Ashbury Precision Ordnance Sniper's Hide Edition Rifle

So I'm new here, forgive me please!

I have been reading this thread all day and it forced me to make an account to seek more information.

How do those of you who have handled this system like it?

For 2k, would it be a good bet to purchase this over others? No, I am not poking the bear here.... just asking for
honest 100% real feedback. Being in the Army.. 2k is a lot, but to me this seems worth it! Please enlighten me thy holy ones!

I'm new here as well-joined when this rifle was announced!

Took mine in 6.5 creedmore out for the first time on Monday and I love it.

Fit and finish is top notch.

The stocks hinge feels rock solid.

It fed and ejected 60 rounds of match ammo without issue.

The trigger tech trigger is sweet.

It was grouping for me well under MOA.

The comp worked great and isn't horrible for shooters nearby.

Its a pussycat with recoil.

There is a solid quality feel to the rifle.

And it looks great.

Can't wait to go out again after adjusting the stock and selecting a scope/rings/bipod/rear bag and stretch this rifles legs.

So long story short-Im stoked.

So I finally got to my FFL to pick up my rifle, to say I'm impressed would be an understatement. @Lowlight and @MADMATZ you have put together a beautiful rifle!!!!!

Let's start with the fact that I couldn't get out of the store without three different guys coming over to inspect and marvel at the work. I had to get out my phone twice to show one guy where it came from and how to go about getting it. (I'll expect my referral in ammo!) Even the store employee couldn't stop talking about how they couldn't believe it when they opened the box (this isn't my regular guy) he was blown away with the price. They thought it was a $5000 or better rifle when we were talking and said it was one of the most expensive rifle they had ever had. He almost fainted when I told him it was just over $2000 and that was with options.

Now let's talk about the rifle itself. The fit and finish from my quick inspection at the counter was flawless. The Bazooka Green is SOOOO HOTTT I cannot wait to see it with my scope and Atlas on it. Not only is the rifle itself just awesome I was impressed that you included all the base option equipment in with it after my options were installed. Should I ever wish to try it the other way I can just open the box and switch them out. I didn't expect that and was surprised when I saw it.

Now what I'm not happy about!!! What in the holy hell is up with the test target??? I'm on my phone and left my laptop at work so I'll post the pictures tomorrow but when I say one ragged hole I'm not joking. I don't think I could fit a nickel through the hole. How in God's name am I supposed follow that up????? Couldn't you of sent something a little bigger? I'm gonna be chasing that group for the rest of my life. I think the follow up picture to Lowlights 4 shot group by MADMATZ is my test target. I can't zoom in on my phone so I'm not sure but holy hell this thing is small. To be clear I did not order any of the accuracy packages. If it shoots this well without them what can you do with them?????

I'm going to be spending a lot of time with this rifle over the next few days. I'll post up pictures of it as I add my accessories. Once I get it out I'll probably have a lot more to say, hopefully I don't embarrass myself. I have a lot to live up too. I'm taking the MH class this summer and am hoping @Lowlight and Mike can make me shoot half as well as this rifle can.

Once again Snipershide has blown me away. Bravo

Wait till you get it to the range!

I've never had so many people come up to ask about a rifle.

Those rifles look killer!

That chassis looks even more slick with their new skeletonized buttstock.

The new skeletonized buttstock wow i guess the cats out of the bag.. Haha It's almost ready for prime time and we have it going through more field testing, very sucessfully i might add. Here is the link to the thread from CoryT @Gunsite https://www.snipershide.com/shootin...-new-butt-stock-comming.6940787/#post-7738802 that has been testing out the new buttstock on the ASW338 and ASW375CT rifles. Lowlight will also be doing some testing before the final goes into production. We expect to have first production parts mid September! Will keep you guys posted and please follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

So I got to the range today and set up the APO. Let me begin with saying this rifle does not disappoint!!!! The Folder as stated before locks up solid no movement or play. The trigger breaks cleanly and predictably no creep at all, just a crisp break. I did a lot of adjustments today, as Frank would say setting up my car to my liking, I had it close at home but needed some tweaks at the range. I may still have to purchase a new Spuhr mount as I need about 1/4" more movement backwards to get the eye relief perfect in the prone.

