Next Friday is an anniversary I've sort of spent a long time avoiding.

IIt's the anniversary of me getting blown up by a 300lb IED. It fucked me up physically for a long time but I'm still here being an asshole and pissing off as many people as I can on a daily basis. My heart stopped twice in surgery the longest being 3.24 seconds according to my medical records.

" Pops" was killed outright. He never felt a thing. I miss him daily.

Here is to being an asshole.

RIP " Pops".

That’s a tough one man. You’re still here for a reason. Find that reason and live your life in honor of those who can’t be here. Thank you for sharing your story.

I know it’s not very asshole of me in my response, but these types of stories bury that crap. Don’t worry though. I can always be an asshole someplace else! ??

Hey, I haven an idea of how you feel, my situation is different but I get it. Hang in there, do it up the good days and chill on the bad days. Take it easy, you hang in there, and know your brothers are always here to lend a hand or a kind word or whatever is needed. We do best when we take care of ourselves and each other.

The reality for us is that we only have each other to lean on.

They don't give a shit about us until they come crying asking us to stop the bad people.

Fuck them.

Thank you my brothers.

Edward156, sorry for your loss.

At the Post I belong to, we have a special ceremony we do on a anniversary like this. The fallen name, rank, and info are brought to everyone present at the post. The post Commander, and the person representing his memory, have a drink out of a very nice bottle of scotch, while everyone else is silent and a bell rings 21 times.
If you PM me "Pops" info, I will be proud to do this for him.

My first time I got blown up was a suicide vbied. 1500lbs of explosives. They hit our convoy in Kabul, killed 13 on the bus we were escorting at the time, soldiers and civilians. That was 29 OCT 2011. The last time I got blown up was my wedding anniversary on 7 Apr 2012 outside the gates of ghazni, just south of COP Carlisle. Getting blown up sucks. I try to figure out why I'm still here and my friends arent, because they were way better men than I.

I had physical therapy on the 16th and the physio was working his magic. He said he remains quite surprised at the little amount vets complain about.

But hey I'm back as a Fed, making bad people's lives a fucking misery ?

I lost Eric Williams on my wife's birthday of that same deployment. We had went through basic training, AIT, Iraq together. He then became a flight medic. He had deployed 3 months before I did to afghanistan. He was my medevac during my tour there. He was killed by a rocket 6 days before he was supposed to go home. I still can't figure out why. I drank myself stupid for 4 years trying to figure it out. I'm finally not an alcoholic anymore. I'm still in the army and just finished getting my BSN degree. I'm leaving the army after 14 years of service. I just can't bring myself to deploy anymore.
