6.5 reloading shortage? Is there a Walter White here!?

In today’s climate, I’ve got to make chicken salad out of chicken...well you get it.

RPR 24”
Pet load (was):
42g of H4350
143gr eld-x
P-mag depth 2.80
Depth to lans is 2.9875 so considerable jump
blasting the cci 250s magnums
~around 2750fps.

Out of 200 hand loads I had one split neck (could be crappy Hornady brass) but no other signs of OP other than the primer pockets being pretty caked. This brass had not been form fired yet.

I’m out of the 250s, but Ive got some cci 200s and old notes had me at roughly at 2690 same everything else. Really? 60fps from a primer? Nah, I’ve missed something, right?

Im limited, for now, to the supplies I’ve listed above. Hoping for a marginal gain from the form fired brass, but I’m already above everyone else’s Max safe loads so I’m hesitant on pushing the issue with more boom juice as the immediate cure.

I’ve played with depth to lans some, but lost interest in having to hand load each round. I have notes that the “oh yeah” node was around 2.93 so considerably too long for mags and only a slight uptick in velocity, but not 60fps...

I’m to the point in my career where i think I could see the noticeable gains from putting in the work and more advanced fine tuning, but don’t have the knowledge or tools to eek out more as it sits.

To the ones that know, Is there something I’m drastically over looking to get more performance out of what I’ve got to work with? Neck tension? Go back to a more optimal jump? I really really don’t want to have to re-dope. :-(

How many x reloaded?

there really isn’t a reason to smoke your primer pockets for 50fps.

I’d back her down

Just once fired on all reloads. Youre right, just sucks I’ve got to re-do all the work to find a node and dope back out with short supplies.

I was hoping to back off a smidge for the form fired and be back in the sweet spot. Now, unless I can find 50 fps the hard way, I’m stuck starting all over again.

Really shouldn’t be splitting necks that fast either. Buddy had like 8 loads on this hornady 6.5 brass before he sold the gun and never split a single neck

We went to different schools so please explain what you are describing in "primer pockets being pretty caked".

I've had split necks on the first firing of factory ammo from Hornady. It happens, Chuck that case and press on.

Blast residue. Standard primers leave that nice impression in the primer pocket easily cleaned up with some brass prep. Magnums scorch the pocket. You gotta really dig in to get it cleaned out.
