For sure. The levee broke the next day after Katrina. Thats when the real fun began.
While those will work just be aware that if your engine is turning 3600RPM most small sets (an some big) require a timing change. Depending the combustion chamber design an prime mover (engine) load the HP lost can be substantial, an majorly changing the cooling requirements. Most 1800 RPM engines do not have this issue unless your looking for that few percent of HP, but many 3600rpms are much different ,again depending CC design.
Just an FYI if your engine (3600rpm) was designed for both fuels look in the owners Manuel as most will have a wire to either hookup or unhook. That wire will change the timing to the proper setting w/o using having to use offset keys, or changing the flywheel magnets location.

Did EPG recovery for both, not a fun day that I remember, at either. Got to see some real stupid shit from the public, as well as some so called EPG engineers an engineering teams, though.
edit to add, when Katerina hit it was a flat out NO, but would be at the end of the sat phone. Made life easy with that one. Sipping something cold while looking over prints an relaying where to check next, was tough but someone had to do it,...LOL

I have plenty of fuel to run my little generator. I'll run it for a couple hours at a time to let the fridge and freezer stay cold.

Sounds like an opportunity for incredible fun with flare guns and ultrabright flares at nighttime. Flare light in heavy rain causes water droplets all around the burning projectile to glow like CRT monitors, or prisms. Used to do that as a kid during the monsoons in Shanghai. Very beautiful displays.

All of the areas surrounding the bay now have signs that show the storm surge level. It's humbling to think how powerful Mother Nature is.

I think that we’ll all be fine. As long as you don’t live in the storm surge zone and live in a solid block home, all is good. Assuming that there’s not a beautiful old ancient oak outside your place that can cut your home in half when it falls, that is.
Heh, heh... thankfully, no. Just a common occurrence in older areas down here. The old oaks are awesome and plentiful. A soaker storm will loosen up the soil and then the high winds will coax the tree over onto some old homestead or fancy redone turn of the century home. A ten thousand pound oak will cut your home in half easily. It can cut into your beer money fixing it up.
Funny you mention jiggerwhats in jacksonville. I am sitting here in the power house making exactly those right now
4 blocks over from me caught fire about 2 weeks after Katrina. No fire department (or people) and no water pressure for hyrdrants even if there was. I took a drink and went and sat and watched a whole city block burn down all by myself. It was bizarre. Cant tell you how strange it is to be in a city with no society with an event that big. Part of me felt like I should light a stogie off it, but everything was so moldy or soaked in toxic flood water I decided not to. I went around my neighborhood and shut everyones gas and circuit breakers after that though. Rescued some cats from abandoned houses while I was at it. One woman was so grateful she gave me her dead husbands RG revolver when she came back. Talk about a Saturday night special. Think I had to unscrew parts to reload it. I was shit scared it would blow my fingers off the only time I ever shot it. Made a good flower pot gun though. As in- kept it in a potted plant by the front door so if I got jumped opening the door there was something in reach. Was a pretty rough neighborhood in those days.

No idea your layout but used to keep an ax in the attic as I didnt have a chainsaw. At least get out up top if the flood is bad enough. Fun times.

That said, NHC is the only one authorized to forecast hurricanes.
Now, anyone who tells you they have a good idea of storm path more than 3 days out is probably full of bs. The best product to look at is what is called a spaghetti model. It plots all the different computer guesses as to storm path on one map.
Right now there seems to be broad consensus that it will track right up the East FL coast. That is really the best case scenario too aside from it not touching anything at all. What we want to watch for is if it hops over the center of FL and jogs west a bit and hits that warm gulf water. That will give it a direct hit on S FL and a chance to regain steam and hit the gulf coast. At that point anyone in the FL panhandle, AL, and maybe MS needs to be ready to move out.
If you think you are going to be in the storm’s path, make preparations now. 2 days out is your decision point. As in, get in the car and start driving at the 48 hr mark at the latest. Any later and logistics and routes get CRAZY. Any later than that and you might be better off staying. Make your decision and then ride your choice out. Best of luck.
