Do you guys think it’s worth waiting for the upgrade? Griffin isn’t known for being timely on product availability. I’ve been waiting for 4 months for an Optimus Micro just to be manufactured so I can start waiting months for the ATF approval.

I mention this because there’s lots of the regular Optimus gen 1 sitting around in stock.

I would say wait and get what you want. Whatever you get you will be married to forever. It's better to be patient and get what you like best even if it takes longer or costs an extra $100 bucks. With NFA items being what they are it's best to have the buy once cry once mentality.

I also think you are getting an impression based around some one off 'issues'. Recently I saw where Silencer Shop did more sales from January 1 through the end of June than they did in all of 2019. They are on pace to more than double their annual sales. It's insane the amount of things being sold. The sheer volume is unprecedented. Manufacturers only have so many machines and so many people that are competent enough to run them. They only have so many raw materials on hand and restocking up on that stuff is not as simple as running down to Home Depot. It might be a two or three month long process to get the right kind of raw materials. This is not stuff unique to Griffin but it does include them too. All of this is happening during a pandemic too I might add.

A couple of years ago Griffin moved their shop to an entirely new location and in that move some of the timelines got screwed up and communication wasn't the best. That said people are trying to assign a 'reputation' based around some one off 'events'...overall it's not nearly as bad as some people make it out to be.

I have two cans in jail right now. One is a Rugged can and I had to wait for quite a long time to make the purchase because it was OOS. When it came back in stock I bought it within 24 hours. I was sure that's what I wanted so I put my credit card down with no questions. If you don't pounce when stuff is available (in this market for sure) you will be waiting a really long time. With my Rugged can (in jail now) they had the same thing happening in regards to getting something into a production schedule etc as I described above. But because it's Rugged and not Griffin nobody bitched about it.

Griffin, is the ECO-flow feature going to make it into the whole line-up, eventually?

Well, that’s the reason I asked, I’m not sure if I want the gen 1 or gen 2. For my purposes, the wrench flats are the most interesting, as I have had fun removing a stuck can before (direct threaded), but that feature alone my not be worth waiting for because of Griffin’s taper mount possibly being more resistant to locking up? I’d mainly be using it in the shorter configs.

However, the new pistol attachment method might be worth waiting for. I guess I’m not sure and wanted to spark a discussion around the can’s new features.

And I agree, the thing with Griffin being out of stock may be just a one-off and exacerbated by COVID/election.

I've shot a bunch of ammo through a lot of Griffin cans, all taper mount. I've owned Griffin taper mount cans for 5+ years or so...and I have personally never had a problem. That said the only time I have seen people have issues is primarily because of neglect. One dude put a suppressor on a machine gun and left it there for a year, not to mention he torqued it on with a strap wrench to start with and he was online bitching that his can wouldn't come off (after 12 months of regular select fire use).

If you take your can off every once in a while and wipe down the mount and inside of the female side of the mount once every 3 or 4 range trips you won't have a problem. Also you can use anti seize grease which helps as well. Also if I am not mistaken the mounts produced in the last 3 or 4 years all have a slot in the base of them (where you would thread it on the muzzle) so if it gets stuck, you can get a washer (or a quarter) and put it in a vice and use that as a leverage point. Again though, that tends to happen with a lot of neglect or if someone uses a strap wrench to mount their can (or both).

The pistol quick attach is awesome. From my understanding it's able to fit all previous Griffin cans and they are making them for other brands as well. In other words they will be available as a separate thing (if needed).

From what it sounds like to me though, you should definitely wait and pick up a Gen2. It won't hurt anything to wait. It's also not like most places stock 10,000 suppressors of one model and that there are warehouses full of cans somewhere. Somebody might have 4 or 5 (maybe) but it won't take a lot of effort to call and ask if they are Gen 2 or not before buying, especially some place like Silencer Shop.

Thank you for the reply. A data point: I did call Silencer Shop, and confirmed their Optimus stock is all Gen 1.

I'm looking for a 9mm can for my MPX and a couple handgun. I've been thinking of getting the Revolution 9, would this be a better 9mm can?

Its been developed so far for 9mm cans and the bushwhacker it may find its way into other silencers over time but the HEDP baffles for instance still were better in 556 cans for instance. So it cant be applied to everything with equivalent performance results.

Not sure who was saying GEN 1s were still in stock but our sales people said none of their buyers had any Gen 1s in stock at the time of the release. Weve been shipping alot of GEN 2 now for about a month

Thanks! Cool tech. Appreciate your response.

Hello there.
1st time suppressor owner here.
I have a Gen2 (supposedly) Optimus in jail for the time being and I am trying to educate myself while I wait.
Pretty much all the videos I could find on YouTube and on the Griffin website seem to cover only the Gen1.
I am trying to find out the optimal configurations for the following:
Glock 19
20" AR in 5.56
300 BLK 10.5" AR pistol.
So I called Griffin today and I was told that Gen2 Optimus no longer has a short, medium and long configuration.
What I was told is that the long configuration was eliminated and, in my case, I was to use the short configuration (6.6") only for my Glock with the QD muzzle device and booster (I already got my MD) and not for my 300 BLK pistol.
Short configuration would also work for 22 rifles (with a different direct thread attachment).
Basically my other two hosts (5.56 and 300 BLK), any rifle larger than 22, really must use the mid-length configuration only, with the 9mm end cap only.
Can an actual user confirm this?
Why can't Griffin update their website with a new manual and configuration guide and video?
I realize that seasoned suppressors owners may understand all that intuitively, but that is not me, and I need help!
Also, since I don't plan to shoot rimfire or unjacketed bullets, would my suppressor mostly be self cleaning (carbon in, carbon out) as long as I conclude my practice with supersonic loads?

Thank you all for your patience in reading this...

For Mounting on tilt barreled pistols like your Glock 19, we currently have two options. We have our Legacy Pistons and our Cam Lok System. Legacy Silencer Pistons allow you to direct thread your suppressor onto your pistol's barrel and you just need the correct thread pitch for the barrel of your firearm. The downside to these legacy pistons is that like all direct threads, this system tends to walk loose and you need to check tightness periodically to ensure it has not come loose. Our Cam Lok System allows a quick detach method for tilt barreled pistols that features a tapered surface on the barrel adapter and piston so that the suppressor does not walk loose when firing. For this you will need a CAM-LOK Barrel Adapter for each tilt barreled firearm you would like to use it on and you will need a CAM-LOK Piston for the suppressor. This system is only intended for use on tilt barreled firearms.

For the 20" AR, and 10.5" 300 Blackout, I would advise the taper mount configuration. The EZ Brake is a great option for the 20" AR and the minimalist stealth flash suppressor is a great option for the 300 blackout.

Yes, it is correct that the 22 cal end cap should only be used in the short configurations. The Gen 2 Manual and video are currently in the works. On the topic of cleaning, it is good to clean the Optimus, approximately every 500 rounds. If you are using cleaner ammo and all jacketed bullets you may be good to push this round count a bit, but every 500 is advised.

I hope this has helped answer your question. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for your support.
