Tikka T3 Thread

Can anyone weigh in on receiver length or extended length 20 moa Mountain Tactical rail. (T3X Leupold Mark5HD 5-25x56)

I only have extended but the receiver is so long the receiver length is long enough and you don’t have to worry about the bell hitting the extended part. If they offered the 40 in receiver length I’d have bought that on my last one.

Atlasworx dropped right in to the CDI inlet. I had to lathe a couple spacers. .115 in the front and .220 in the back. Mag fits great. Also added another t-nut to the fore end and mounted a BT17 rail for my bipod. Mulled out the bolt pocket a little to handle the long bolt throw with the cheek riser in the highest notch and added two flush cups to the left side. Got my brass, dies, reamer and go gauge from Rich. Waiting on the blank from Bartlein.

Hey all new to the forum and thought I'd share my tikka builds I had done by straight shot gunsmithing.

First is a Tikka T3 6.5 PRC with a K&P 27" 7.5 twist light palma barrel. JCS Carbon stock and Mtn tactical bottom metal and a Mcarbo trigger spring. It loves 147s and 156's It will soon have a glades armory bolt handle and a leupold mark 5 5-25 scope.

Second is a T3X 25 SST with a proof sendero 26" 7.5 twist barrel, SSG ti V port vaporizer muzzle brake, Iota Kremlin stock, mcarbo trigger spring kit. And soon to have a leupold mark 5 7-35 scope, glades armory bolt handle and evolution bipod. This one will shoot black jack 131 ace bullets. Waiting on my dies and scope to show up.

I bought a second one for my 223. I’d consider that a pretty strong recommendation.

Yes sir, I agree.

Well, maybe I made a mistake yesterday.
I watched an used Bix´n Andy trigger on our local gun plattform called egun.

I couldn´t resist to bid for it, 250 bucks, and got the damn thing.

Actually I like two-stage-triggers, but now I will give that guy a shot and see where it brings me.
I can sell it anyway and get me a Midas if I don´t like it.

Thanks for your info.

Any thoughts of that new Tikka coming in a week from here?
Maybe semiauto?
PRS trainer 22LR?
If it is something totally new, i would put my money on semiauto.

Hopefully some new calibers.....

I'd like to see MDT make a tikka bottom metal to use their LA Tikka magazines. I prefer a tradition stock for hunting.

So,

bought a yo dave trigger spring to lighten my 6.5 CTR trigger this weekend. Previous owner had the trigger right at 4 lbs. Took the action out of the stock to find that the screw holding the trigger spring still had some room to be backed out. Backed it almost all the way and with the stock spring it started cleanly breaking at 1.5 lbs which is plenty light for me.

took it to the range and am loving the 1.5 lb pull but it does take some getting used to. As you can see, i pulled the fourth shot because the trigger went off before i was fully anticipating it.

bottom line, I have a yo dave trigger spring if anyone is needing one. PM me.

Finally got the McMillan installed on my hunting rifle. Loving the balance and the Thunderbeast suppressor (when it comes) will finish it out nicely. It has been a multi year project to get it here. Started off as a stainless CTR in 6.5 CM but since then I had the barrel cut to 19 inches and fluted. Had it Cerakoted, added a Area 419 20 moa rail, aftermarket bottom metal to accept the factory mags. Finally I added the Carbon McMillian stock, Nightforce scope, Seekins low rings and Sterk handle. I think I'm done now but who knows :)

Not more many days to wait that :)
Until that, enjoy the silence and look at these ;)

Viking,
awesome looking rifles, like always.

Seeing your Atlas bipods makes me want to ask you, which one you prefer?

I´m having an old BT10 V8 with spinning/rolling feet, which I want to replace, and am leaning to the CAL 2.0.
The 5H seems a bit wide for me. ?

Which one would you take, if you can only afford one?
:giggle:

What would you recommend

CAL is then right choice for you my friend.
I have also PRS, and i still like it very much :)

Hello my Northern friend, I´ve found PRS guitars or RPS bipods.

You mean the second one I guess.
:D

What is your weight as it sits and what kind of velocity are you getting from the 19" barrel?

Nice rifles. Did they both start as magnum boltface actions? Any idea what they weigh? I was going to go 7 SAW and a carbon fiber barrel after I shoot out my 18" 6.5 Creed barrel, but the 131 ACE has me wanting to do a 25 Creed or similar. I don't have a magnum bolt though, only standard.

How do you like the IOTA?

Decided to try and rebarrel my T3x on my own. A coworker machined a barrel vise for me and I bought a Proof pre-fit in .308. (Don't hate me for not going 6.5CM, since I already have a KRG SOTIC for that.)
Torqued the new barrel on at 100 ft/lbs and headspaces perfectly. Decided to also Cerakote the entire rifle. Old CTR .308 barrel had 3500 rounds down the bore and was firecracked all to hell. Was shooting MOA at best. New barrel is already a tack-driver. Took 50 rounds of plinker 168 ammo that I mass-loaded for my gasser to break-in. I followed Proof's recommended break-in cycle. Barrel cleans up in 2 dry patches and 2 wet followed by 2 dry with zero copper buildup now after 30 rounds. I call that success. BTW, the break-in ammo I was using is not an optimized load, uses ball powder, and used to shoot 1.5 MOA out of the old barrel. Without load development, and breaking in, I shot 4 sub-half MOA groups with this barrel. Loving the Proof. It is not just a fancy carbon barrel. It's an outstanding barrel all on its own. Glad I went with it.
Decided to Cerakote the CADEX chassis a different color than the usual FDE, and have LRI flute my bolt body while I was at it. Can't recommend LRI enough. They got their process down pat, less than a week turnaround for custom work is unheard-of. Bolt looks awesome.
This is intended to be my 1000 yard gun. Was only ever able to hit 800 with my old T3x barrel.

