ZEISS Presents All-New LRP S5 - FFP Riflescopes for Long-Range Precision Shooting and Hunting

Got one a couple days ago in 3.6-18x50 and I like it a lot. The resolution and clarity of the glass is very good.

I dont really care if the turrets are big, its going on a hefty gamer gun so who cares.

I find that the turrets aren't THAT big. If you're used to the S&B classic turret, the Zeiss ones are not crazy tall... Yeah, the elevation turret is a bit tall, but not awful.

One of the things that's wild is that the illumination is CRAZY adjustable. It's able to get painfully bright, and super low.

Reticle lines are nice and thin... and interestingly appear to be a little translucent (not deep black), at least on first play without mounting it.

I do prefer the separate parallax and illumination dials, but this is functional.

5-25x56 S5 Arrived today, and the glass is very clean.

I'll need to mount it and give it a whirl...

Looking forward to your thoughts. I own both the pmiis you are using as a baseline, and I’m damn tempted to get the zeiss 5-25.

MK Machining still has the black friday special going

I probably sure, waiting to see if I can snag a demo.

I do like the locking thirds on the current PM II… I picked up three scope this month and it was a little pricey…

2 x 5-25x56 PM IIs ( Schmidt Bender PM II 5-25x56 DT II+ MTC LT / ST II ZC LT Tremor3 .1 mrad Riflescope 677-911-552-L7-I5 )
1 x 5-25x56 S5

I will tell you that I like the three position locking thumb button on the new Schmidts… locked-mtc-no mtc.

The S5 actually has its own version of mtc (more tactile clicks) on every full mil. It’s nice.

I’ve got more glass than I can imagine.

"Anxiously waiting for mine."...

You might already have something like this in hand, but while you're waiting...

This stuff is also from Zeiss, gently gets off dust/dirt/fingerprints/smudges, w/o wearing down the coating, and is the only thing I trust cleaning on ,my optics, and will last 4 yrs and yrs... google around for the best price.

These are pre-moistened pads 225 count as an alternative, where you can have/take a few in your pocket if you're out in the boondocks

Again, you may already have something like this, so good luck w/your new scope.

I honestly don't have any cleaning supplies. I have a box of alcohol wipes that say are for lens, screens, etc but nothing super fancy for lenses themselves.

Forgive me, I sure didn't mean to suggest this as the only alternative, just throwing out a possible alternative if you ever consider it, I'm sure what you have will work for you, and again congratulations on you getting your new riflescope.

Agreed, obsessive cleaning can be almost as bad as not cleaning at all.

"a speck of dust here, a speck there" on the front/back elements, doesn't mean bust out w/the cleaning supplies, but when there's something appreciable that mounts up on the glass, then clean it.

I was always scared to death to clean my lovely PM II back when I was 'working'. I'd blow the specks/dust off using a bubble syringe....just light air caressing those beautiful lenses.

I’m gonna see if the spotting scope video camera will take 4K video through this bad boy….

I have a 525 on the way. If the testing info that Zeiss puts on its promo materials is accurate these will also be tough optics. I really think some people are thinking Zeiss is completely new to the optics world. It's just a new product. People took a gamble on ZCO when they came out and that optic is a home run.
From the little time that I had behind the scope, I will be absolutely shocked if ANYONE has any complaints with the glass, regardless of what it's being compared to. The turrets aren't as good as some of the other top tier but the reticle and glass are absolutely top tier.

Seriously, do people think that PRS is a dominate force in the firearms industry? I think @308pirate is right that the Fud market easily outspends our side of the house by a wide amount.

My only real hang up with this optic is the height of the elevation turret. It almost looks like it may be taller (for sure more girthy) than a Beast or MK 8. Does anyone have any comparisons?
There's zero doubt about it. We are a small part of the total rifle and scope market share, though we all tend to think that we are the center of the universe with this stuff (myself included). Reality is that we are not, and it's not close.

We’re gonna worry about image quality and compare the glass on several different scopes. We can worry about groups later.

Also will need to verify the tracking on the scopes…. Good thing Frank and Mark got me that Sniper’s Hide limited edition scope tracking base back! I don’t recall who made those for them but that thing is just fantastic… got a love a overrun production!

$450 smackaroos.

Had the opportunity to take the scope for a spin and compare it to two Schmidt’s….

Glass on all three are pretty much undistinguishable at 100 yards.

Damn sun went away just as I was taking.

Sweet scopes, I recently sold my ultra bright and have some regrets. It appears the zeiss has an ultra forgiving eye box, do you agree? Any thoughts on the zeiss compared to the pmii 5-25? How would you compare low light performance of the zeiss to the ultra bright? Lastly, I consider the pmii 5-25 to be the best overall optic I’ve owned, if you compare the zeiss and the pmii 5-25 against a more diverse back ground such as the tree line, which optics gives overall better clarity/ resolution? Thanks!

which 5-25?

Yep pmii, not to change topics but you can routinely get the pmii for 2200. Best scope bargain out there. I update the original post to make more sense…

PM II for 2200....I'm assuming you're talking about the used market....routinely? I haven't been able to find one at that price.

Yep used market. Got one on eBay recently for 2k buy now, and just snagged another off of GB for 2200.

All dependent on which turrets, reticle & condition from what I’ve seen, but that’s neither here nor there.

Let’s keep the pictures and first hand impressions on the Zeiss LRP coming.

What mount (MOA/MRAD taper) is going to allow the 140 MOA travel to be utilized and not partly wasted? Seems like the Spuhr 44.4 MOA will still waste almost 30 MOA

OK, so the interesting thing about the scope is that yes publications are almost exactly the same as the Schmidt and bender PM II.

The glass reminds me of the ultra clear series, but it’s very difficult to do apples to apples because I only have a 4–16x56 ultra clear.

I relief and eye box were exactly the same on the S5 as they are on the Schmidt and bender.

The primary difference is the amount of adjustment available in the scope, which is significantly more.

What we need are pictures at significant distance to determine who has better glass / coatings.

I think I can pull that off today. We have a place at the range where I can get distance view points.

ARC 34mm 1.25” 60 MOA M-Brace.
What rig is that on that a 1.26” mount allows the bell/obj to cleare whatever is up front? Seems like it would not allow enough clearance for an extended pic rail up ahead of the receiver. Have any pics?

Just mentioning it exists. Obviously won’t clear with a railed forend even before adding that much inclination.

Yeah sucks they don’t make the 60 MOA in a 1.5”/38 mm. The 61.8 MOA Spuhr is 1.73” tall!

What’s interesting is the pictures on posting or not coming in as clean as they actually are on the phone itself. So the compressions kind of screwing up the clarity of the pictures…
