Re: Action screw torque specs for Rem 5R & Order The only direction you should turn those junk arsed bolts is counterclockwise. Once they fall out, leave them on the ground where they fall. Now go get some high quality bolts. Yes, I know exactly what kind of bolts aftermarket bottom metal...
Re: USMC Knife Doctrine Yea, it's kind of redundant to teach knife fighting to the highest trained marksmen in the US military. I was in a long time before KJDrake was and can tell ya that the giant q-tip in boot was as close to knife fighting training as it got.
Re: .300 winchester magnum worth building up? Since the US military is moving thier precision rifles from 308 to 300winmag, I'd say it's probably fairly popular Be careful that the bore isn't shot out, not uncommon on a 300WM. From all the ones I've tinkered with, they seem to only like...
Re: 308 reamer? The dies are also a much harder alloy and *probably* every bit as hard as the reamer. Barrel steel is intentionally not so hard since that hardness would make it brittle and incapable of witholding the pressures of firing a round. Why not go the easy route and use cartridge...
Re: quality sleeping bag You'll always be cold if you sleep on the ground...no matter the bag. Get a good inflatable pad, the thicker the better. Since it will insulate you from the ground cold you don't have to go so extreme on bag ratings. I think I have 5 or 6 bags from overkill to not...
Re: Would you be satisfied with this 100yd Zero? Never trust a boresighter, they just aren't able to do more than a very rough ballpark. Paste a 1" flourescent target dot about 25 yards away, clamp the weapon in something so it won't move and aim thru the bore to center the dot in the bore...
Re: Broke an action screw today. That is exactly what you don't want to do (use heavy wires). A 10 or 12 awg will be sufficient, a 14 might work but will get hot too quickly and probably melt down the insulation. The wires will not get hot immediately, it takes a few seconds for that to...
Re: Broke an action screw today. Take a pair of small jumper wires and a 12VDC car battery. Ground the rifle, or jump to the - post. Take the + jumper wire and hook to a small screw or bolt (smaller diameter than the action bolt that broke). Touch the screw/bolt connected to the + wire to the...
Re: Pait removal Water is the solvent for brake fluid (hygroscopic and all that). I would strongly suggest not using it, it fuxorz everything in a quick hurry. Wurth (brand) makes a *rubber* wheel you put in a drill that will remove any paint and not scratch a thing...and it smells...
Re: Switching calibers You can go with a 338/378 Weatherby which will outdo (slightly) a 338 Lapua....for less money. A very overlooked round is the 340 Weatherby, give it a look. Any of the ultra mags (300-338-375) are capable of some serious punch, at both ends of the rifle A 7mm rem mag...
