Sniper's Hide has paired up with Ashbury Precision Ordnance to offer a Sub $2k Precision Rifle.

Provisional Data Sheet SABER M700 ERT Snipers Hide Edition 2019.jpg

    Background:

I wanted a rifle I could recommend to students and followers that was a turnkey system. Over the years we would tell students to get the Ruger RPR, the Tikka T3x, etc, but we found ourselves upgrading them. They are great entry level rifles but when it was all said and done, most guys were ending up with $2400 variants due to the changes we'd recommend. This rifle has been spec'd to meet the need of the precision rifle shooter, from both a training and competition standpoint.

Why the Remington 700, because it's the Chevy 350 of rifle actions. Ashbury Precision Ordnance employs a team of former 2112 Armorers who take these barreled actions and clean them up, upgrade the trigger, and then test for accuracy. APO Rifles flat out shoot thanks to the attention to detail they put into the rifle. They have an upgrade path either from APO, or you can take them to your favorite gunsmith and the sky is the limit. Finally, I looked at it from a resale value, the APO Saber Chassis is modular, by pairing it with a Remington 700 you maintain your value over time.

SABER M700 ERT Snipers Hide Special Edition 5.jpg

Saber Chassis, it's a truly modular chassis system. The APO chassis allows the shooter to adjust the fit to them individually. In my mind, this promotes marksmanship because it's designed to adjust as well as grow with the shooter. We spec'd out the version of the chassis that meets the need of a turnkey system. We could have offered it in a variety of different ways, with numerous options. I get asked every day, "what do I buy" so I wanted to answer that question without you having to immediately upgrade the choice from what is offered to what is available. While APO continues to refine the options, you have the ability to keep up without needing a new system.

    Why Ashbury Precision Ordnance

The easiest answer is, because of their quality and my longstanding relationship with the company. Morris, Matthew, and Company are able to meet my needs in terms of accuracy, upgradeability, and modularity so the rifle is not obsolete in a years time. Their 2112 Armorers and Custom Shop can produce these rifles while making sure the Sniper's Hide Members buying can be supported at all levels. Customer Service and Support is every bit as important as the accuracy I demand. There is a long tradition of supporting the Marine Corps warfighters and that speaks volumes to me. Cap this all off with the ability to bring this rifle in under cost while still giving the end user all the best features.

The rifle was born out of the APO Saber M700 sold at Cabelas.

    The Price

Everyone talks about Precision Rifle as the fastest growing sport. This is not new, we have been for years now. Because of that, we have seen the prices go up, and then recently many companies jumped into this space by bringing the prices down. I wanted a viable option under $2000 that was a turnkey system. We made sure it hit every mark, from front to back. As well we wanted an upgrade path for those who enjoy a tiny bit more. Change the forend, change the buttstock, folding, fixed, modular, you can change it. The Base Sniper's Hide Edition Model Retails for $1950. We cut out the middle man, so you are not paying more than you have too.

SABER M700 ERT Snipers Hide Special Edition 2.jpg

    Trigger Tech Triggers

This was important to me, aside from completely going over the Remington Barreled action, I wanted, not just a good trigger, but a great trigger without having a $400 upgrade cost. Enter the Trigger Tech Triggers. Trigger Control is key, it's our point of human contact with a rifle. A good trigger goes a long, long way. The base rifle comes standard with a Trigger Tech Trigger installed.

    Turnkey Solutions

SABER M700 ERT Snipers Hide Special Edition 10.jpg

Simplicity is key, guys want a solution without having to hunt for upgrades. Just add your scope and you're in the game. Whether you are taking a class, shooting a match, or just enjoy shooting on the weekend to clear your head. It's a great looking rifle, sure to stand out on any public firing line. The accuracy standard will make you look good too with the old-timers at the public range. We picked the two most popular calibers, 308 and 6.5CM as the base system, but you can modify that to anything you like. At $1950 you are not overcommitting in cost. You can test the precision rifle waters without breaking the bank.

We have been discussing this on the Everyday Sniper Podcast, so if you want to hear more about this, check out the podcast.

As noted above, this can be ordered direct from Ashbury Precision Ordnance.

I wonder how much grief you will get for it being pictured with a Harris bipod?

Seriously though, nice looking rifle and the trigger tech is an essential upgrade/standard option.

just saw the video and came here to the post...im in the market and man this just vaulted itself high on my list. this site has been so helpful.

It's not a full blueprint, it's more of a cleanup, and then they air gauge the barrel, and after assembly test accuracy, most APO Barreled Actions will shoot sub 1/2 MOA with factory ammo. If the action needs a full blueprint because of the Remington spec they will not use it. Part of the QC is doing this work for you ahead of time. Remember this is a Sub $2k rifle with a chassis system that is over $1000.

Look at it as being Hand Selected vs getting what they give you. It has some work done to it, that helps, but it's not a full rework.

Each rifle will have a test target and moving forward we will offer different dope sheets so you can get shooting quickly.

