Lets see your USMC M40-M40A6!!!

Hi! Rules are simple; please show us your issued and/or clone USMC M40, M401, M40A3, M40A5, or M40A6!!!

I'll start.

Here's an issued circa 2015 in Eastern Europe.View attachment 7024691

Here's my clone of the above that I finally was able to finish ~4 years later; C&H built, everything is correct except for the "RR" receiver, the bolt knob, and the non-8541 marked optic.

Edited to add: I finally figured out how to post pictures..

I love clone threads that start out, “everything is clone correct except ___, ___, ____”

Having the correct optic is probably the most important part. Try that stuff over on AR15.com and you will get destroyed. Not too many Vortex RDS on M4A1 SOPMOD Block 2 clone builds.

LMAO if you wanna get technical none of those B2s or CQBRs or Mk12s or Mk18s are correct due to the fact that they're not on the right lower receiver. We can go technical all day but at the end of the day I can give a few minor details a pass. But that's just me; you do you bro.

I actually see most M4 clones on Colt lower receivers....but i digress

Don't sweat it bro. Some people just want to see the world burn.

You have the correct scope? Sweet!
You have the correct stock? Nice!
You have the correct trigger? Post it up!

The niche is too small to gaf.

This post worthless without pics so Ill post my all time favorite (not mine)

Agreed...but there has to be a baseline or line in the sand, or we go off the rails down a rabbit hole. A clone is a clone, i get it. We can’t get our hands on gov issued Colt lowers, but if we do have access to things like colt barrels M4 profiled, matech/kac buis, and Surefire 4 prong flash hiders, and 99% of the optics used ITW, then those need to be used. His Colt FA Gov lower argument is flawed, because he knows dam well those aren’t available to anyone. I see the Colt lower argument card pulled, when people make excuses when getting called out for not being correct.

At least I see 100% correct optics....but you do you bro
Let me ask you this then. Do you see "SU231A" marked optics (no not the ones engraved by Carolina Laser; I'm talking about real ones) on the B2 and CQBR in those clone thread?

If not, my non-M8541 marked Schmidts are 100% correct as well according to your words :)

And if you care that much about 100% correct optics yes I have a couple Gen 2 and Gen 3 SU230s on my B2s and CQBRs. I'm just not insane yet to spend $7k plus on a M8541 marked Schmidt.

I know this is an M40 thread but Ive come to see it as a Marine rifle thread.

Perhaps the OP will forgive me going off topic.

When I think of "Old Breed" I think of a Marine in a campaign cover with the brim formed at a cocky angle, canvas leggings and the Springfield '03.

This is Gungnir......I leave the name up to you to research.....

nothung.jpg

This rifle is "Old Breed"....

nothung1A.jpg

nothung1B.jpg

A SRS search of the serial indicates close SN issued to an AK supply ship USS Betelgeuse that saw action at Guadalcanal as well as Anzio. Doesnt mean anything but could explain why the rifle is in such good shape.

Proper 1903 accessories....

nothung2.jpg

The only way to adjust elevation to the 1/2 MOA repeatedly is with an O'Hare or this clone. Adjusting up from 26.5 to 27 moa....

nothung3.jpg

First 10 shots 168 Nos CC, 46.6 Varget, KA 73 brass 4X (one anneal)....

nothungfirst10.jpg

Last 10 shots on a 600 yard reduced at 100 yards....

nothungslowfire.jpg

I scored it 94/100, 2X. Ill take that with my eyes and having not fired Gungnir since 7/4/2018. The 8 ruins it but that was an early one trying to determine if I had to bury or leave a line of white. This black is smaller than the 8 inch S&C.

This rifle, or its twin Nothung, I would hope to have in my hands if I ever knew it was the final act and the hordes were coming over the wire.

I would sling up tourniquet tight and take what came my way.

Every Marine needs to own an '03.

That is the config the USMC preferred - straight stock/grasping grooves.

@cplnorton has researched and the pistol grip "C" stock mine sports was resisted by the USMC to the point they traded the Army for straights.

Just like today the Army was willing to take anything "bent".

That 16 inch bayo is icing on the cake.

Ive fired straight stocks as well watched a co worker give himself a big fat lip over the course of a day shooting his straight rifle.

There is no denying the "Old Breed" were better men than me.

I have another rifle that has all the characteristics of a usmc rifle, it has a scant stock. My brother has every manufacturer of m1905/m1942 bayonets. It’s a hell of a collection.

I need to get a 16 inch with canvas covered scabbard for each '03 and a cut down for my Garand....someday.

Still working my 175 load this time at 300 yards...

Too much spread at 2.83 COAL...

518194.jpg

2.825 COAL is better. A scope adjustment puts 7 in the three inch circle. The other three will require I try a 2.82 even string of fire to compare......

I see you leave yourself little love notes also pmclaine lol.

On shot 9 I wasnt seeing many holes in the white area of the paper so I was thinking "man if I can just keep these last two in the black......."

I suck.

We can shoot steel. Some limitations on placement but you can shoot steel out to 1000. all our ranges have the ability to shoot steel.
I am the club secretary, come on out introduce yourself and join. We have plenty of slots.

I'm a member also. There's no restriction on where you live to be a member. We also shoot a variety of targets at 1,000 including steel, known distance targets, clays on the berm, etc. We try to shoot 600/800 on Saturdays and 1,000 on Sundays, but it could be 1,000 on both days depending on what the R4 regulars want to shoot.

Drop me a IM if you have questions. I can also sponsor you as a guest for a day if you want to give us a test drive. It's $10, but well spent considering.

Just to stay on track, some from the herd:

But you sure do look cool doing it...and that's what its all about ?.

Seriously sucking or not its always a fun day shooting a m40 version.

There seems to be a bunch of us in the VA/NC area. Would be cool if we could work out a Clone shoot day. Or get in a local match and all squad together.

Sir are you talking about the range at Quantico!?

Sir are you talking about the range at Quantico!?

Yup. The Quantico Shooting Club is allowed use of the Calvin Lloyd complex on weekends when Marines are training on any of the other 50 or so ranges across the 54,000 acres that are the Q ranges. I shoot long range on R4 and mentor the new folks who come out to experience long distances. Granted, it's square range known distances, but it's all we have right now. :)

They post the calendars here: QSC Calendar. The calendar usually isn't finalized until Thursday, but we try and shoot 600/800 on a Saturday and 1,000 on a Sunday, or what the R4 regulars prefer. Drop me a note if you have questions. I have a guest coming out this Sunday, which should be a 1,000y day.

How many coats will you use and how long do you let it dry before a light buff and recoat?

The standard maxim is "Apply once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year, and once a year for the rest of your life"

Ill just hand lay it on and burnish it it with flesh on wood.

When it looks like I want it will be done.

Arrives on Tuesday and the hand oiling will begin.........

If I knew that was at Mark's I would have visited before he shipped it out lol. Giving me a serious hankering for building a straight M40.

Any particular reason you went 223? Guessing just to change it up a bit?

Looking forward to seeing a scope mounted on it...beautiful rifle.

I have one of the MaWhinney over run .308s Badger Ord sold a few years back.

Figured .223 would be fun and I could introduce the kids to centerfire with something less intimidating when that time comes.
