Tikka T1X

Took my daughter to the range on Sunday for Father's Day. She loved the T1x and had no issues shooting it straight. I went again on Wednesday to try out different ammo. I'll post up those targets once I take pictures. SK target was the best out of the lot.

I'm at approx. 600+ rounds now. No FTF or FTE. Ejection is normal. I did have a couple times where the trigger wasn't cocked when operating the bolt. I had read here w/ some others having a similar issue and the trigger spring too light. I backed my out just a tad more and had no failure to cock on the last range trip or the first. Just the second where the trigger spring was almost maxed out.

You all are on to something with this Tikka. I just picked one up 3 days ago, ordered a dip 25 moa rail that came in like a day, and hit my range yesterday. Man, it's a sweet shooting rifle. From the variety of match ammo, I'm getting great results at .5" or under. Even Blazer is shooting well.
I can't wait to put it in a KRG Bravo or Oryx chassis. I can run the same inlet as the T3 or T3x right? I see they specifically make a T1X inlet..?

If a company makes the T1x inlet for a chassis/stock you like and they have it in stock save yourself the headache and get it. The T3 can be made to work, but most will like require some work on your end to work properly.

You are correct, I been saying saying this for 6 months.

Yep... I waited looking for a better deal, and bam out of stock. Wait another 6 months.

The T1X went in stock from KRG and they're out of stock again. It's going to take them months to fill another batch of orders on them. If you find one anywhere online, I'd highly suggest picking one up if the Bravo suits your needs.

I just put on the wiebad mini stock pad on mine. Just need the swept back bolt handle and I should be done.

FOR NRL22, I bought the mini fortune cookie and I need to find a better sling...

I based buying my T1x on the availability of the Bravo. Once the Bravo came in stock and I ordered it, I then began to order everything else, including the rifle. I got lucky and built it in just over 1 week.

Moving from the Ares BTR 2.5-15 into the BTR 4.5-27. Would like to see more at distance and the floating dot floats my boat.

Anyone looking for a 2.5-15? ?

And...

I signed up this morning for my first precision .22 rimfire match.

I did the same thing! Once KRG notified me the T1X was back in stock, I ordered it and started finding a T1X which also came in stock at the local stores around the same week. (Cabela's started stocking them) The BTR 4.5-27 is fantastic...

In Boulder, CO of all places. ?

I did my first last month! It's addicting and I'm looking forward to it again. They have them once a month. I finished second to last on my first comp using my 10/22 based rifle. I had a simple 3-10x scope w/ no parallax adjustment and it couldn't focus that well @ 25 yds. Also I had never practiced positional shooting, so I missed half of my standing/kneeling shots... I've been youtubing about using a sling to help with positional shooting, now I need to get one of those arm cuff PRS slings.

So I skipped the whole picitinny mount and went with a one piece AI. Price is close to the cost of a mount and rings. Only down side is the Cronus is long in the rear meaning I needed to move the mount a little forward for good eye relief.

New Night Stalker photos. This is how it sits now. The monopod is pretty effective for either bench or prone shooting. I have a few extra rails so I decided to put one on the lower forearm section. I then installed some left over LaRue rail covers I had. Works out pretty good. It's there if needed, if not it's not hurting anything. Items that wasn't being used are at least on a rifle now. The KRG supplied rail worked perfect for the monopod.

What are you using for the mag holder on the side?

Shot a match today. Used the T1X for the first time. I have put about 600 rounds through it before the match with a few issues of FTF and FTE. So, at the match today and on 1 single stage I had 4 FTF malfunctions out of 4 different mags. Luckily I kept my composure and was able to finish the stage. But damn I was pissed. These mags must suck. Anyone else having consistent issue with mags feeding properly? Stages we shot are in the pic below.

Sure thing. Every one of them, the nose of the round tipped up and tried to feed above the chamber. It would be mid mag as well and not just the first or last round.

Dang, that's the first I heard of that kind of FTF. I had some on my first Tikka, well not really FTF but bullet shaving. I traced it to a bad mag which was quickly replaced by Beretta free of charge. Not sure on that one as the mags should all be the same as far as injection molded mags go. I'll post a photo of a bad mag. The spring is so weak it won't hold the round in place.

As for the FTE, I guess that's an ejection issue? If so I had that problem too on my Tikka #2 22lr. See the photos above for what I did and it has worked 100% after that. Just call me lucky I guess. My FTE rate before the bent ejector was probably 30% at least, yeah 3 out of 10.

The magazine on the far right has the weak spring. Notice how it doesn't even hold up the round. Not saying or insinuating this is your issue because your FTF is not the same as I had but it's still something to look for.

Yeah some of my mags have looked like the one on the far right. I need to get back to the range to verify which ones are the issue.

