LMT .308 MWS

@LMT/556 "Buy once, cry once on the glass, and if you like something don't be a dumbass and sell it..." Sounds like some well earned wisdom there. Thanks for that.

Thanks, everyone for the photos. Gets me excited to finish the build and get out there to go shooting.

Has anyone tried running a 45-degree RMR/Dot with their scope?

I am leaning towards the ATACR 4-16x42 F1. Just wish it was a little lighter. The Mark V checks all of the boxes but just gets too pricy when adding illumination and a BDC. The Trijicon Tenmile 3-18 also looks good on paper but not much feedback out there.

To completely contradict my go light plan, I do intend to use the LMT DMR stock. It's more weight out front I'm trying to limit.

To that note, does the LW contour barrel give up much other than the typical heats and cools down faster? The barrel is the last part I haven't completely settled on.

Right now I am thinking if I don't do the 16" LW SS, I may do the 18" SS and have it dimpled by Nefarious Arms or the likes, then add a 16" LW CL down the road.... Decisions, decisions. Anyone with experience out there to help?

Just to head up the "what's your intended use question". I've cut my gun collection way back and I'm on the fool's errand of finding the do all. MWS being the name, I figure this is my best shot.

I'm running a 4-16x42 ATACR Mil-XT on my 20'' 6.5. Had it out to 1100 ringing steel and it was awesome. I do wish the crosshair was a little thicker when powered down though.

I have the DMR, prefer the SOPMOD but might try a magpul if I can find my kid's MOE whatever stock he had. I'd go light if you plan to shoot standing. Attached is 3x3 group of Magtech 308D 168 gr SMK 16" CL (standard profile) @100 yards, CompM4s no magnification. These rifles rock.

Take advantage of the full length rail on the top and get 2 piece rings. I prefer NF Ultra Lights. Significantly lighter than a 1 piece setup.

Definitely doing 2 piece rings and NF Ultra Lights are the current top pick. The scope will do double duty on the MWS and Weatherby Mark V 300 Win Mag.

Is there somewhere that goes out to 1100 in VA? I'm south of you in NC. I'd come on up for that.

Well 13.5”, but yes I’m hoping LMT will hop on board and make a LW version, I love the 13.5” 7.62 barrel

Needs to be longer than 13.5" in my opinion.

13.5" leaves you with almost no suppressor muzzle devices to get you to the legal 16". Needing to SBR a 15.5" would be really annoying.

SBRing it is about the same price as doing all that, the point of 8.6 is to be used in a short barrel (light weight, subs and supers, manageable length)12.5” is ideal according to Q but that is too short for the MWS upper.

And if you pin and weld you cant use the new standard taper that all new rifles should have had 2 years ago

Same price as pinning a muzzle device? There is way more to SBRing than just the money.

I live a few miles from the border of another state. I'd rather not have to call a sheriff every time I leave the house with my gun and may fill up a tank of gas on the other side of the border. That and the whole registering your rifle on a government list as a weapon of mass destruction... With the current political state, I'd rather my gun not be on a federal list.

13.5" leaves me wondering why not .5" more for something way more versatile? 8.6 is meant to be suppressed. Forcing owners to SBR over .5" to suppress would be a big mistake.

Sure...

18 U.S.C. § 922(a)(4)
for any person, other than a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector, to transport in interstate or foreign commerce any destructive device, machinegun (as defined in section 5845 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986), short-barreled shotgun, or short-barreled rifle, except as specifically authorized by the Attorney General consistent with public safety and necessity;

Now go look at the muzzle devices for the most popular silencers and subtract out the thread length.

13.5" doesn't get you there. Sorry to hurt your feelings.

Still sounds like you have no idea what you’re talking about. Look up what an ATF Form 20 5320.20 is and what it is used for.

I'm tired and spent about 30 seconds on Google looking it up, but...

ATF has recently updated their forms and now requires notification when you move within a state for any NFA Firearm. This can be done using the 5320.20 form which is described on this page. While the document states that it is not necessary when moving across state lines for a suppressor, it is now required by the instructions on the Form 4. Regardless of how you feel, we would recommend that you complete a Form 20 for any move even if across the street.

The ATF requires prior authorization after a written request to transport any destructive device, machine gun, short-barreled rifle, or short-barreled shotgun under Section 922(a)(4), The ATF does not require this prior authorization for a suppressor. While the prior authorization from the ATF is not required, we do still recommend obtaining an approved Form 20 from the ATF for Suppressors before crossing state lines. We feel that it is better to have a document from the federal government stating it is legal to be in possession of the item in another state than is listed on your Form 4 or Form 1 which was used to acquire the item.

......

Anytime you move or want to take NFA firearms across state lines Two copies of the Form 20 should be completed and sent to the following address by mail, fax or email:

BATFE
Attention: NFA Branch
244 Needy Road
Martinsburg, WV 25405

Correct, it’s about 4 minutes of work, once per year, good for 365 days, not much of a burden.

