Sidearms & Scatterguns Has Anyone Built an 80% Glock

Every build I have done the slide is never smooth. I always end up using the honing stone that comes with a dremel kit to make it fit and smooth as glass.

mines getting better with every range trip... I doubt I’ll have to do anything to the frame.

My slide stop is being finicky with Pmags, they work great but those mags seems to trip the slide stop when the last round Is in the mag, instead of on an empty mag

I just did three builds in 3 months, everyone was different. What I did to solve the slide issue, was mark the lower slide rails with a sharpie and rack the upper slide a dozen times and remove slide and inspect. You should be able to see the part of the slide where it needs honing.

Any idea how to get the slide stop to lock on the empty mag instead of the 2nd to last round. I'd prefer not to modify my mags. I was gonna try and just bend the slide stop/mag catch up a little on the inside. Any other ideas?

Check to make sure your slide lock spring is under the upper pin.

It is, at least it was when I assembled it. I'll double check. I'm wondering if the slide stop is just a hair lower than normal, and that combined with the Pmags being a tad high gives me that issue. The factory glock mags don't seem to do it as much, rarely if I'm remembering correctly.

Speaking of mags...anyone run ETS mags in their P80 with any problem?

Right now I'm trying to see if it works itself out naturally. It disassembles much easier now, and is starting to feel more buttery when you rack it back. I really think the slide is also just heavier than most factory slides, so the reduced spring weight helped alot. Seemed to fix all but one of my minor issues.

I'm really happy with it so far. Worst part was....I didn't do my research on holsters...and had to get a holster specifically for it. Some days I wish I would have just bought a damn Glock 34, but most days I'm pretty happy with it. Fits the hands better too

Just take your time building it. Less is more. Don't go brains dead using whatever tools you decide to use. Pay attention, do a little at a time and keep checking your progress. There have been many of these frames ruined because of some shortcut or impatience.

One of my frame rails was a little tight on the slide, but a little grease and 200 rounds and it worked right in fine.

I also played with the recoil spring. I ended up getting a 13lb spring and stainless guide rod from Squirrel Daddy and that helped a lot. I think my slide was heavier mixed with the factory lb spring didn't like anything short of full house loads.

I read about a few people having to remove material to get them to cycle. Did you do any of that or just grease and let it wear itself in?

I know I wasn't asked, but I've built a few. You may have to "massage" just about any part or part of the frame to get a reliable handgun. There have been bad casting and you just can't get the handgun to function. Most of the time Polymer80 is good about replacing the frame. \\

Just grease and about 200 rounds. The lower weight spring was a big help. To be clear though, I wasn't trying to patch the problem with a lower spring weight, I think it actually needs it. The slide is a solid 34 style slide(no weight cuts) with a 6" threaded Silencerco barrel, its pretty heavy for a slide.

After 200-300 rounds it really started loosening up, and now feels just as good as my factory Glock 19. On disassembly you can feel one stick point when the back of the slide comes off the front frame rails, but its gotten significantly better and doesn't seem to be effecting function.

Just built a G26, I tried something different this time with the tabs that need to be removed. I took a utility knife with a new blade and slowly cut those tabs off by scoring it real slow. After about 6-8 scoring the tabs came right off. The cut was so clean I didn‘t even have to sand the receiver at all. You really can not even see where there were.

Looks good. I like the end snips/razor/file combo. These things are so damned easy to build, its hard not to have 100 of them.

Isn't there a company that makes/sells 80% sig kits? It seems like I remember seeing some at the last gun show I went to.
Yep, plenty of info on the web about the sig 80% inserts and build kits

I’ve also built a P80 that my wife got me for Christmas a few years ago. I got the subcompact model and bought my buddies G27 parts. I also bought a 9mm conversion barrel from kkm. It has 1000-ish rounds through it from both calibers and has only had one problem, but that problem was traced to shitty ammo. When I first finished it I bought several ammo types(as you do) and picked up some of the ruger (I think?) copper/polymer 9mm rounds. It was so light that any wrist movement caused a stovepipe, so no more of that shit. I’ve run lots of other stuff, including some .40 handloads, and in typical glock fashion it has eaten everything else.

There’s another 80% frame that just hit the market from 80% arms

That I will be buying at some point and doing exactly what I did with my P80 to. I’m going to buy a glock 23 slide and also a 9mm conversion barrel. Now I just need the time and money for this...

Ive seen some slide parts kits branded by p80, as well as slides by grey ghost precision. I know people have had good luck with P80 frames, however I have no info if Grey ghost is GTG or not.

Are you guys using factory Glock parts or aftermarket for slides and the respective components?

A friend of mine was thinking of selling his g27 right around the time I was building mine so that made my decision easy. I also was planning on initially building mine in .40 so I could buy a 9mm conversion barrel and magazines instead of a complete slide. The next 80% I build will be the same plan, whether I use a factory g23 slide or aftermarket just depends on which is cheaper at the time

Factory glock small parts and aftermarket slides for me. I also polish the trigger/safety stuff before it goes in. I can't bring myself to buy any of the aftermarket triggers yet, most get pretty so-so reviews compared to the 25 cent trigger job. I have been eyeing the johnny glock triggers though.

I built one of these in the 19 size using all Glock parts, with the exception of a couple reliability related substitutions from Apex.
It’s been 100% reliable from the first round.

I just picked up another and looking around, factory Glock 19 upper assemblies have dried up.
A couple on Gunbroker at about the price of a new Gen 5 19. Nope.

I have read that some guns built with aftermarket parts are less than 100% or need a break in period.

Who do you guys recommend as a source for a slide? I don’t need a RMR cut, or any Gucci windows or serrations. Just something equivalent to a factory Glock 19 slide.

Reliability is priority 1.

I put a Brownells slide on my Glock 80 build and works perfect.
