Genesis Ballistics Solutions--Android Now Available!!

Yes, that’s what makes Apple so much better than android in that capacity.

It’s also what makes them such a pain in the ass at times.

However I will say their security over all those tend to be pretty good and it tends to securely limit attempts to attack peoples devices.

I have had this app out to the range two different times now in slightly different weather conditions and it has been on both times. Not a full blown test analysis but it sure is encouraging at this point.

I have the track for my gun ammo combination then download the weather from Kestrel. I did check velocity both times out and put it in the correct temp range then let it calculate the drop and the wind. So far very accurate.

Hi,

Lots seem to be going on in the Bluetooth pairing world, lol.

The Kestrel bluetooth protocol has been followed and implemented to the "T" since there is essentially zero ways to shortcut the protocol from Kestrel.

The issues as you all may or may not know is that there is a lack of standard bluetooth stacks in the Android world coupled with whatever implementation not only a particular phone manufacturer has but also different implementations per models of phone.

That is clearly leading to some people having zero issues with pairing and others having particular issues.

Perfect example of the lack of standard bluetooth stacks........
There should no way anyone gets a Drop device to pair. The Drop devices have their own Bluetooth protocol from Kestrel and was not implemented into the Genesis protocols at all.

Genesis Ballistics Solutions only works with Kestrel 5XXX devices.

Sincerely,
Theis

Regarding Kestrel D3 Drop. It seems that the current firmware and BTLE stack for the D3 do allow Genesis to detect and list them.
However Genesis will crash if you select it.

My initial experience between them was with firmware 1.53 (which doesn't exist according to Kestrel documentation...) the D3 Drop was not visible in Genesis with that version.

Wish list item for me (and likely other D3 owners) is add the ability to pull data from them. Failing that some sort of filtering to prevent detection may be needed.

TIA

Hi,

Yes it will. For both the Android and iOS.

I have a LEMFO LEMT smartwatch on the way for us to see how things look and feel on its' small screen. I am hoping that functionality will not have to be diminished in order to get proper function on it.
That would make for a substantially cheaper competitor to the Garmin 701 systems.

Hi, just wondering if anything ever came of this? Would be an interesting option if it works :)

AFAIK only Kestrel devices are shown, any other BT device is filtered out of the available list because of protocol differences

Right, the problem here is the Drop D3 is a Kestrel product, but as relayed by THEIS the way it sends it's data differs from the 5xxx devices. Something clearly changed in a recent firmware update that allows the D3 to be discoverable in Genesis.

Hi,

I will get with Austin over at Kestrel and see what they updated on the D3; specifically if they are possibly migrating to the 5xxxx series protocols.
Not that I know enough about it to have a real conversation with him in regards to advanced details but I can talk enough to know whether it is something feasible enough to pass onto Gus, haha.

iOS version with all the previous "issues" needing resolved for iOS has been resubmitted to iOS development team as of last night.

Sincerely,
Theis

Does anybody know of a device that can run Genesis that's small like a Garmin 701?
What is the oldest Android that can be used?

Don't know of a small device that is usable yet.

Android 5.1 seems to be the oldest OS version that will run Genesis.

@THEIS
Not sure if this is intended behavior or not in the Targeting module.

Even with all permissions granted, all radios on and Location enabled it will not move off the default location even after clicking "Start GPS".

The only way I have found to make it pick up the current location is to fire up Google Maps and let it get a fix first then start Genesis.
I am not in the habit of leaving Maps, GPS and Location enabled unless I need them for privacy and battery life.

Any day now apple!!

Hi,

Nobody would believe the shit iOS app approval unit is giving us with this and that....

One of the product videos submitted to them to prove the actual application exists had a picture of something in the background that they kicked the app submission back to us for revision with resubmit instructions.

So we have been thinking on several things in regards to getting the Genesis Ballistics Solutions app in more hands and we have decided on the following:

While we wait for iOS.....

We are going to procure 4 or 5 Android phones, install Genesis on the phones and send the phones on a USA "Use & Ship" tour.

We are looking for people that can commit to conducting 3 or 4 thirty second to 1 minute video clips and images of them using Genesis along with written review back to us. We retain all rights to the videos, pictures and reviews for utilization as we see fit.

We are looking at sending the phones to the public for 2-3 week durations each and then we will send shipping label for where you send the phone to next.

contact (at) genesisballistics.com if you have any questions or you are able to meet the above criteria.

Sincerely,
Theis

It's a real shame Apple is choosing to be this obtuse about a simple app that does the same thing many other apps do, when they have tons of almost full on scam apps they allow on their "store".

For all those going on about how much better iPhones are over Android phones....
Sure, right up until you want to do an app that the fruit cult overlords are not too keen on...

Good luck sideloading apps to your iJesus phone....

As problematic as Android is, at least you can put things you want on it without waiting for the blessing of the cult of the fruity ones.

It's a protocol, like a .mil contract, and the 'scam' apps have it down. BTW, there's been a lot of complaining by legitimate app makers about the 'scam' apps and supposedly APL is working on it now. Maybe why this app is still awaiting approval. Good news is they sent it back with "instructions" which sounds like they're almost there. And once on, we'll long forget the wait for iOS version. But still waiting. 😁

Damn, I’ll give it a few more weeks, but it looks like it’s time to get rid of my iPhone!

