NE Florida ALERT: Make hurricane preparations ASAP.

I lived in NOLA during Ivan and skipped the mandatory evacuation like always. They said it would be a Cat 5 city killer like they always do. I roamed the city plenty and really didnt see other people. Empty city felt like the apocalypse but ended up only Cat 1 or 2 strength there. Spent my time lighting off bottle rockets with a kitchen torch seeing how far across town I could zing them in those high winds. Tons of fun.

Only worth taking these things serious when they get to Cat 3. Katrina wasnt fun.
not to change subject but manhatten was the same way after 9/11
for the next 2 months the emptiness was weird

not suree if i caught it all but if you have orifices for NG you need to change them for Propane
unless you have a conversion on the unit

I would just change the orifice or use a propane snorkel.
While those will work just be aware that if your engine is turning 3600RPM most small sets (an some big) require a timing change. Depending the combustion chamber design an prime mover (engine) load the HP lost can be substantial, an majorly changing the cooling requirements. Most 1800 RPM engines do not have this issue unless your looking for that few percent of HP, but many 3600rpms are much different ,again depending CC design.

Just an FYI if your engine (3600rpm) was designed for both fuels look in the owners Manuel as most will have a wire to either hookup or unhook. That wire will change the timing to the proper setting w/o using having to use offset keys, or changing the flywheel magnets location.

"Oceanic heat content will be above 50 kilojoules per square centimeter along much of Dorian’s path for the next several days, and above 75 kJ/sq cm from late Wednesday into Thursday. Values above 75 kJ/sq cm are closely associated with higher odds of rapid intensification."

Alright "Doc Brown", you're just making shit up now.....killerjewels......pfft.
You might as well be telling the average American moron, that the hurricane needs 1.2 jiggerwhats to achieve time travel by knocking Jacksonville into last week.

Anyone else remember Andrew? Or Hugo?
Did EPG recovery for both, not a fun day that I remember, at either. Got to see some real stupid shit from the public, as well as some so called EPG engineers an engineering teams, though.
edit to add, when Katerina hit it was a flat out NO, but would be at the end of the sat phone. Made life easy with that one. Sipping something cold while looking over prints an relaying where to check next, was tough but someone had to do it,...LOL

Looks like it’s inching its way closer to me. Yeah this definitely is going to be interesting.

People already lining up for gas and water. By the time the storm hits they will have used up their gas. But at least folks are starting to prep earlier than usual.

If it slows like they say it will, it’s gonna get real moist.

That's 60 hours over land in Florida.

Man the life boats

Well dang. Watch out guys. Could suck if those “killer jewels” do their thing.

I still dont get the lack of preparedness.

Of course I don't get why all people in this country don't love the COTUS, have a safe full of guns, and a shelf full of ammo. Or two shelves.

Why the fuck do people hoard one of the foods that's most perishable in a high humidity environment when they're about to lose refrigeration and air conditioning?

Just. Fucking. Retarded.

Which food are you talking about?

Crackers, bread, Doritos or Lays tater chips?

Our closest station is also out of fuel. Like Mike said, they'll get a delivery overnight so no big deal. We need to drop the boys off in the morning, so we'll top it off then.

Diesel is still available. :)

Yep. Space Coast here. Gon' rain. Paradise don't come cheap or easy I guess. As long as we got enough Natty Ice we can strange brew it thru the flooding. If it looks like high end 4 or 5 we are dee deeing to Clarksville TN, too many little toeheads in tow to risk it..They should have something there for me to fix at the base to keep me busy. If it's a 3 and takes a dip south at landfall, probably hang around.

Sounds like an opportunity for incredible fun with flare guns and ultrabright flares at nighttime. Flare light in heavy rain causes water droplets all around the burning projectile to glow like CRT monitors, or prisms. Used to do that as a kid during the monsoons in Shanghai. Very beautiful displays.

Let it come, I'm one of the few that is prepared, and sits back and laughs at the rest of the idiots that are scramblin for gas, water, and food.