So as promised here are some pictures of my set up. I included the out of the box and the included test target. The rifle as I set it up at home. Close up of the KRG bolt knob, I seriously love them have a few now!! I installed a Seekins 13 slot rail. This needs some modifications to install so beware before you buy one. It does not line up with the sling stud. I had to grind off the last M lok tabs and then drill/tap my hand guard for the final screw. I love how it came out and its rock solid. The last picture are the first 2 groups after initial zero. The top one is the first group I shot at all, the bottom is the second and more my style!!! Over all I shot several groups from the bench and prone and none of them were larger than the second or smaller than the first. This rifle will out shoot me for sure, for now;)

I was able to get some good data on it today and take it out to 600, that's the farthest our range goes. I was quite supprised how slow the speeds I was getting were. I was shooting Hornady 140 eld-m factory at an average of 2623, which I thought was pretty slow. My Jp is over 2700, I'm hoping to pick up some speed as the barrel breaks in. What are you guys getting speed wise?

Be interested to see what optics people are using

I have stuck to NF for mine, as well the one has the S&B on it,

What is your chosen optics to pair the APO SH Rifle with?

@Lowlight what speeds are you seeing from your 6.5?

Mine only has 60 rnds through it so I expect it to speed up but my initial speed is 2623 from a Hornady 140. I'm just wondering what everyone else is getting?

My M700 is about 100fps -/+ slow from book on reloads and factory. Around 2600 on Hornady AG. I figured its the 22" vs the 24" most test ammo at.

Even after a couple hundred rounds.

My schmidt & bender pmii 5-25x56 is in a Spurh 4602 now. I think it's height is a 38mm.
Thanks for the reply!
Last night I mounted the Steiner in a set of Badger Ordnance Rings, Extra High, 1.375in, Aluminum, NSN 1005-01-604-1550, P/N 306-54
They worked perfectly!

Purdy Sweet!
I asked APO about chambering the Snipers Hide Edition in 6.5 PRC.
He said they could do it but need a short action with magnum face, and they were just using their last Saber X action in a build. Dont know how long til they get more of these actions, and from what I understand from build times, I can’t wait that long.

But I liked Lowlights vid, and the green chassis is pretty cool.

I jumped on the sale - going for 6.5 creedmoor. Visited their location in VA - class group of guys and very knowledgable - spent a couple of hours there - generous with their time and knowledge. Left them my scope so they can mount it when the build is completed. About a month out ...

Hey guys i see we have a few questions on what kind of velocity numbers we are seeing in the Sniper's Hide rifle builds. We have been testing with the Peterson Precision Ammo 140gr ELD-M. We are seeing the 6.5cm's running from 2,750fps-2,850fps, Here is one that was tested a few months back when we started production. We will continue to check rifle velocity from time to time but the accuracy is great and very consistent with the new Peterson Precision Loaded ammo! Again this is one small sampling from the Sniper's Hide rifles, each rifle will vary.

Why not buy an action and send it to them?

If you find and action you want us to build on we would be more than happy to. Also i just came across a Surgeon 591 with magnum bolt face, that we could work something out on. I apologize if the sales team has been hard to get in touch with lately as we drop a huge sale for the 4th of July. Send me us an email [email protected] or call the main office 434.296.8600 and let us know when a good time to call you and will give you a call to talk about a gun build and your time line for the build. I look forward to talking with more.

Does this mean the SH version of the chassis can be purchased on its own and not as a complete rifle?

No at this time we are only offering what we have listed on the website for Sniper's Hide builds. I'm trying to help someone that wants to do a short magnum style cartridge 6.5PRC, 300wsm ect for a Sniper's Hide Style rifle build. So here's what we do, build the same configuration without the Sniper's Hide engraving. Now as far as pricing that will all depend on chassis config and what you want to build i.e. action mfg, Trigger, barrel all drive the price. At that point we can use most any Rem style custom action or factory Rem action with a Mag .550" bolt face. We laser engrave in house so if you want your call sign or Hide handle we might be able to do that as well. Feel Free to give me or a call at the shop.

