Now that you mention it, this does sound familiar. My days as an Alfa mechanic were long ago, so a few things have slipped my mind. Alfa did make a lot of variations over the years, so it is very possible.

That's what they call the Hellcat engines. The Gen II hemis were called elephants because the heads were so wide, so they call the Gen III hemi in the Hellcats hellephants.

I worked on one in London in 92. They (Alfa) made a bunch for rallying, with alloy panels and plastic glass, stripped interior etc.
Not many have survived, they tended to break when pushed too hard.
Which is a shame, because they were just gorgeous.