My boat is 1/2 full and sitting in the garage if I have to have extra fuel. I'll fill the cans because it will eventually get used on the lawn equipment or the pressure washer.
Chainsaw is ready too.
Last year I had a 1/2" diameter, 3' long stick after the hurricane passed by.
I'm hoping for less cleanup. :)

The cheap stations here have lines, a nickle more no wait. They will spend five in gas waiting to save a buck at the pump. :)

If stays on current track It will get windy and wet. I would not want to get "been in the eye" club membership on this one.

Long ago I walked across Tampa Bay save the ship channel an never for my ankles wet. Depending how that thing walks across the state some of you might get to do that this time.
Don't remember the storm name but it sucked all the water out right at low tide. I'd hate to see it be just the opposite, do to all the shit lining the bay.

All of the areas surrounding the bay now have signs that show the storm surge level. It's humbling to think how powerful Mother Nature is.

My sister/BIL/parents did the death march to Atlanta two years ago. I just talked to my dad (in Homestead) he said "fuck that shit, never again"

Probably. I wasn't fully awake then or now.
Long damned day. Moving a car dealership takes a little out of me. Good money, but I'm dammed tired.
I'll check on the storm again in the am. Got a son in Winter Park.
I think that we’ll all be fine. As long as you don’t live in the storm surge zone and live in a solid block home, all is good. Assuming that there’s not a beautiful old ancient oak outside your place that can cut your home in half when it falls, that is.

That's very descriptive.....a friend?
Heh, heh... thankfully, no. Just a common occurrence in older areas down here. The old oaks are awesome and plentiful. A soaker storm will loosen up the soil and then the high winds will coax the tree over onto some old homestead or fancy redone turn of the century home. A ten thousand pound oak will cut your home in half easily. It can cut into your beer money fixing it up.

Funny you mention jiggerwhats in jacksonville. I am sitting here in the power house making exactly those right now

4 blocks over from me caught fire about 2 weeks after Katrina. No fire department (or people) and no water pressure for hyrdrants even if there was. I took a drink and went and sat and watched a whole city block burn down all by myself. It was bizarre. Cant tell you how strange it is to be in a city with no society with an event that big. Part of me felt like I should light a stogie off it, but everything was so moldy or soaked in toxic flood water I decided not to. I went around my neighborhood and shut everyones gas and circuit breakers after that though. Rescued some cats from abandoned houses while I was at it. One woman was so grateful she gave me her dead husbands RG revolver when she came back. Talk about a Saturday night special. Think I had to unscrew parts to reload it. I was shit scared it would blow my fingers off the only time I ever shot it. Made a good flower pot gun though. As in- kept it in a potted plant by the front door so if I got jumped opening the door there was something in reach. Was a pretty rough neighborhood in those days.

The range master had a good joke about that pistol- How do you lube a firearm? Oil of course. How do you lube an RG? Ripple!

No idea your layout but used to keep an ax in the attic as I didnt have a chainsaw. At least get out up top if the flood is bad enough. Fun times.

I used to be a professional weather guy, and no, not the type on tv.
That said, NHC is the only one authorized to forecast hurricanes.

Now, anyone who tells you they have a good idea of storm path more than 3 days out is probably full of bs. The best product to look at is what is called a spaghetti model. It plots all the different computer guesses as to storm path on one map.

Right now there seems to be broad consensus that it will track right up the East FL coast. That is really the best case scenario too aside from it not touching anything at all. What we want to watch for is if it hops over the center of FL and jogs west a bit and hits that warm gulf water. That will give it a direct hit on S FL and a chance to regain steam and hit the gulf coast. At that point anyone in the FL panhandle, AL, and maybe MS needs to be ready to move out.

If you think you are going to be in the storm’s path, make preparations now. 2 days out is your decision point. As in, get in the car and start driving at the 48 hr mark at the latest. Any later and logistics and routes get CRAZY. Any later than that and you might be better off staying. Make your decision and then ride your choice out. Best of luck.
