The speed with which the Afghan military was over-run is a testament to the fact that we should have left there about 18 years and a trillion dollars ago. Invading nations have tried to conquer and hold Afghanistan for thousands of years ... all unsuccessfully. Staying there would have only made a futile situation more costly, and further delayed the inevitable outcome that we're seeing now. Whether leaving slowly over years, or quickly over weeks, the end-state wasn't going to change. I say ... rip off the bandage and get the hell out of there. If they do something that risks our safety down the road, bomb the shit out of them from a carrier or remote air base. The mistake Biden made wasn't leaving Afghanistan ... it was not predicting this outcome and preparing the world for a quick Taliban takeover.
From what ive read, the Chinese dont want the taliban anymore than the afghan people. It poses a security risk to their activities against Muslims inside their own borders.

Likely not the case on both counts, its quite obvious that the Taliban enjoy considerable support in the populace (no necessarily the urban one) , the Chinese have no interest in Afghan politics, if the Taliban can maintain the security and business as usual then they are the preferred partners , Chinese are pragmatic in their aproach. Of course, the whole neighborhood is on edge but its very likely that the Taliban will not bother anyone outside Afghanistan.
