    Gewehr 98 action

The 7.92x57 cartridge it was designed to hold has an overall length of 82mm...about 3.22”. You need to select a cartridge as close to that length as possible or modify the action. It all depends how far down the rabbit hole you are willing to go.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Show Off Your Double Action Revolvers

Went to a local shop to arrange for a transfer and saw this 686 no lock PPC built by George Wessinger. Was able to pick it up for the price of the Aristocrat sight and barrel alone. DA trigger is sweet.

    How'd I do?

Agreed. As a youngster I tried restoring guns to their original type parts...after completion and doing the math, I just focused on buying original rifles. As pmclaine said, an application of raw linseed oil will remove accumulated grime out of the pores of the wood. Your wood looks really nice...

    How'd I do?

I would leave the stock as is...the finish on the stock is decent tand the dings are part of it’s history. Rub in some raw linseed oil and call it good. Steaming the stock will raise some of the dent, but it will always be dented...then you will need to sand. That stock is in decent shape, I...

I need a hand with this Springfield 1903, please

Yup...look at the OP’s bolt handle. Bent like an 03A4...completely incorrect for an ‘03 Sniper and would need to be replaced with an as issued M1903 bolt. The OPs bolt is bent to resemble this:

I need a hand with this Springfield 1903, please

Only the M1903A4 had a bent bolt handle...to make a repro M1903 sniper a bent bolt handle is something that needs to be replaced. The costs I stated are accurate and reflects current pricing. ETA- every WW2 era sniper rifle was equipped with iron sights...except for the 03A3...replicas of...

I need a hand with this Springfield 1903, please

That is a loaded question. Can you elaborate as to what you want? Original Remingtons can be found, prices are all over the place. The two British Purchasing Commission rifle in my photo were about $2K each. When I started collecting, you could walk out of a gunshow with a pair of 1903s for...

    Gewehr 98 action

The easiest answer is 7x57 or 8x57. .257 Roberts, as a derivative of 7x57, should work as well.

How were '03 and Garand barrels rifled?

They used a Pratt and Whitney Grasshopper. The two scraping cutters were held in a rifling rod. The operation (Operation 27) and tool drawing/ dimensions/ specifications are all in Colvin and Viall’s work noted above...that data actually was the technical design package provided from Springfield...
