Last election it was Ebola. This time around it’s Corona. Let’s place bets for 2024.

More Human Error:

The hospital sent their specimens to a CDC lab in Atlanta for testing. According to the source, three of the four specimens were incorrectly labeled upon arrival and so they were not tested. The CDC lab did not realize the specimens were from the Miramar patients.

FYI- Just ran across this on their website.

The shortage of Chinese goods coming into the country is going to have some interesting effects. Lots to learn from all of this when it's all said and done.

Hubei cases spiked more than 15,000 overnight on the Johns Hopkins real time tracker...

Probably a new and improved testing kit for viral nucleic acid detecting previously undiagnosed sufferers being used in the two plague hospitals in Wuhan, Huoshenshan and Leishenshan.

Last night the numbers of infected were at 45,204 and the graph seemed to start peaking and leveling out from the previous 2 days. This morning it became 60,349. Now due to this spike, the graph could not even be shown.

Real time "official numbers" tracker:

I am not surprised at all by that statement, judging by the quality of all of the new hires that circulated through our plant in the last 3 months. We cannot seem to get any fucking person who is actually serious about their job, serious about being punctual and notifying the plant if their commute is running late, or reporting any fuckups they made on the shop floor to their supervisors immediately so the broken components do not get shipped to the buyer or placed into hardware sets. None. NOT. ONE. Every single guy we tried to hire that had a somewhat decent resume all started doing multiple call outs within the first week of their hire, or being pathologically late and unable to provide any reason why when we confronted them about it. One IMMEDIATELY started hitting on the 50 year old Italian lady who operates the phone and the work order call in line. Two days later we caught him smoking weed in the rear of the plant where the broken pallets are stacked when he should have been observing and taking hands-on instruction for his first tasks from the sheetmetal cutting team. The place was reeking, and a visible cloud of blunt smoke hung all around the overhead halogen. And the motherfucker DENIED that he had been smoking.

I am not surprised that some asshat bungled up the labels on critical samples that had to be tested right away. THIS is the kind of shit that our school systems seem to be churning out at a near 98% rate these days.

Best Korea deals with the C-virus

Being a North Korean official or high Worker's Party member carries even more risk than being an Ottoman diplomat sent by Sultan Suleiman to the court of Vlad the Impaler...

And that article page had dozens of links to other articles about North Korea. Holy fucking shitballs Batman, what a pathetic joke of a country, when EVERYTHING that makes the news about the country belongs in the WTF category...

We are going to have a shortage of Happy Meal toys, and Harbor Freight shelves are going to go bare...? I kid.

Right now we can't actually prove specific cause and effect (at least for another month), but it looks like the situation in China is starting to have an impact on computer component prices and availability. Prices are going up and stock is starting to get scarce on a lot of higher end CPUs, GPUs and memory that are usually part of the "just in time" stuff due to the cost to stock it.

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO CONTRACT AND SURVIVE 2019nCOv, now known officially as COVID-19.

A Chinese student in Wuhan recalls his harrowing experience and near death journey from the beginning to the end of his ordeal battling COVID-19 pneumonia. His life may have been saved by the use of powerful antiretrovirals used formerly for treating HIV.

----------
For one coronavirus patient at ground zero of the outbreak, the journey from infection to recovery was a nightmare scenario that entailed multiple hospital visits, symptoms so severe he thought he would die and quarantine under police watch.

Tiger Ye — not his real name — is a 21-year-old student in Wuhan, the central Chinese city where the new virus first emerged. Ye, who doesn’t want to be identified for fear of being ostracized, first suspected he’d caught the illness that’s spread around the world on Jan. 21, when he felt too weak to finish dinner. He checked his temperature, and it was up.

At the time, little was known about the virus now known as COVID-19, but paranoia was rapidly building after authorities confirmed the highly contagious pathogen was spreading between humans in the city of 11 million. It was midnight when Ye arrived at Wuhan’s top-tier Tongji Hospital to see a waiting room filled with people like him. Feverish, he knew he would have to wait hours to be tested.

“I was scared,” he said. “Countless cases were piling up on the desks, and every single doctor was wearing protective clothes, something I’d never seen before.”

