Gunsmithing What lathe for the home gunsmith?

A couple of things to keep in mind. 1) the tooling is going to cost more than the machine. Start slow. 2) To all the folks saying old American iron. Where are you going to get parts? I have a 14" Logan, 1963. Owned by two hobbyists. absolutely perfect. And you can still get parts from...

Thanks for the info. My doc a year or so back said I had the beginnings of a cataract (God, does this aging crap get any better?) He said about 10 years till it was a problem but better go back and ask in regards to LASIK. I won't be able to blame the glasses anymore but have a floater or two...

Rifle Scopes Old eyes, want LASIK, Seeing through a scope

My eyes are mature...OK, old. I wear bi-focal contacts and reading glasses too if the light is dim. I'm thinking about getting LASIK. I realize I'll have to use reading glasses. Question is, will I be able to use my scope without glasses? Chris

Why no Remington 700 in .22LR? (not 40-X)

Nothing like taking 2 years to answer this but "no" the dimensions aren't even close. Standard 700 has its lugs at the nose of the bolt. A 40-X has its lugs half way back. No way to interchange.

    AR 22 conversion?

Its a matter of opinion. What do you want? Identical feel to your AR with best possible accuracy? Go with a dedicated upper. I bought barrels from a guy named Khrul and put them together. He's out of business now but there are others who make barrels and conversion assemblies. 1:16 is the...

    Gunsmithing Gunsmith for 6.5x47 Lapua

Check Clay Spencer. Spencer Rifle Barrels Scotsville, VA. Built a real tack driver for me. His barrels are out of this world, actually ours as he specializes in 1,000 yd bench rest rifles. Provide the action, bottom metal, and stock and he'll turn around in 6 weeks or so.

    Rem 700 Trigger suggestions

I'm shooting a Rem 700 in 6.5 Lapua in a dusty environment. It currently has a Jewell trigger. The dust isn't as powdery as in the Sandbox but fine none the less. At the end of the day, last round, squeeze the trigger...and nothing. It doesn't even feel like the sear cocked. I did some...