So they are cleaning up the barrel threads and trueing the lugs ?

I'm assuming this is a factory Remington barrel as the action is listed as the 700 SPS AAC-SD? Which Triggertech model specifically is spec'd? There's some stiff competition at the $2K mark, the Hancock rifle and the MPA BA PMR, and they're both using custom actions...

This is marketed to a different crowd, it’s not a prs gun, it’s a training rifle that will cross over.

Not everyone follows the latest PRS tales, it’s a Remington barreled action, we stated that up front. It’s the “name you know” , honestly their crowd is much smaller than most folks realize and when you start chasing things down the rabbit hole you just confuse folks. This is a straight up, add a scope and drive on.

You can spec a custom barrel, add bolt handles, etc, there is even a new upgraded buttstock soon to be finished. We included options, but I am not getting into, why this over a Hancock or Bergera, etc, if you get it, you get it. If not, you have options.

Accuracy is not an issue, ask anyone who’s shot an APO, they know what they are doing.

Guys ask us which rifle to buy everyday. We’d recommend something like an RPR, then change the stock, hand guard, and trigger. Some change the barrels, here you don’t have to change anything unless you really want too.

I think this thing is a home run for guys in the market. I’m glad to see something marketed again as a training or a tactical rifle. The games have definitely evolved the practical (or unpractical) uses of the latest things. I don’t want PRS style matches to go anywhere, but I wish we’d draw a line in this industry like the pistol and carbine stuff has. The big names in IPSC, IDPA, and 3 Gun are not the big names on the “tactical” training side. There are gamer tendencies and products that stay on the gamer side because there might not be a real world application for it other than its fast. There’s been lines drawn, but there also might be a crossover product, position, or style that blends both. Long range practical shooting has 9 different meanings to 9 different people it feels like.

Sorry maybe not the place for the post and said way more than necessary to just say two thumbs up Frank and APO. I dig what’s happening here.

    The Stock is adjustable,

Guys you have to follow the links and watch the video. It helps to answer a lot of questions.

I included the images of the other APO rifles so you can see the directions you can go. The center section is standard and the ability to change either end is the defining factor here. They have hunting style, F Class, tactical, Uber Tactical, as well this works in Competition

Melissa Gilliland shot for APO before joining Team GAP, she used an APO with this stock for years

    melissa-gilliland-image.jpg

if you look at the Valkyrie stuff with Jim Gilliland, he is using an APO and that Shadow 6 rifle above is his.

It’s interesting that the AR grip tang is angled slightly backwards to provide a more vertical grip angle with standard AR grips. Looks like they’ve been doing that for a while. I noticed that the new AI-ASR has the same feature and that was the first time I had seen it.

    Guys,

Thanks for all inquiries for this rifle, the response has been awesome. One of the reasons to go with APO is the ability to handle large numbers. They supply places like Cabelas with rifles so servicing our community should be easy.

We are talking about a different dealer program and extending the opportunity to overseas. Several guys in Europe are asking and initially I did not consider them, but since we have the means and method, we are looking into that market too. The price will be slightly different, but still a great deal.

Contact APO in the meantime and look for more on this rifle as they get closer to release

    @samb300

The adjustability is a key element to this rifle, The SH rifle has both grip to trigger adjustment and changeable grip angles (11 degrees similar to TRG-42, M40, etc), 17.5 degrees (M1911 and BHP), 27 degrees (M4/AR-15)

APO has offered this for ever.

These are all options and/or things you can specify when ordering.

Damn nice looking rifle. These guys are located just a few miles from me and I bump into them fairly often. If the rifle and service is a good as they seem, its a winner.

Just talked with Mark at Ashbury and he invited me out next week when they get settled from Shot. Looks like Ill get to fondle one of the beauties. Nom Nom

actually shot her rifle with her at a meet and greet they run every spring for a few select previous customers.
    really nice lady.

i have a few of their chassis and a rifle built by them.

seriously accurate, you will not be disappointed.

plus they have a "custom shop" they is willing to work with you, had them make a few mags for a hunt etc

took longer than expected so i gave them a call, told me they were trying the mags every time they were shooting a rifle of the same caliber to ensure functionality.

only thing you have to do is slice the top rail at the fore arm/ action junction area

if you need to take apart your rifle for a full wipe down or clean youll have to unscrew the 3-4 screws that hold on the top rail.

not a big issue but extra work for no reason.

the chassis more than strong enough, doesnt need that extra rigidity

I want to buy one. Money is currently tied to other projects right now. This is going to be an ongoing thing and not a limited run correct?

    This thing looks awesome!

The folding stock is not standard correct?

Can we get an interview with the APO crew? You mentioned they have USMC ties...

Love me some APO. I toiled over the chassis when building mine and went with APO. Couldn’t be happier. A misunderstanding during ordering was made up for 10x over by the staff. I also ignored all of the action snobs that said never build on a 700 and that it can’t handle 300 Norma. I’ll vouch that a 700 in an APO chassis makes for a hell of a rifle.