Good thing didn’t hinder my score as I was shooting against a few 455’s and 3 Vudoo’s

I have the same mis feeds on my rifle I just picked up, as poke. It doesn't happen often since I'm taking my time loading them on my range but I notice if I load fast, they tend to angle up and hit the top of the chamber. It then deforms the tip slightly if you muscle it through.

I'm calling Tikka on Monday to see if they have a fix.

How did you place in the competition?

I placed 1st with 455 point and second place was a Vudoo with 445 points which is one of my good buddies. The match director asked my buddy if he was pissed that be got beat by a $450 rifle. ?
Nothing better than beating a bunch of voodoos with the tikka!

Tried a bunch of rounds today.
@cannoncrossfire

Just need that swept handle now.

Congrats on placing first! I get to go play in NRL22 in 3 weeks which will be fun! Anything you want to change up on your current setup? I have the stock 2lb trigger still, considering switching to maybe something lighter. My Summit rifle is like 1-1.5lbs it feels drastically lighter. Maybe just the $10 yodave spring I should just do.

Practiced barricades today and the ergos were just fantastic with the Bravo. One thing is I have the Athlon Ares BTR on it, and I have an Athlon Ares ETR on my .308. I really like the floating dot reticle more than the + reticle on the BTR. It looks like the Midas Tac has a floating dot reticle as well.

Did you run SK Rifle Match? I tested out a few sets of ammo today... have done about 200 rounds of SK Standard Plus which I'm avging around 1.3 moa @ 100 yards. I tried out Rifle Match, and maybe the lot I have isn't very good, but it wasn't sooting well.

I then tried Lapua Biathlon, which I think is similar to center-x, and I also had a box of eley match, which also was the most expensive. Eley Match shot really well out of the rifle.

So far for the price, it looks like SK Standard Plus... might go up to center-x if I really cared.

@littlepod

The only thing I will change on my rig is adding the Sterk handle once I get it. I’ve got mine torqued into the Bravo per KRG spec which is 65 in lbs I believe.

I’m shooting SK Standard and luckily this rifle likes the same lot number I already have for my 455. This rifle shoots this lot better than my 455 does.

I did add a lighter trigger spring to get the weight down some. It’s a very crisp 1lb or so. Not sure exactly what the weight is though.

I keep hearing safety concerns about having a trigger @ 1lb? Is there some sort of safety issues I should watch out for? It looks like I can pick up 2 yodave springs for my T3X and the T1X.

Was it hard getting the trigger screw out? Someone said it might be loctited and took quite a bit? What torque did you re-install it at?

Thanks for the help!

Anything less than 1lb is when things can get hairy if you drop the rifle... but after shooting an 8oz trigger, I understand why the bench rest guys go even lighter. Simple solution is don't have a round chambered if you aren't on the line behind the rifle and you will be fine.

Same as mentioned above. Be safe with it and do all you can to trigger a slam fire, bang your rifle around and so forth to try to get it to go bang when not expecting it to. I did this several times until I got it adjusted to where it is safe.

The trigger screw was a bit of a bitch to get out. It was torqued and had loctite but came out without heat. I didn’t torque it when reinstalling it, I just put some blue loctite on it and out a good amount of twist to it. I’ve done the same thing with my T3 in the past bc I had the trigger screw work out on me during a F class match before. I always blue loctite em now.

I’ve got about 200rds fired after the new spring install.

If you are trying to determine which mag is bad, just number the mags with paint and a toothpick. Keeps from mixing them up and having to repeat the test.

Good luck littlepod, we will be pulling for you.

With a too light trigger the round can go off when closing the bolt. I had that happen to me early on. I ran the screw in a 1/4 turn and fixed it.

Thanks for the tip. I'll fiddle with it. I know when I backed out the screw too much, the trigger wouldn't reset properly, so I had to tighten it up a little bit. My T3X trigger is definitely lighter. I just bought a trigger pull measurer so I can realistically gauge the trigger pull. If I could get the trigger pull to the same as my T3X stock trigger I could live with it, but it feels like my T1X is sitting around 2.5lbs, and the T3X is around 2.

I wish someone would make an after market ejection spring ! ?
Yes!!!!

I bent mine like others, a little too much, and it definitely ejects better. Unfortunately I got a little over-zealous and bent it a little too far and not it interferes with feeding?. After 100 rounds it seemed to smooth out and still eject fine.

I got my T1X out for the first time yesterday and ran 100 rounds of CCI Suppressor through it. No FTFs and no FTEs. I was surprised at how softly it ejected the spent casings though. My RAR flings them about 3x as far.

I have 3 more mags in the mail and various types of ammo (SK, Wolf, Lapua, etc) to test next week.

Oryx chassis, Harris SBRM w/ RRS Clamp, Athlon Ares BTR 4.5-27 in some cheapo rings, Form 1 can. Swapped the grip out for an Anarchy Outdoors penguin, but not sure if it'll stay or not.

Waiting on Area419 30 MOA base, Sterk swept bolt handle, Sterk bolt shroud, and yodave spring.