Anyone get one with the 1piece bolt yet?
Not sure if it matters much, but does the APO scope base have a recoil lug on it?

Matt,

Thanks for that; I'm really looking forward to getting my rifle sometime later this month! Earlier on this page you had mentioned average velocities in the 6.5, any idea on the average for .308? The brochure states a 2,600fps average for the 175 OTM, so guessing that's what you guys are seeing in the testing?

Also, didn't see the Peterson ammo for sale on the APO website, guessing we should just head to the Peterson webpage?

Thanks again for all of the updates!

Hey guys wanted to give you some updates on what we are seeing for velocities on on the Sniper's Hide Training rifle Base model, both .308win and 6.5CM with the Peterson Loaded Sniper's Hide addition ammo and a few other ammo companies below is what we have been seeing. Keep in mind at each rifle will be different so make sure to go out and check different ammo's for accuracy/velocity to get solid baseline data for your rifle allowing you to creating your dope/range cards. Please note the improved performance in 6.5CM with the Peterson Ammo it is quite impressive...

  • Peterson Precision Ammo 175gr Tipped Match King APO is using to test accuracy on all sniper's hide .308win rifles AV 2550fps
    • Pre barrel brake in and post barrel brake in we are seeing them range 2550fps-2630fps.
  • Peterson Precision Ammo 168gr Tipped Match King .308win AV 2800fps.

  • **Peterson Precision Ammo 140gr ELD-M APO is using to test accuracy on all sniper's hide 6.5CM rifles **AV 2840fps **

I got the chance to take mine out to one of the MH classes this summer. The APO rifle shoots lights out, absolutely no issues!!! No other way to put it. If your looking for a great rifle to start with you cannot go wrong with this set up. I'm shooting factory Hornady 140 eld-m with amazing results. As soon as my last case is done I'm going to be ordering some Peterson.

Hey Guy A few of the factory Remington Model 700 AAC-SD barreled actions for the Sniper's Hide Special Edition rifles have a tendency make you pull your hair out to get the best sub-MOA performance required for these Hide rifle builds. However, APO's Precision Weapons Section certainly came yet again on this rifle! 5-shots at 100 yds firing the Peterson Cartridge Company 6.5 Creedmoor ammo loaded with the 140gr ELDM Hornady projectile squeaked in just under 0.2 MOA. We'll take that for sure! The Hide member...oh he's really happy!

Customer also gets once-fired brass and a half-box of loaded Peterson ammunition with this bad boy! This rifle will make a big difference for the student training with it in the upcoming Sniper's Hide Precision Rifle Course. Performance matters!
The Trigger Tech trigger was set to 3 lbs and broke crisply with each and every round fired. Ashbury continues to be impressed with the performance of the LUCID optics 4-32x56mm rifle scope which we continue to shoot on a variety of rifles and calibers to see if it will hiccup...not yet and doing fine. Not much can be said other than "great" about the consistent precise performance from Talley's BONES Scope Rings, they are ROCK SOLID.
Be sure to take a new shooter to the firing range and show them how to safely enjoy the American heritage sport of firearms marksmanship! It's important to the future of our sport as there are storms on the horizon....

Hey Guys we have another batch of Sniper's Hide Rifles headed out to new homes and this one really caught my eye! Sniper Gray Cerakote finish with a black barreled action on this Hide rifle looks frickin HOT! This customers Snipers Hide rifle met the sub MOA accuracy spec with a 5-shot group that measured at just under .45MOA at 100yds.

The Leupold Mark 8 3.5-25x56 is a proven performer, and the Trigger Tech Primary trigger is set to a crisp 3lbs. The ammo.... Peterson 308Win 175gr TSMK was spot on!