Hi,

Except each time we have complied and fixed per their instructions and resubmit for approval they send another set of instructions for something that was not an issue the first 5 times, lolol

So sorry to see this! I was so looking forward to trying out the IOS app after seeing so much written about the accuracy of this solver.

Are you able to talk about why ? Insolvency, lack of community interest so investors pulled out, you could not get apple approval so decided to cut ties, etc ?? Guess I have yet another icon on this device which will not get used.

Either way, thank you for trying.

You know the basic solver would have been worth the money, without all of the targeting and mapping which seemed to complicate the program. It's a shame you got this close and had to pull the plug. Any thoughts on selling this program to a third party?

Hi,

FWIW:

1. The dissolution reasonings are not caused by the difficulty of the programming.
2. The dissolution reasonings are not caused from Capital resources lacking; as all of that was "in-house".
3. Anyone with a serious offer to purchase (40% owned by Hoplite Arms) please send me over a PM with terms and conditions of offer and we will take it under advisement.
4. In regards to refunds:
The product you have on your device is one of if not the best Ballistics Solvers on the market today. If it is currently working as designed there is no issue of payment for viable product.

If you are having issues with accuracy of the solution or functionality please forward all questions to the supplied contact so they can be remedied.

In addition as inter company processes are occurring the app will not "stop working day 1". The app will continue to function correctly until operating system upgrades performed by the owner of the device exceed the original programming parameters.

Sincerely,
Theis

Very sad to hear this. Since truing this app to my ballistics my last 2 outings provided 1st rnd hits @ nearly a mile. I hope it continues to function for a long time.

i actually still have a old phone with certain apps on it which i dont update just for the reason the app developer has stopped updating or vanished

not knowing what the threshold of updating is i just grab that one when i want to use a app

old phones arent worth anything anyway so im not loosing money

plus if you turn one in the memory never wiped totally clean (even hillary couldnt lol) so some of your info is still on that "resale" phone

for shooting in general we should use old phones so its not a brand new one that gets dropped in the mud...i do

So sad to hear there won't be iOS version coming... I have Cold Bore on an old windows phone but dislike the old phone.

I disagree with your reasoning that you if the program is working currently you have a viable product therefore not entitled to a refund. I think that everyone who bought it did so with the expectation that the company would persist, updates made ect.

I highly doubt you would of sold 1 if you had said. We are releasing the best ballistic solver on the market but in a few weeks will be dissolving the company and one day when you upgrade your operating system it won't work anymore. I wouldn't buy an iPhone today if i new apple was dissolving next week.

Sit happens its not a great amount of money but I disagree with that logic. I would of just said unfortunately no refunds will be offered.

not being on the inside but for some reason i doubt Genesis Ballistic Solutions purposely chose to "steal your money and run" upon initial roll out

using you Iphone analogy...you will never buy another product again because the company has not told you their business plan for X amount of time after purchase

i actually like the wording because it explains to current customer what they can expect going forward

much preferred to a one word Y or N post with no expectations, and more transparent than most

but thats just me

I tried my hardest to make it work, did a few small videos on it for helping others. I still use strelok. It's faster and spits out a result faster.

When you are hungry, often you can't be bothered cooking a full meal. Meat and potatoes, side of slaw or salad, garlic break, and a nice cooked apple crumble for desert. Sometimes you say "fuk it" and go to a drive-thru take away burger joint and have a beer and chill out.

Apps are the same. Often I don't mind getting into it, setting things up, verifying, etc. I will make comment that often I want to click an app, then enter a number and immediately get a result. 12+ clicks to get an output is super frustrating.

I'm coming from Shooter which hasn't been supported for years already, prior to that I was using Applied Ballistics which I gave up on after they decided to dump my data during one of their "upgrades". I got tired of tuning them every month so they were accurate, could just be me but I was never very confident that they were going to be truly on target.

I have seen updates cause more problems than not updating has done

It’s sad, but it was’t a feature, it was a bug, one that was not predicted, so the idea this rates a refund is weird

It is a great program, solid, worth the install for those who use software on their phones

Still phone software is often not as serious as other platforms, but every now and then you have a solid app.

I like the parties involved, sad it didn’t work, but that is not grounds to start a problem as an individual, That is silly, like the guys asking for their PX refunds because 2 years ago they bought 101 posts vs taking the time to apply them manually to their accounts.

I have run software on various devices that were never updated again, works fine for me when necessary, I do it with programs all the time

I'm not against genesis. I'm glad I have it. For ELR (2000m+) it's a solid option. I'm happy to spend the time, get everything as close to perfect as I can. When I'm shooting for fun on private property, and have the ability to take a few shots, stop, evaluate, check that dope VS my output, etc. It helps me learn and record data for the next shot.

I consider myself lucky that I have this portable app which is feature rich, rather than taking a laptop or printed paper.

We’ve been here before with Patagonia Loadbase and their unwillingness to provide support or upgrades after they decided to shut that one down too. This is exactly the reason I chose to wait and see how this played out. They have phenomenal software but have never displayed loyalty or support.

Just remember who is behind this when they come trying to sell you a dream product the next time.

Well I was patiently awaiting a series on "How To" for the app, instead of fumbling in the dark. Glad some of you are able to get it working as designed. I'll just have to start fumbling and see if I can get this to line up with 4DOF at least and then see how we do.
