I’m looking to reduce the steps needed to spot, range, get wind bearing and wind call, and finally get a correction. I’ll be hunting, shooting steel, and a couple competitions. The current set up I have is a set of cheap bino’s, Vortex Razor HD 4000 rangefinder, handheld Weatherflow weathermeter , and any ballistics app. It’s too many steps, especially when out prairie dog shooting. I need to streamline the process and looking for suggestions. Shooting out to 1,200 yards or so.

Some setups I’m considering:
Leica CRF 3500.com rangefinder
Kestrel 5700 Elite with Link
My cheap binos

Vortex Fury 5000 AB
Kestrel 5700 Elite with Link

Sig 3000BDX
Kestrel 5700 Elite with Link

What do y’all think

I run a kestrel 3500, Leica 2700 and StrelokPro

I’m not familiar with the weather flow but I can say this.

The high end high tech meter and rangefinder will make things easier/quicker. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it will be better than what you have.

If you can read the baro, temp, humidity etc and input that data into your ballistic app then that’s a start.

After that learn to read wind and mirage. The wind has the biggest factor in your shooting solution.

Even if everything could be read with a meter, even if it Bluetooth to the rangefinder, even if that data Bluetooth to the scope (sig has this feature) you still need to read what’s happening down range to make the hits

In my opinion your cheap binoculars are the best thing to upgrade. And the meter if what you have isn’t working. But I don’t know that

A high power rifle scope or spotting scope that can pick up mirage etc will be more beneficial than a setup that calculates everything at the shooters position

After that shooting live rounds is the next best thing

This doesn’t mean the upgrades you suggested (they’ll all work) won’t be better. But knowing what’s going on downrange once you input your weather data will be worth more than all the data compiled at 1 location in a 1200 yard range

Just my $.02

Thank you for the input. I’m wanting something that can capture direction of fire and angle of the shot to get a more accurate solution without having to input it in my phone. I do not want to have to use my phone whatsoever. So looking for setups that can eliminate that. Also, the Fury 5000 AB has wind capture mode so I could spot boils of mirage with them, being they’re 10x, to get wind direction.

I’d be interested to know how the 10X does with the mirage reading. When we shoot 1000 yard fclass our spotting or rifle scopes are typically above 20X to read mirage. On my 15-55 NF I read mirage around 35-40x and shoot at less then 30. I’d imagine 10x would be hard to read the mirage but I may be mistaken

I’ll let you know because I purchased the Fury 5000 AB rangefinder/bino’s and a kestrel. Posting this thread made me realize that’s what I wanted in order to shorten the workflow. Time will tell if I made the right choice.