The guys at APO do a fantastic job, this will be a fine addition to anyone's armory. I've got several APO rifles myself, been using their gear for years. The latest additions to the system (and it IS a chassis SYSTEM) allow for more flexibility in price point while maintaining the precision of the rifle. Multiple buttstock and fore end options, totally adjustable to fit the shooter let you pick and choose the right setup for you. Good job Frank!

i've had several of the Savage Ashburn Precision rifles and loved the chassis, it was also based off a Sabre. I have been selling out of my savage stuff over the past year (moving a lot of builds to origins, nucleuses, etc), well most of it keeping my target action builds and a few others, but kept a couple of the APO chassises in case I decide to do any savage builds in the future.

It is a huge deal to get all that in a tested rig for $2000, it's a great time to be a long range shooter that's for sure! Grip to tigger adjustment is huge, I struggle with it because I have stubby fingers on many platforms. Coming from a competition shotgun background I'm also surprised how little we see in rifles with fully adjustable butt plates, esp. cant, and so little discussion on good stock fit. I also really like that we are seeing a training rifle that can cross over into PRS, but not just a dedicated "game" gun. I love the lighter practical rigs, my stock LTR is still a fav and all my 17+ lb rigs are all gone.

As to the flood of $2000 PRS production options, part of me doesn't want to see rifle splinter into what handgun did with tons of divisions, but I'd love to see divisions that also use weight limits and lower cost limits, say sub 13lbs and even a lighter back to basics "hunter" division where you have to be under 9-10lbs, no chassis, maybe even a scope power limit. Partly because I'd love to see the effort being put into these $2000 "semi-custom" options be put into even lighter non-chassis hunting options. I personally feel like the production division has gone the wrong way by increasing the MSRP limits, or at least it's defeated the purpose. To us enthusiasts $4k might be chicken feed, but most new shooters are still not going to want to dump $4k to start on a rig, even if they have money. No matter how many people tell them any gun will be cheap compared to their ammo costs, it will be sticker shock. I see it in trap shooting all the time, guys show up in a $100k car/truck, then freak out when someone spent $2000 on a shotgun, they'd probably have a coronary if they knew what a Perazzi/K80 cost.

I fear we are going to see a bigger performance gap between a $3000 MSRP setup to a $4000 MSRP setup in production, than from a $4000 MSRP Production rig to Open. That's going to force the entry price to basically be $4000 in production for newbies, anyone that spends less is going to be at a huge performance handicap. Maybe they need a lower priced production division at $2500 MSRP combined which would also help keep big factory interest/innovation going. It would be a shame to lose all the innovation and improvement we've seen in the big factory brands the last few years that PRS has driven.

All that said, it's pretty hard not to be tempted by some of these offerings, the options shooters have now without spending $4k is nothing short of amazing compared to even 5 years ago.

Hello all, this is my first post here! I've been doing heavy research for buying my first rifle. I don't like hunting, and I really just want to shoot on the range and eventually hit steel at 1,000 plus yards. I have a lot of hobbies, so I don't want to get too crazy on how much I spend on the entire rifle. This rifle offering sounds fantastic, but I'm wondering what makes this one so much better than the version I could buy at Cabela's for only $999. Are those upgrades worth it for someone like me, or are they for more serious shooters who have a variety of needs?

That all depends on you and your particular needs. What you plan to do with it seems a little broad and a little vague. These upgrades compared to the standard are significant. This rifle has loads of potential, and to me a significantly better stock option than the Magpul CTR for a precision rifle, in my humble opinion. The attention to detail with these builds and the attetion to the actions themselves is another key point. Let’s not forget the Trigger Tech trigger night and day difference when compared to the X Mark Pro. Also comes equipped with the APO Muzzle Break. The standard is just a threaded with the addition of a thread protector. If having a folding stock appeals to you that is another bonus with the “Snipers Hide Edition”. It really boils down to what you want and need, and how you will utilize it at the end of the day. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply! My use really will be limited to just being on the gun range shooting 300 yards and working my way up to 1,000. From all of my reading, my mind has been changed from going with a .308 to a 6.5 creedmoor. I was under the impression that the Saber M700 had the folding stock as well, and if not, that would definitely be a nice upgrade. I've heard a lot of talk about the X Mark Pro trigger, and it does seem to be pretty unpopular among all of you pros. I think I've boiled it down to one of these 2 APO rifles, as they check off everything that I'm looking for (including a bit of vanity with the sweet chassis). Really just trying to determine if shelling out the extra $1k for the Sniper's Hide Version over the Saber M700 on sale is worth it for me specifically. From everyone's talking, it certainly appears to be a steal, and I have to admit Sniper's Gray sounds pretty badass

    Frank,
Do you think they will do one in 224 Valkyrie?

Thanks zero I missed it. I will look into getting one

Anyone else thing this is just a vehicle for APO to sell some of their chassis? If value was the #1 priority, the Bravo offers all of the same functionality at half of the price.
