New record Tri-State tornado 12/10/2021
Some storm chasers active in the area were able to document the massive sustained F5 vortex which started in Arkansas, going through Missouri and then devastating Mayfield, KY. Official track of this single system is listed now as 227 miles without breaking. Winds sustained F5 at 299-319mph with multiple vortexes possibly producing even higher rotation.
Prayers to all of those affected. The recovery effort in the storm track is going to be astronomical.

Constant lightning was able to present the entire storm structure even in the darkness of night. The storm is nearly identical in intensity and structure to the El Reno, Oklahoma storm of May 31, 2013 which had produced the widest tornado on record at 2.6 miles wide with 350mph rotation and had briefly put Oklahoma City into the status of a tornado emergency when the parent cell passed by at 7:45pm. Chasers in Hayti (MO) and Mayfield who were caught in the RFD (rear flank downdraft) behind the tornado documented straight line winds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

@Blue Sky Country, where you finding this info? I'm looking but this is what I'm able to find on NOAA showing preliminary size only. News I find shows EF3 in size.

The video made by the chasers were documenting the conditions on the highways as they pursued the tornado. Semis flipped, cars pushed off the road by downdraft winds alone. The E system of rating is confusing to a lot of people because it rates tornadoes based on visible damage. The main thread on Arfcom had people following this thing when it moved out of Arkansas and it's max winds were much higher, possibly due to multiple vortexes...

ETA: El Reno had been "officially" listed as an EF3 since most of it's track occurred over open fields and farmland, but it is still listed as producing the highest documented wind speed recorded.
