the case they would not rent Raton prior to the King of 2Mile in order to test and validate.

I am at 5000ft above sea level and always travel to locations

3. The struggles individuals have are real in lining up the data. TRASOL does a much better job out of the box. Very little tweaking required.

4. The Truing is clumsy and flawed on numerous levels. We do it differently and it not only works better it carries over more accurately. If you are changing true data like MV how are you clean ?

5. They stood up in front of a crowd and said it was wrong and suggestioned corrections

5. CWAJ happens at the muzzle we Zero it out. The downrange effect requires a lot more wind to become noticeable and I promise I Shoot in more wind than most. Again read Jim and Gus.

6. Truing the BC for your system is a better way, and the majority turn the wind off as practical application across a wide range of shooters has demonstrated the merit. You can argue success vs the blind faith on thing that are barely noticeable.

It’s 3DOF so explain your proactive approach vs CB or 4DOF? Faking it is not proactive hence the fact we find it to work as advertised with these features off.

3DOF has not idea what happened the instant before or after, there is no bullet, just a point in space. On the other hand CB and TRASOL know where the Bulliet was and where it is going hence the massive amount of code required.

7. I religiously run both a kestrel and CB/TRASOL solutions, I travel, compete, and see hundreds of students a year who obsess over this, I have a pretty good idea of what works why and how. I even upgraded my range to horizontal bar targets specifically for software.

Buzzwords and marketing aside, I promise when the winds are high enough both planes suffer and the shooter has to adapt because they are never straight and square, read: linear as this is the only way it can try to solve.

Where should we send bug reports? I just had some consistent crashes when trying to capture Station Pressure in the Density Altitude field.