Thank you! Yes the 6.5 PRC was a 300 wm and the 25 SST is a 270 wsm. Bought them new online for 519 and 559. The SST weighs 7#4oz with mtn tac bottom metal leupold and pic rail and 26" proof sendero. I'd have to weigh the prc again but with the 27" light palma and scope I think it was a touch over #. Iota stock is great. The side by action ride a little high covering half the tikka logo on action was my only complaint. A 25 SIP might be a good choice for a little more velocity out of a creed case.

Is Tikka going to release a 20” 6.5 or 260 Tac A1 in the US? I tried to check with Tikka but contacting someone who knows what is going on is tricky and they don’t post an email address.

pic thread: my 270 Superlite. This rifle is crazy accurate and accounted for 2 white tails and a pronghorn this year. Target is 3 shots prone(bipod and rear bag ) @ 517 and 4 shots kneeling.

My 6.5 PRC. Krieger 1:8 barrel. Only shot a box of factory thru it but it seems to be a shooter.

I just ordered a TAC A1 in 6.5 Creedmoor. I might eventually go with an ARCA rail but decided to start out with a Picatinny rail to mount my Atlas Bipod. It looks like mixed results on a rail to attach to the M-LOK. Any recommendations?

As set up with an empty mag and no bipod, it is 8.8# by my scale. With 140 Berger bullets, I'm getting right at 2600 fps. Could get a bit more but shooting pretty good here. I have a suppressor coming so had it cut to accommodate that without getting the rifle too long to hunt with comfortably.

Anyone have any fluting or bolt work done? Was checking out “the polished knob” on fb and he seems so some awesome stuff. Was curious how much bigger the bolt Handke would be.
I haven’t had any fluting done but I did buy a swept back bolt handle and oversized polished titanium bolt knob and I absolutely love it. Looks great and performs seriously well. It’s faaaaaaast.

Not the best picture, but I had a 23.5" medium palma cut down to 18" so it would be handier with a suppressor. I was running a factory 20" with 130gr Prime for deer hunting. I gained about 10 fps even though I went 2" shorter, getting 2756 with the factory Prime with the TBAC 30P-1 on it. I have a new Dominus SR on order that I will swap between this and my AR. I am getting 2730 with 143 ELDX handloads, have some other bullets to play with, but I really like the terminal performance that I have seen with the 130 Norma Golden Target on 6 deer so far.

What model is your McMillan and how long was the wait on it?

You can’t go wrong with the rails from Magpul. They make both polymer and aluminum, I’d probably choose the latter for a bipod.

If you are going to shoot any PRS style matches, get the Area 419 ARCA rail for it. They make an M-lok version and it makes the gun ride a bag a lot better than the factory forend.

Does Tikka sell the Tac A1 chassis as a stand alone part? Or is my best bet to try and find a take off? I’m looking for one but haven’t seen much.

I might try to get behind one first, personally I think the ergonomics aren’t great. I sold mine and got a KRG Bravo and I’m much happier.

For what you would spend on a used Tac A1 chassis, you have a lot of alternatives in the price range: KRG Whiskey, MDT ACC or Masterpiece Arms are in that some price range.

Interesting. I'll do some more load development when the suppressor gets out of jail. Maybe I should try out some 130's. They also say that an aftermarket barrel will give more speed. It took right at 11 weeks to get my stock so I was happy with that. It is the Game Hunter in carbon with the edge fill.

When the Bartlein was 23.5" I was getting 2830 with the 143 ELDX and only 2662 out of the factory 20" CTR barrel. I figured cutting it to 18" I would still be faster than the 20". I have some of the 130 Norma bullets that I will play with in some Peterson srp brass with a few different powders. Should be able to duplicate the factory Prime or beat it. I have had exits on all deer shot with them so far.

I picked up a T3X Hunter in 30-06 as a donor for my 284 Shehane build, but it needs to ship, and I'd like to order the barrel in the meantime.

If I keep the Hunter stock, is it thick enough along the barrel channel to sand the inside and use a heavier contour barrel? Or would I need to sand the top of the stock down (sides of stock too thin)?

Thanks!

Need help, debating between Mark5HD 3.6-18x44 or the 5-25x56, T3X lite. I have a mountain tactical 20moa rail and have Seekins .95 rings already. Will the 56obj clear or would I need higher rings?? Or just run with the 3.6-18x44 that I know will clear.

On my CTR with 20moa Mountain Tactical base and factory barrel, a 56mm objective will clear with the .92" rings but, a scope cap won't. You would have slightly more room with the barrel on the lite. I'm probably not any help.

Got a pic? I'm not sure how much extra room I'd need with the Mark5 scope caps.
