I am not sure what the crossover between high end shotgun shooters and high end precision rifle shooters is, but I'd assume it's fairly low?
Probably so but that doesn't, to my mind, cast aspersions on the adjustable hardware used primarily by shotgunners.
my other concern would be the aesthetics of this buttpad and hardware that is obviously designed for shotgun stocks
Well, I don't know that its obviously designed for shotgun stocks and not just a matter of shotgunners being ahead of rifle shooters on configurable stocks to include butt pad and combs that can go up/down and like the KMW hardware also go left right. It seems, with my limited experience, that rifle shooters have discovered the benefit of a stock/chassis that adapts to you and not the other way around.
Everything on that chassis has such a specific look and feel that bolting on an aftermarket add-on buttpad accessory would look fairly strange
Its 3/8's of an inch (total) of metal plates....kind of like the JAE LOP spacers, right? So, I don't really see the difference. On shotguns, the plates get ground to fit the profile of the particular gun they are being installed on. With a chassis that has a fixed butt profile, they can all be ground (or made) the same. Right?
And compared to some of the god awful, Steam Punk, Rube Goldberg looking, adjustable butt hdwr on some chassis, this approach would be downright elegant.
This is my Kolar. This is NOT the 100 Straight hdwr but is a Nelson Adj Hdwr kit with significantly thicker plates. I favor the 100 Straight and of course the edges of the plates can be finished in whatever kind of anodizing or other finishes one would wish that is applicable to aluminum.
I won't belabor the point any further. As I said, I adapted how we grind a pad onto shotguns to reduce the LOP of my JAE and one day, if sufficiently motivated, I'll see if I can get a 100 Straight butt hdwr ground to my JAE butt profile. But, as said, I will then have to go to a 1/2" pad vice the 3/4" pad that I have ground to fit and that is on it now.
Take care and as always I very much appreciate MDT's engagement with their customer community on the Hide.
Cheers
