YouTube Channels

Ryan Cleckner, Garand Thumb are the main two that I consider as the best. When folks say Larry Vickers, I don’t care for video commentators who mostly talk about themselves all thorough their videos

If a SHTF situation arose and I was somehow forced to work with that guy to save America, I'd surrender and try my luck in the reeducation camps. Sorry, America.

Look I get the recommendations for Velayo, Vickers, 8541, Hickock etc. I respect your comments about your target audience hence the above channels. But if you really want to get this out in front of people you need a channel with a large subscriber base. Two previous posts have mentioned it but no response.
Demolition Ranch has 9.82 million subscribers. Even with only a one percent buy rate that’s nearly 100,00 buyers. No other channel mentioned compares. The kid running it is not a shill and would probably pair up nicely with Frank with several follow up vids.
Ok ready to be flamed😁

I know Garand Thumb got shot down early because he rarely touches bolt guns, but his MRAD video shows you can put a decent shooter/presenter with him and get some good views. The fact he isn't afraid to share flaws with weapon platforms gets him some bonus points with a lot of his viewers.

1% buy rate on a $6,900 rifle? That'd be the day.

Hi,

Because I suck at YouTube and leave video marketing and such to guys that do it for a living (Hence the reason of this thread, lol).
I run companies, build and develop for a living.

We need to resurrect Mr. Dugan Ashley as he represents what is possible, not just what everyone else is doing. 👍😜

They use SFP to get as much view as possible, this is probably why they do not use angulars, the reticle is never at the optimized zoom for measuring.
Where the reticle is has no bearing on field of view.

Cool, you are an ELR shooter too?

Do you mean your scope has the same FOV at max zoom? How much did it cost?

My scopes get much more FOV when I lessen the zoom. That turns into longer aiming distance.
What kind of system do you use when you shoot all the way out to 4k?

Eric Cortina, and Mark & Sam after work. In my opinion, a person’s ability to relate to others and communicate is very important to teaching others.
My children are now interested in shooting because they like the way Mark and Sam work together and want to work like that with me.

Dude, stop. Nobody cares. None of what you've droned on has any relevance to the issue at hand.
In the video I posted above around the 10 min mark he goes into a little bit about rebarreling a rifle in South Africa. Again this is about ownership not just a temporary import.

To get another barrel (say to swap from 308 to 6.5 CM or something like that it requires basically going through an entirely new licensing process (again for ownership). Which would be kind of like needing to replace a baffle in a suppressor here (in the US) but instead of mailing it to the manufacturer you have to go through the entire NFA process all over. That basically means you have to have a new license for the new barrel not just the complete firearm, which requires all sorts of things. I certainly love South Africa (lived there before) but those laws suck.

Lmao, just drop it. Just be aware that they use SFP which makes some things hard.

Hi,

Well to be honest nobody is "shooting" that far if the terms of shooting has anything remotely to do with consistency.

Sincerely,

4k was just for example. IMO it falls into shooting category but not necessarily under precision shooting.

One can shoot out to 4K just to see if the bullet is still flying straight, I am not the person to start questioniong what other people do and why they do it, as I cannot hold such scrutiny myself.

I think Ian could do an interesting video on the gun, certainly if the gun has some kind of out of ordinary specs or innovation which he could talk about.

For me the 9 hole reviews have maybe influenced me the most when it comes to comparing weapon systems.

I know this was already ruled out by mass, but I think Johnny's reloading bench could be tasked to make the best load for it. I do not reload myself (yet) but it is fun to watch the process of building the cartridge and watch them being spent. He can shoot too, at least adequately.
Watch the end of his MK262 series, you be the judge.

If SFP makes things hard, it would be advantageous to switch to a better system.

Makes using angular measurements hard because the reticle size does not change in relation to image.

First and foremost, they know about FFP scopes down there too and even own few but choose to use SFP for certain tasks for few reasons. It seems they have 2 videos on the subject, here is the newer one.

Most reasons being FOV and sharper reticle. They are valid points, I do not know which I would use but I am not going to make decisions like that any soon.

Just wanted to point out why they use target size as hit placement reference. They are not tactical shooters, they can use whatever they like. If you are not satisfied with it, grill them directly, I do not represent them.

Hell, go hate on the videos on YT where marine spotter reports "Little more higher". Every pair uses the language they like and is adequate for the job. I do endorse and use mils myself though.

Once again, which lens the reticle is etched on has no bearing on FOV.
They should use axe handles as their linear measurement to solve for their angular deviation.
Point being, they offer us nothing. They’re basically the opposite of everything we are. I would expect no less being that they’re upside down.

Once again, which lens the reticle is etched on has no bearing on FOV.
I assume you did not understand what I talked about nor did watch the video? Let's already drop this, if you want to continue the discussion, start a new thread. Maybe watch a part of the video first?

I don’t need to understand the point you’re attempting to make, because I understand how scopes and FOV work. Your point is moot.

The position of the reticle within the optical system has zero bearing on a particular scope's field of view.

Go get your knowledge from some place other than youtube.

Start a thread on your own and we'll discuss this. This thread is not a place to discuss why one youtuber uses SFP. Thanks to both of you for your ingenious replies, they were really insightful. It is always such fun to have discussions with you guys.

You brought up FOV being tied to the plane the reticle is in. You start a thread on it if you want.

How much does he charge to say what you want him to say?
A lot, from what I hear, but apparently it’s worth it, since there seems to be a lot of captivated viewers.

Hi,

Well since this thread has pretty much run its' course, lolol.

I have spent the past few days watching various videos from numerous "personalities" and there is pretty much 1 thing that they all have in common.....

Pretty much every single one of them need to read this link https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/bus...tcs-endorsement-guides-what-people-are-asking

Sincerely,

Exactly, seems to be common however when reviewing gun stuff to neglect to mention they got either the product for free, temporary use of it for free or received some other compensation.

I've noticed other YouTube review categories such as writing tips and such, on the more popular ones, they are super up front about saying that xxx is sponsored by... I'm guessing because they don't want to get fined.

Hi,

You know the old saying of "Stick to what you are good at", lol.....that definitely fits here!!

I have a speech issue (I stutter when I have to think of a word in English) that over the years my brain has just become better at typing what it thinks than speaking it.

Sincerely,
Theis

One work around to this would be to have someone else from Hoplite Arms be the "talking head" of the channel, maybe an engineer, gunsmith, heck even just paying someone else to be the "host" to highlight some of the features, demo live fire, etc. I think this is the best way to control the message. You could cut out all of the crap that fills a lot of youtuber videos.

Sending out your rifle to some of the above mentioned youtubers could still be the starting point, but ideally it would funnel them back to your own channel for either in-depth feature review or some of the behind the scenes stuff which is interesting and gets people excited about your products.

Hi,

Owning.............
Importation based on context of this thread...................

Slightly different definitions, lol

ALL that is required to temporarily import a firearm into ZA:
  • Valid passport
  • Return airline ticket
  • Letter of invitation from your hunting outfitter(s)
  • Completed SAP 520 Form (Not signed - must be signed in front of the official)
  • Proof of ownership (CBP Form 4457- Certificate of Registration for personal effects taken abroad)
  • Proof of export from country of origin (CBP Form 4457- Certificate of Registration for personal effects take abroad)

That is IT, PERIOD!!!

Sincerely,
Theis

And a clean covid test. 😉🤣🤣

Is that fake russian exploder guy still on youtube? That was about the last time I recognized a youtube channel personality.