What followed was more than two weeks of anxiety and desperation as Ye tried to confirm if he had the pneumonia-causing virus and get treatment for his increasingly severe symptoms. He was one of the lucky ones, beating the sickness in part because his father, a health care worker, was aware of the risks earlier than most of Wuhan’s population.

More than 1,000 people have died from the new coronavirus in Hubei, the Chinese province of which Wuhan is the capital. A severe shortage of hospital beds, testing kits and other basic medical equipment mean many have to stand in line for hours to get diagnosed, and some die before even seeing a doctor. China has quarantined vast swathes of Hubei, and the outbreak has caused parts of the world’s second-biggest economy to shut down as scientists across the world race to find a cure.

The night Ye first sought treatment, he was able to procure medicine from a smaller hospital nearby after abandoning the wait at Tongji. Because his symptoms weren’t classed as very severe, doctors told him to just go home and quarantine himself.

The first four days of the illness were brutal. “I suffered from a high fever and pains that tortured every part of my body,” said Ye. He spent the days watching Japanese cartoons to distract from the discomfort.

By the time his follow-up appointment at the hospital arrived four days later, the Wuhan government had locked down the city, barring anyone from leaving to stop the virus’ spread. Everything changed in an instant: roads were empty, prices for fresh fruit and vegetables surged, and residents were unsure if they were even allowed to leave their apartments.

Ye’s condition had also deteriorated. “I was coughing like I was going to die,” he said.

At the hospital, multiple CT scans showed it was highly likely Ye had contracted the novel coronavirus and that it had spread to his lungs. Doctors deliberated if he qualified for a nucleic acid test, which would use the virus’ genetic sequence to confirm if he had been infected, but it was decided his case wasn’t severe enough. The precious supply of test kits had to be reserved for more critical patients.

Diagnosis has emerged as one of the major stumbling blocks in getting the virus under control in Hubei, where the number of those who fear they are infected far outweighs the capacity of hospitals to confirm if they are. On Thursday, Hubei began counting patients who were diagnosed via CT imaging alongside those who tested positive with the nucleic acid kits, resulting in a more than 45% surge in the number of confirmed cases, to nearly 50,000 people.

As Ye convalesced at home after his second hospital visit — not knowing if he had the virus or not — his brother and grandmother also began to show symptoms of infection. Overnight, Ye’s condition worsened to the point he thought he might die. “I thought I was knocking on hell’s door,” he said.

Ye went back to the hospital after his temperature soared to 39 degrees Celsius (about 102 degrees Fahrenheit). Doctors put him on an IV drop and administered Kaletra, a combination drug used to treat HIV that has shown some success in combating the virus, bringing his temperature down to 37 degrees by the end of the day.

A week after the symptoms first began, Ye appeared to be reaching a turning point.

The young student’s condition was steadily improving when he finally secured one of the coveted test kits on Jan. 29, which confirmed he had the virus. His doctor gave him a five-day course of the antiviral drug Aluvia and sent him back to his three-bedroom apartment for quarantine, in part because the hospital didn’t have enough beds to accommodate him.

Nine days later on Feb. 7, another set of nucleic acid tests came back negative for the virus, but Ye wasn’t out of the woods. After reports that even patients who tested negative could slip into critical distress, the local government quarantined him in a hotel that had been turned into a makeshift hospital. Police stood guard outside to prevent anyone from leaving or entering.

Ye was allowed to go home five days later, ending a saga that began more than three weeks ago. He‘s thankful he survived, and salutes the doctors and nurses who put their own lives at risk to help him. Some doctors told him they suspected they had the virus, but continued to treat patients.

Like many Chinese, Ye is critical of the government’s response to the outbreak, especially the slow initial response from local officials that meant a precious opportunity to contain the virus early on was missed. The two most senior Communist Party cadres in Hubei were replaced Thursday, as Beijing tries to gain control of the spiraling crisis.

“Hubei has missed one opportunity after another while they were trying to keep things under wraps,” Ye said. “Things wouldn’t have come to this point if the government hadn’t hidden information a month ago.”

don't forget the 2009 H1N1 pandemic media scare also going along with the signing of declaration of National Emgency .

