Mack Bro’s SS Evo

Just a note if you have one of these. My set screw that holds the firing pin backed out. Just a drop on the top screw will make sure that doesn't happen to you.

We’ll see how long it takes em to ship. Placed my back order today later than I had planned on due to work but had emailed requesting a few SS actions months ago.

I think I'm going to backorder one of these... but still wondering about the tenon/threading? - as it's still a no-go for me if they're sticking with a proprietary tenon/thread that nobody is already making prefits for.
Anyone know if it's been changed?

If they're going to work with Remage or Savage prefits... pretty hard to resist buying.
The issue was with the bolt not the tenon thread. I believe they will be shipping new actions with a revised bolt that will make them remage barrel compatible. I have sent my action back to have them replace the bolt so that I have that option.

Well, whether the tenon thread or the bolt, either way I hope they're now compatible with normal/standard Remage prefits. It's a deal-breaker to me.

I already own an affordable action that's better in every way than a standard R700-type except for it's proprietary tenon thread: it's called a Howa 1500 lol.

I emailed last week looking for an update on an October order; supposedly it's in the mail this week. I hope it is! I'm excited for it

I emailed a couple days ago asking about what tenon thread they're using for the action (would like to know what it is before I place an order)... no reply/response.

I emailed them with my order number and got a reply.
As I posted before, I’ve got Ti actions from them in the past,
And asked for these a while ago. So I was prob at the near top
Of the list.
I figured it was too good to be true!

From my understanding the gen 1 actions were made with the bolt .0015" longer than factory as Mack Bros didn't want people to think it was a direct swap action for an existing barrel. The Gen. 2's are designed to work with remage barrels and the bolts are standard length.

In regards to ordering, there was a wait list prior to this batch being done. Those wait listed were being shipped first and then what ever was left will be sold i would imagine first come first serve.

i had 2 on the wait list and paid my invoice yesterday and hoping they ship out today!

Picked mine up from my LGS today. One will be a 300 wsm and I’m not sure about what to do with the .308 bolt face yet. I haven’t checked yet but mine appear to be the old bolt dimensions but they won’t be remages so it doesn’t matter to me.

Just got a call from my LGS saying my action was in. Never got tracking information but I'll take it. Now just to get the rest of the components....

Can one of you guys who receive one of these post some pics (there aren't many out there) and share info on whether the barrel tenon is standard Remage or proprietary..?

Also, FWIW, it's been over a week and I still haven't received a reply to my inquiry with Mack Bros...

They answer the phone and answer any questions you might have. To answer your question, I have a standard and a mag bolt face and both of mine are the old style bolt. They simply require 15 thou off the tenon end of the barrel to clear the bolt for a remage setup.

They've never answered when I've called (3x).

Nothing simple at all about taking off 15 thou unless one owns their own lathe, and being reliant on a 'smith to change a barrel is so 2017 lol... it's a deal-breaker.

I agree if I was looking to do a remage it would be a pass for me as well. The new gens should fit a standard remage tenon.

Not sure I'll be able to comment on the tenon, but like Whhood said it seems that these current ones still need the 15 thou removed.

Will post some pictures after I pick it up later today!

In early January, they told me it would be the 2nd or 3rd quarter before they shipped the actions with the updated bolt dimensions to better accept prefits.

Here are some pictures, I just took some general ones, if you wants something more specific just let me know. I've also included a picture of the tenon spec that was sent with the action, I'm still fairly new to this so I won't comment on remage or prefit compatibility as I have zero idea on what the specs need to be for that compatibility.

Awesome job on the pics. You went far beyond what I expected: thanks.

Looks like the tenon length is different from the print shown for their Ti action... I'm no expert at this machinist stuff, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable about what standard Remington/Remage specs actually are can chime in..?

What's the bolt lift like? Do they offer negative hangers to eliminate cock on close?
I'll preface this by saying I'm a novice to the custom world so take my words with a grain on salt. It seems like a little more effort to open the bolt than something like a tikka, but this could be that my handling of most rifles include the stock but I don't have one yet for the Evo. Overall pretty smooth, which seems to be from the coating on the bolt, which unfortunately seems to come off fairly easily.

Through my limited knowledge I believe it is cock on open? Maybe I am misunderstanding.

For both these questions, hopefully someone more knowledgeable can step in to expand on my answer...

Every action feels heavy to lift open outside of a stock unfortunately. Tikkas have heavy felt lift due to their 70° action and short bolt handle.
Most actions are cock on open, but if your trigger is out of time with the cocking piece, it will make the action over cock upon closing the bolt. Hangers can adjust trigger position in relation the the cocking piece to eliminate most or all of this.
That makes more sense, thanks for the mini lesson. There was nothing in the documentation that I received with it that would seem to suggest alternate hangers, but back in this thread someone seems to have talked to them and they said they would offer different hangers. Something to reach out to them about I suppose. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

So mine measured a little long but we documented it so any smith could spin me a "prefit" and I could put it on myself. At that point it's the same price as a standard prefit

What are you referring to that measured long

Sorry, should have more helpful. The barrel tenon measures a little long, I don't remember how much but now that it's measured I can order a barrel and have it shipped to my house.

Measures long compared to what? What action do you have and what are you comparing to? I have an old and new standard and mag. Mine measure the same. I’m trying to figure out what changes have been made.

Basically, anyone know if they now will accept an "off the shelf" Remage barrel nut setup..?

No skim cut for the lugs or tenon bottoming out against the action. No special accommodations. Just buy an average Remage prefit barrel anywhere, screw it on/headspace, shoot..?

Great pics!!! I like the recoil lug to receiver interface, first time I’ve seen/noticed that.

I ordered two that shipped out last week and their office confirmed this morning that they are remage compatible.

Yes @FredIII that question was for you. I have a couple but mine look darker and rougher than yours. It could just be the pic though. Thanks

I'd like to lay my grubby paws on one before I buy. I'm hoping some one will have one at Precision Rifle Expo next month.
I have a couple Tikkas, Id like to make sure it's an upgrade before switching action platforms.

I highly doubt you would be disappointed with the Evo actions, definite upgrade to a factory tikka.

i purchased one recently and had Deep South Tatical attach it to Shilen barrel for a 6.5 Sherman Super Short, (super impressed with their work BTW) haven't gotten into a chassis yet, but really impressed. Beautiful finish, smooth as glass just working it. I've got 3 Impacts 737's and don't know as i'll see a drop off with this EVO action. Only drawback, no ready made spin on barrels like Impact has.
