Fieldcraft Here is my field gear. Looking for Opinions.

I just read this entire thread.... That's several minutes I'll never get back.

This forum is very different from what it was 10 years ago. Back then, one had better have a condom on their feelings because they're about to get fucked!

Yup, read all 5 pages.
Sometimes SH is Better than Netflix, and it's FREE (sort of).

I respect all the disrespect from the experts here (seriously).

I live on high ground (ASL 16') pretty much surrounded by swamp.
I would need a plastic Ghillie if I left the house to keep the SHTF lowlifes coming from the north side of town.
Since this isn't desert carrying a life straw or 3 and a small roll is 5/16" surgical tubing seems like a better option than carrying a couple gallons of water. Drop the tubing in the creek, drink from the straw, wait for a gator for food. Tubing makes a good tourniquet in case the gator wins.

I don't do sand.

Hello there.

Would you like to expand and tell us more about your field gear?

Gonna need a pic or two of you with your kit and the plastic ghillie. Preferably near the swamp so we can compare the terrain colors.

My gear? Not much. I don't lay claim to being an operator or a mall ninja.
Haven't hunted in many years except for photographs of animals.
Primarily a target shooter. If it's moving around me it's pretty safe.
Once took 9 12 ga shots at a thrown clay. Missed, it hit the ground and rolled off to safety.
I'm retired, not fat, wife's a retired field radio operator, we both are 6 coverers.
You know, the family that shoots together and all that.
We KNOW the ground around our place and that's where we will be.
Sloppy swamp on two sides, sacrificial city dwellers on one, an S curve drive.

I might wear Commercial Camo sometimes (not at the mall) but usually just dark. A mesh balaclava is my main camo. No plate carriers. Well, not true. Expired ceramic plates, one for each of us and cariers that say Policia on a pull down.
There are several cover/concealment locations throughout the swamp.

Our overnight packs include insect spray, a frozen bottle of water, the aforementioned Life straw, some jerky and bars for a snack, I pack an IR flashlight and something to see it with and few little nick nacks. Wife is a RN and will keep me alive :)
The packs go with us when we travel including a 3rd truck pack. But, we don't travel often. When we do it's usually with guns to a gun event. We have a spare room called the SHTF room with stuff and another called Dr. Mom's Office. I'm an Extra class Ham and have comms. If necessary I can FIND nearby radios.

Bump in the night gear is a plain old AR, wife likes the 12 ga. and a 1911. Carry just enough ammo to wake the neighborhood.
One will go, one will take a window position but I often just rely on 14 cameras around the property, with solar/battery back up, and not net connected. I illuminate (with 880 and 940nm) about 2 football fields at night.
Here's a pic of me in my gear, from above :)

@Rocketvapor how in the heck did you shoot 9 shots at a clay before it hit the ground and rolled away?

I’m gonna need to know what kind of tactical 9 round full auto shotgun you are running. Gotta get me one of those.

It's a semi's from a place far away that I put on a long mag tube.
I talked about it on ARFCOM and was told it was a piece of shit.
It's actually the wife's. She bought it when it was her turn.
I got a Redhawk next for my turn.

I feel like I shouldn't feed this animal because of the backlash associated, however, you sir have an awesome place down in the swamps!

How many of the shots were taken while it was rolling away to safety?

So has anyone tried to message the op and ask him to come back to his thread? Am kind of concerned his hide was over ran and something happened to him.

Or does lowlight have to send out "the german" and a few others on a rescue mission?

From his profile info...

Y'all gave him one helluva case of concussion and tinnitus though... This thread must NOT ever get pushed into archives.

Well, it's NOT a $1000 FN.
It's a cheap TriStar Raptor ATAC.
Wife saw one on sale and bought it. She can hit moving targets, I can't.
Lots of negative reviews , piece of crap, won't cycle trap loads, will break with full loads, etc.

We've never had a problem with it.
First day out we each had 2 bandoleers (worn crossed :) ) with 25 field loads each. 100 rounds.
Went to local range with remote throwers. Had fun.
9 Double OO and it pushes hard :) Still fun.

You do know about the guy the went to the Dr with a voice problem?

Yeah he talked real deep, like Froggy, it was his penis, it was 3 feet too long and was pulling on his Larynx.

The poor guy was facing a lot of criticism over his voice, so the Dr cut off 2'-3" which left the guy with nine inches.

Month goes by and the guy comes in for a checkup and tells the Dr how greatful he is to him.

BUT

He says to the Dr, hey Doc, do you still have that piece of my cock you cut off of me?

You know, the wife kinda wanted to get it, hang it on the mantel, you know conversation piece and all.

Dr looks at the guy and IN A REAL DEEP VOICE, oh it must be hanging around here somewhere.

The op posted not long ago in another thread. Seems like he wants to gillie away and not come back to the AO he created.

Your jute needs to get really dirty...to a trained observer you’ll be brighter than everything else around you. Recommend adding 6-8” pieces of green and tan 550 cord to help break you out.

Admittedly, I'd like to have a few more carriers/armor sets for the family, but I dont own any of the rest of that shit. While I appreciate the gear (the good shit, not that pussy Skoal) for it's intended use, I can not see the need to train in a loadout designed for E&E, every time you hit the range. Learn what you use, and learn it well. Under any and all circumstances your training provides.

That being said; I want to know who's gonna be the next to step up and show us how it's done. So that when I open the notification for this thread, it's more than all the folks just reading it. ?

i was going to post mine, but last time it involved a bikini in the pic, i got banned from the thread. :)

Here's some gear opinions...

100mph tape.

Bands to attach veg to that abomination of a ghillie

An E tool and a bakers dozen short, sharpened lengths of bamboo for implementation of punji pits

A large container of owl dung to coat the bamboo

Multicam boxer briefs, so he'll never see you coming......

Face paint. Because of the reasons. That's why

Spray fox piss on yourself to throw off the human odor.

A shakeweight. Always be training.

Nudey mags. It gets lonely in the pretend suck

A longer thigh rig strap. I mean, I need that bitch to be at least calf level.

Hair relaxer. Itll help with the jute tangles that I'm sure you're already trying to brush out.

A forearm tattoo of Mark Walberg's likeness from lone survivor, wrapped in tribal and peace frogs.

And last, but certainly not least.....
A Go Girl. Itll help with peeing, once you're dug into your hide.

That's all I've got. For now...

Late to the party, but would you please get out of my ruck?!?

I contacted the OP and he said he put it up as a joke and was enjoying the responses. FWIW.

Just curious....

Is there a gear list anywhere that would cover common missions.

ie patrol would look like this....

overwatch would look like this...

ect.,,.

of course gear is mission specific but do you have a base that you build from?

Thank you!

Eca7981, the reason threads like this generate such ridicule on this site is that those that are actually doing patrol, overwatch, etc. usually choose the gear that's issued to them. So often questions like yours are posed by people just fascinated by cool gear, not the actual users. Some on this site pick up on that right away and the fun begins.