Probably after a sanctuary city has an outbreak, Trump sends aid but the corrupt mayor hides it in a warehouse somewhere. Then the city gets locked down in quarantine which makes everybody not sick get sick unless you are an illegal immigrant, in which case you are free to go even if you have a 103 degree temperature, open sores and are projectile-coughing gallons of phlegm all over the place.

So i was thinking (sometimes that happens), that China my have used biowarefare on its own people for the rioting that took place in Hong Kong. Looks like Wuhan was also experiencing demonstrations earlier this year. Stay classy China by killing off your people.

An N95 respirator is not going to protect you from the Coronavirus as it is only capable of filtering particles at 300 nanometers. The Coronavirus is smaller than that at roughly 120. So, while better than nothing, that’s not full proof protection.

Hardcore old school commies versus modern "progressive" envirofreaks???

Quarantine the entire region. 'LetThemFight.gif'... Popcorn time for the rest of us, as long as whatever heavy artillery they choose to deploy does not fly over the barricade and explode near us.

I deal with an awful lot of welding, cutting, grinding, sanding, and industrial degreasing/stripping, both at my work and my outside projects, including gun stuff, and I keep a variety of face protectors, both disposable N95's and half face P-100's with replaceable filters for use during this kind of work. If it is one thing that construction field guys love to do besides getting shit faced on off hours, it is also long talk and bullshitting sessions. However, there is a lot to be learned by being in this crowd. For one, it is common knowledge among workers in these trades that N95's do not offer full protection even against certain kinds of construction debris. Wear one and run an angle grinder or Dremel long enough and you will find that your mask has literally been saturated with black particles. During this sandblasting, it is also quite possible that some of these particles will have found a way around the mask and entered your nostrils. Even guys who wore masks still reported blowing out dark colored snot for a few seconds after cutting pipes all day long. Now go a little even more advanced. Strike an arc with a stick electrode. See that plume of smoke that is rising above the pretty blue light? Even with a P-100 on, you still want to keep your face as far from that plume as possible, otherwise a Darwin award with your name on it just got printed somewhere. Face masks are always regarded by us as merely an additional layer of emergency security that do NOT replace or bypass other measures such as adequate forced air ventilation either via a fan or a suction tube. If even the best masks offer limited protection against VISIBLE dangers, what would prevent a virus from getting through? A virus would be in more close relation in size to smoke and vaporized flux molecules than sanding and grinding particulates. And masks offer almost no protection against fumes. If you plan to work with your head in the smoke for any period of time, you are going to need a full seal gas mask with oxygen supply.

If you want to make it through a possible pandemic with your hair intact, your best investment will be personal biosecurity through adequate hand washing and hand sanitizing, not touching anything else after you have touched potentially contaminated items, separating outside clothing from inside wear, and AVOIDING places where large crowds with potentially sick individuals gather, ie., doing your grocery shopping later at night or earlier in the morning to beat the crowds. Getting enough sleep and making sure you have consumed proper nutrients also go a very long way.

turns out that the passengers that were cleared to leave the cruise ship and fly to America, well 14 of them tested positive for coronavirus.

That’s actually been around. Public usage of the term maybe not as much.

There is a twitter video somewhere with bodies lining a street in China recently. Not sure what to think. As with most things anymore.

If I was a conspiracy theorist something like this looks like it could be used as alien invasion to unite the word that Ronald Reagan spoke of.

At least until the real aliens show up.

Interesting,...they don't seem to do that with a flu outbreak? Don't worry, you can always trust the gov to do whats best, an to tell you the truth about ongoing or up coming events,....right?
When was the last time we flew people into a 14 day holding area for the flu? Oh wait,... that is not a Legal question to ask in today's world, is it?

Don't worry,...be happy,.... uncle will save you,.....

This thing has the potential to check off a lot of boxes in favor of a better control grid it seems.

Cashless societies would be a biggie.

Is it expected for so many videos to leak out of China?

I guess where there is a will there is a way. This one is a real emotion stirrer.

Never know what sort of "spark" will set off a society changing conflagration.

Certainly shit like this made it clear to that woman that the Communist Government does not have her best interests at heart.