Correct, it’s about 4 minutes of work, once per year, good for 365 days, not much of a burden.
While I seriously doubt anyone wants to continue to see this MWS thread filled with more chatter about NFA items, I did more research today to further my understanding and knowledge of interstate travel with NFA firearms and this statement above could get someone on the wrong side of the law. This is not legal advice and you should do your own research.

While section 3 of ATF E-Form 5320.20, Application to Transport an NFA Firearm, does allow for a maximum date range of 1 year, section 7 requires a specific address or coordinates of where the NFA item, in this case, a short-barreled rifle, will be transferred to and from, as described in section 6.

Additionally, local state laws should be considered prior to travel with your SBR. For example, here in my home state of North Carolina it has become known the ATF will reject an AFT E-Form 5320.20 if it does not state in section 5 in accordance with NC general statute 14-288.8 & 14-409 - This is the part where our sheriffs become involved.

While the burden may be insignificant to someone traveling to and from two common fixed locations as described in sections 6 and 7 of their Form 20, with an average turn around time of 2-4 weeks, the burden is significant for anyone hoping to toss their rifle in their truck and find a place to drop a tent or park an RV for the night and may or may not cross multiple state borders in doing so.

As stated previously, there is more to be considered when SBRing than simply paying a fee. .5" is not worth it, in my case.

V1tactical said that lmt has stopped giving updates on those of us who backordered, but that they did stop taking new orders to help catch up to demand. It is about to be nine months for me. I don't think I will be paying up front again for something that will be months out even if I have to pay more to get it then vs waiting. Nothing against v1tactical though, the have been great and done all they could. I guess out just bit off more than they could chew!

That sucks it’s been nine months for me as well since I placed my order. My order has been paid in full as well.

I was told in October that I should see my rifle this month.

I didn’t back order necessarily it was a “special order”.

Yeah, same here. I guess back order wasn't the right term. It was a special order. Oh, well. Nothing we can do about it now other than wait. I wonder if lmt got caught by surprise with military contracts, or if they are behind because of the move, or they took too many commercial orders, or what exactly caused such a cluster?

I heard they had a big military contract at the beginning of the year and that is what they prioritized instead of commercial sales.

Add covid, riots, and elections they probably have too much on their plate to handle with orders.

As long as my rifle shows up that’s all I care about. Just gotta wait.....

They had some contracts in January. Luckily it didn’t push my Black Friday order out much further but it seems like everyone after me had to wait the better half of the year.

Has anyone seen any LMT MWS rifles in stock...anywhere? I spoke to an online retailer known to be a reliable source of LMT products and he told me that he is not expecting to have any rifles from LMT in stock until next Spring, due to LMT's focus on cranking out weapons for its military customers. Makes sense, but ... bummer.

I have been waiting about nine months on an order I placed with v1tactical. I asked them about it a few days ago and was told lmt has stopped accepting new commercial orders because they are so far behind. They also told v1 they will no longer give estimates of updates on any pending orders.

OK, yup, that's the company I was working with too.....oh, well.

Yeah, v1 is a great company. They just repeated what lmt told them, and evidently lmt bit off more than they could chew. We will eventually get our rifles. I view it as a positive that they stopped taking new orders so they can get caught up.

You may not have a choice at this point, pay up front to get a spot in line and wait it out...
Agreed. I prob won't be buying anything up front while waiting for months then except for maybe a new razor gen 3 from liberty optics. Luckily, I was already in pretty good shape. This lmt was more of a want than a need mostly for the barrel change feature.

If you bought 308 you will be pleased...

If anyone in Ga is looking, here’s a used one for sale. Not mine...

I was able to purchase my LMT MWS during this Covid stupidity by buying it a piece at a time.
- Complete Lower from Brownells
- Upper Receiver from Primary Arms
- Barrel, BCG, Buffer Tube/Buffer/Spring, & Stock from Titan Defense & V1 Tactical

Where there is a will... there is a way.

Picked up a stripped LMT MWS lower, MWS CQB upper, LMT bolt, and the LMT .308 lower parts kit. It will probably take a while to find all the parts, at normal prices. I assume LMT has a production cycle schedule and the parts will appear all at once when back orders are filled for specific parts.

I have not backordered any supplies. Spent too much money on other items the last sixty days. All of the LMT parts I need are currently on back order.

I also ordered a complete rifle with KAC but I guess that will never happen. Just like LMT the order book is probably extended into 2022.

back in feb I special ordered a lmt mws mlok battle rifle.
Yea I was close to doing the same thing but LMT stopped making their 6.5CM guns so I ended up piecing together the gun I want from parts. Ended up being much cheaper and faster to get parts. I was Lucky to snag a BCG off Gunbroker for $370. Also got one of the last MARS-H stripped lowers from V1. I think All in with a Larue MBT trigger I will be right around $2700 with MWS Mlock 20" SS 6.5CM barrel and SOPMOD stock.

mine ended up being about 2200, which is a fantastic price....when it arrives
