Howa + Jard trigger = 6-8oz pull..?

I dig the Howa, pretty much the only thing I wish for with it is a way to lighten the trigger a bit more. It's funny to whine about the trigger when the stocker is so good, and really almost the only thing better would be a TT Diamond, but...
I've got Gunbloke's Benchrest spring kit in it, and it's pretty freakin' nice at ~15oz, and I love the 2-stage goodness, but if I could easily get it to ~8oz without affecting reliability or feel negatively, I would.

There aren't many options, but it seems Jard makes a trigger for the Howa/Vanguard that can be ordered in the 6-8oz range which would be great. Anyone have experience with these? Reliable? Thoughts?

They're not expensive, but I'd just rather not be pulling my barreled action in and out of it's chassis, rechecking zeros, and generally fuckng around with it when my trigger is already fairly awesome and has been 100% reliable... is it worth messing with?

Thanks.

I wouldn't mess with it. I like my Howa with clipped spring. For a precision rifle, an 8 oz trigger is too light. If it's a bench gun, I guess you could go lighter.

I don't know about that, most of the top PRS/NRL guys are running 8oz or less...
Quantify "most" and "top".
Referencing the latest "what the pros use" articles on triggers, "Most" are running b/w 8oz & 15oz.

Nope. Don't need to quantify it. I'd prefer ~8oz, that's all that matters.

Besides, that article is 2 years old... and I bet lots of those 15oz guys are probably 8oz guys, lots of those 8oz guys are probably 4oz guys now.

Youd bet huh? Well, prove it.
If you know what you want why even bother asking for opinions.

Dude, who cares? I don't feel like I need to list off the pros I've talked with about what trigger weights they run.
Besides, this is from the article you cited, from 2 years ago: "60% of the shooters prefer to run their triggers between 0.5-0.9 pounds (8 to 15 ounces), including most of the guys in the top 10 in both leagues." so if the top guys are running a little heavier than I mentioned (by a few ounces), sorry.

I was asking for opinions on a Jard trigger for a Howa. I wasn't asking anyone's opinion about what they feel is an acceptable trigger weight.

You must be new here. The PRB articles are well received here, and that is the latest one on triggers. Very valid data in there.

As to who cares? Obviously you and I both care enough to keep replying.

Lemme know how the trigger works, I may be interested in getting one if I can't get the factory to go light enough.

Not for a Howa but bought one for a Savage. Bought the heavier one between the 13-18oz range and left it alone as I didn't want to go lighter. It's a hunting rifle, but put about 200 rounds through it for fun and I love the trigger. It is a single stage. No take up at all. Just breaks cleanly like my TT.

Thanks for the info, I probably would have been better off asking for general Jard trigger opinions vs Howa-specific.

I may try one, but I forgot the Jard's are single-stage, and I've grown to really like the Howa's two-stage a lot... I may just stick with what I've got.

I may be more on the fence now about going lighter too: I've been shooting my Carry Optics Shadow 2 w/ SRO (and full Cajun/CZ Custom fire control goodies) while waiting for my barrel to cool the last couple trips to the range... going back and forth with my rifle, its beautifully crisp sub-2lb single-action pull can almost feel heavy sometimes (it's totally not). So, for going back and forth between all the different guns I shoot, none of which have heavy triggers, my rifle trigger might be just fine.

On a side note: it's almost scary how easy it is to consistently ring a 6" steel plate off-hand at 100 yards with a nice pistol/red dot combo. I used to think 100 yards was "carbine distance". With the proliferation of dots on pistols, IDK if that's so true anymore.
