Before you take part in a purchase or sale, check the feedback section of the buyer or seller's profile to see feedback from previous experiences with that user. Member profile>Feedback Stats. If a user doesn't have much feedback, proceed at your own risk. If you do complete a purchase, do everyone else a favor and add your own feedback for that user which is also done from the user's profile.

I’ve seen on several forums where accounts are getting hacked as well. They look for members with a good reputation and post items under their names.
This happened with a moderator account recently. This is why calling people, getting copies of up to date drivers license, and asking for photos with the screen name of the seller and date in the photo are other good items to insure a solid transaction.

always have had great transactions but be sure to protect yourself

there also new sites that will hold money in transactions till both parties are satisfied

Not to over simplify things, but would dramatically upping the password length and feature requirements help more?

Yes. It will deter a lot of attempting hackers but also being careful with what you click online, especially email, and keeping your passwords unpredictable throughout any of your online accounts (don't use same passwords for each of your accounts) would be just as important.

However, it is most important to have "Two-step verification" enabled from your "Password and security" section in "Your account." Doing so will have the most effective protection, especially from those that may successfully enter with the correct password. They'd have to get a temporary code from you to log in at that point.

Scammers give each other feedback.

If any sketchy ness, ask for a picture of their Id with the item. Google the name and address. Make sure it looks legit. Send payment to that address

It seems the more you ask the seller to do the less chance it is a scam unless they are unwilling to comply. If they won't comply then it is probably a scam.

Just had a guy on here trying to sell a Gap rifle 223 bolt. No reviews and sent me the address which after searching was a trailer park. Anyone have any dealings with this guy. Pictures attached. Just wanted a picture of him holding the gun. Nothing too bad.

I looked for one of the five posts he shows having, but search brought up nothing. Definitely a scammer, it appears.

It's a rather familiar pattern. Next he'll be answering someone's WTB ad with exactly what that person was looking for. Wouldn't surprise me if JKM10 from the Arcterex thread is his partner. I hope others are paying attention.

what are those sites?

I was going to buy Sierra 6mm 110 MK off someone here who had a high rating . Typed email at paypal and was kicked back saying "Can't find this email " I called the cell# provided and it was disconnected .

Hey guys is it normal for a FS thread to disappear? I posted on his FS thread and he did respond to my PM. But for some reasons his FS thread is gone after I made payment. I search under his name for thread that he posted and it’s not there. I see his other FS threads but not that one specifically. I search under my name for threads that I posted on and can’t find this thread either. Paid him couple days ago he responded that it will get shipped out today. He’s got some feedback dating back a few years so I wasn’t too concern, but the fact the FS thread is gone is somewhat wierd. Should I be concern? I did send a PM to lowlight but haven’t heard back yet. Any thoughts on this?

This person responded saying try again ,but on 2nd thought the deal I feel is to good to be true .

If there are odd triggers as you have encountered there are things you can do
Have seller give pic of drivers license
Ask for “ hostage pic “of rifle with today’s patter or anything you want on a piece of paper
Offer to Send payment to address on drivers license only

Yeah be careful with just the drivers license my scammer had a license and a address in a trailer park. Make them take a picture holding there license and then Google earth the address.

Bingo! He offered me exactly what I am looking for and sent photos that appear to be cut and paste.

Are you saying Dagun answered your WTB ad? Up to five inane posts. Scammer most certainly. Please report him immediately.

Got another guy who goes by the handle "Mattgrips" giving me a heads up on the same item Dagun offered up. Got an email from the Hide saying he started a conversation with me but nothing in my thread or in my messages. Just an email.

I reported Dagun as a suspected scammer. Not sure what to do about Mattgrips. Can't find his info on the forum.

Likely our moderators identified him as a scammer and he's gone. Man, those WTB ads sure attract the crooks, don't they? Could use them as scammer bait.

Mattgrips sent me a pm stating he had a buddy that was looking to sell a Trijicon TA44 I was looking for. Gave me his email and contacted him. We engaged in a conversation and agreed on a price after sending pics. He asked for payment through Zelle and I requested PayPal. He sent me an address that did not work so I asked for a different one and same thing happened as PayPal would not process it (thankfully).

I sent money to another person without any issues and he sent me a third email, said he didn't have a PayPal account but they were all family members that did. Tried sending it again and still would not go through. I started thinking something was up and wanted to check out Mattgrips on the Hide and our conversation is gone.

That was so obviously a scam. It met every criteria for being a shady deal, as they always start with "a friend has exactly what you're looking for". It's simply amazing you were lucky enough to keep your money, though not for lack of trying.

Yup I tried real hard to lose money on it. Lesson learned.

Hey guys I'm a new user to this site and was hoping for some feedback on a situation. I was doing a Google search and came across a posting on this site for the item I was looking for. Long story short, the guy only wants bitcoin (unrecoverable if item is not sent to me) or PayPal "send to friends or family" option (also unrecoverable if item is not sent). I told him I would be willing to use PayPal but only if I could use their "purchasing an item" option so I would be protected under their purchase protection policy and would be able to file a claim if the item was never received etc.. The seller only has 1 positive feedback which isn't much better than none, considering how he could just make a burner account to give himself positive feedback.
Here is how our conversation went :

If it doesn't feel right, walk away. Most sellers on here are accommodating so if you hit a snag it's probably a scam. Also, Paypal will not protect you if buying guns or gun related items.

Cool thanks for the feedback! The seller said the same thing about PayPals' policy but I figured if he was willing to tell paypal he was receiving the money from "friends or family" then he wouldn't mind telling them he was selling something that isn't gun related, like just saying it was some electronics or whatever. But you're right, it just doesn't feel right when it would be so easy for him to receive the money and not send the package leaving me with no real way to hold him accountable. He was trying to use my new user status against me by telling me I should learn how things work on this site and because I have no post history that somehow using a payment method where he can't be held accountable for not sending the package, was some how protecting himself from a new user like myself.

I see you've blocked out the sellers name. It does sound like a scam. If you won't tell us who it is, at least report it and perhaps the moderators will check it out.

I didn't want to out the seller publicly in case it violated these rules :
Do not post anything unnecessary or harmful on another person's ad. For example, do mention that you were able to get your item for $100 cheaper or that you “think” their item may be fake or faulty. Any information of this nature should be sent to the seller via private message. If you identify an item that is a fake or cloned, private message the seller with that information. If the ad is not modified after alerting the seller, report the ad to a moderator.

Oh, I understand why you wouldn't want to mention the name. However, if you report this to a mod, he might be able to look for other clues, like a inane post history or a Nigerian IP, and rid us of another scammer.

He seems like a regular user of this site, says he made his account in 2018, but only 1 feedback rating. He just seemed too adamant about only using an unaccountable form of payment and would be too easy for him to just not send the package and leave me with no way to get my money back. I just wanted to see what other users might have done givin the situation. But I guess it couldn't hurt to have a mod check it out. Thanks for your feedback

trust your gut, while previous methods may work to verify the authenticity of a seller/buyer take the extra steps to ensure your own security. I and others got hit with the Khuber account and it's truly frustrating and aggravating.
