A few guys on here received their barrels not to long ago. I ordered one a week ago that the website said was in stock, still no shipping info yet. Was going to email him next week. Eric is a great guy and works hard to put out a great product.
I sent 3 emails over the last 2 months asking for status? Have not heard a word.
He’s slow and bad at deadlines but his barrels are great. I ordered a lightweight .300 prc barrel from him in July and got it in early October.
What twist did you get and what bullet weights are you shooting. .300 prc is going to be my next purchase.
Oh I can't say enough about the work he does. I have gotten several barrels from him over the years and he has always been helpful. The barrels have shot lights out to say the least. Was just hoping to get this build in time for this years hunting. Now the season is just about half over.
Idk why mine is so far behind yours. When I do get it I'll do a good review of how it shoots.
I just messaged Desert Tech about there handguard availability. Im looking to get a full length handguard. They said they have them in stock and you can order through them.
I shot ten barrel break in shots in my 18" 300NM barrel today. I shot one and clean for six shots and copper fouling dropped off between the 5th and 6th so I shot the last four then cleaned. There was almost no copper after the four consecutive shots as well.
215 bergers at 20 thou off the lands and a low starting charge weight of 83 grains of H1000 averaged 2660fps. Berger actually lists 83.5 as starting but there coal is a little longer than mine.
230 atips 20thou off the lands with 80 grains of H1000 averaged 2560fps. 80 grains is what berger lists as a starting charge weight for there 230 hybrid.

Are those velocities out of the 18” 300 Norma what you expected?

As a point of comparison, I get 2500fps out of an 18" factory DTA .338LM barrel shooting 300gr projectiles, whereas the same load in the 26" barrel is about 2750fps.
The short magnums can be fun to shoot, and obviously an SRS with an 18" barrel is VERY maneuverable and handy, but the blast can be a bit of an issue (at least that's what I found over the years). Using a suppressor mitigates the blast and is probably one of the best reasons to even have a short magnum, however a lot of suppressors aren't rated for the crazy pressures you get with such short barrels. So it can be a bit of a conundrum.

Hard to say since those are starting loads. I will see where pressure is and then of course where it wants to shoot. I think realistically it will likely push the 230 atip at 2650 to 2750.
The 230 atip has a g7 bc of .421 so with a baro pressure of 29.92 and a temp of 59 degrees your still traveling 1682fps and have 1445ft-lbs of energy at 1000 yards. It will also be super sonic to 1740 yards.
That is why I pursued this combo. I wanted short since I am tired of carrying flag poles. This set up also strikes a balance between recoil and retained down range energy and velocity.

There is defiantly more blast than my 300 NM in a standard rifle with a 26" barrel but its not bad for the shooter. If cans were legal in canada I would have one for sure.

Hey guys, I've only been running the SA and LA bolts on my Gen 1 SRS since day one, but now I'm considering getting a 6.5PRC barrel and that would require the 300WM bolt.

Yes.
I say yes because you can use your Gen 1 bolt in an A1 barrel as I have in the past.
When they made the change to the barrel extension for the Gen2 release, the feed ramp cut was the only modification. The bolts were all interchangeable at the time between Gen 1 and Gen 2. No changes to the extension have been made since the Gen 2 was released.

That's what I figured. I still have a LA Gen 1 single-piece bolt with the tear drop handle, but in 2012 I upgraded to the newer bolts with swappable bolt faces (swapping complete bolts is still better). But this was still before the A1 and A2 and it looks like there's been yet another evolution in the bolt design since, which is why I thought I'd double check. Thanks!

A2 owners. If I have a pic rails attached to the mlok slots on the hand guard will I have able to do barrel changes, or will I need to remove the rails to put in/pull out barrels?
Rails on the bottom is no problem but the barrel is quite a bit closer to the top of the handguard.
It should be ok even with proof research carbon barrels. That said, wirh a proof barrel on my A2, I can’t use the integral QD sling swivel points

Update from ES Tactical. The 6.5CM barrel I ordered in August is shipping next week.
I've gotten several barrels from Eric and even though it can take a while he always delivers and the work is awesome. Really nice guy too! BTW I've never had a problem reaching him by phone (number listed on website).
DesertTech's website has the standard contour 26in 300 win mag and "ultralight" 26in 300 win mag conversion kits as both weighing 5.7 lbs. Does anyone know what the actual weight discrepancy is between the two? And if possible, does anyone know what the complete SRS A2 with the ultralight 300wm factory barrel weighs? Having a hard time finding the total weight. I'm seeing varying reports from my google searches

DT said the A2 shed 1 lb from the A1, so you can start at 3 lb 8 oz and add up from there. Unless someone posts up the actual weight of a 300 WM ultralight, it’s just a guess.
5.7 lb sounds like the barrel, bolt, and magazine. it wouldn’t be much of an ultralight if 5.7 lb was barrel alone.

Yeah, I think the kit weight was 5.7 lbs. Which countour that represents, I'm not sure. I saw the part about the shedding of a pound. Do you know if it is a pound exactly? I don't mean to bugger up the thread with questions concerning what some would consider minutia, I'm just really trying to get an SRS A2 to fit into the Open Light division's 12lb limit for the NRL Hunter Series. The weight is looking pretty close now so I just want to be sure before I drop 5k on a rifle, sight unseen

For those wondering about A2 weights, I weighed my A2 Covert chassis this morning. Just the chassis and skins. No bolt, spacer, buttpad, etc. The chassis and skins came in 3 lbs 6 oz. that is 1 lb 2 oz lighter than Pinhead’s weight of his A1 Covert.

I switched to Elite iron about a year ago. Such a stable bipod. Pricey, but damn good.
Nice I'm going to sell My Tier-one Evolution Bi-pod and buy the Elite iron.
I'm thinking about the Panning model.
I will say the Elite Iron non-pan model doesn’t give you much ability to move to the left or right when you’re behind the gun. That’s a good thing for target shooting at the range, probably not so good for movers or game.
You will also notice I have mine “upside down”. On the A1 and A2 the top rail is metal, bottom rail is plastic. I prefer to keep the bipod on a metal clamping surface so I run it upside down.
