Barrel Torque Ludicrocity

We have been importing TacOps rifles for many many years. They have all shot amazingly in the zeros with factory ammo. My personal rifle after thousands of rounds through the barrel it was time to rebarrel. Our gunsmith tried to get the barrel off and broke the wrench. He said it was red loctite on so I had him call Mike direct. Mike told him its fitted with a hydraulic press, no loctite. In the end he had to machine it off and he was stunned, it didnt look like a standard thread. This is one of the reasons why we never saw a cold bore shot deviation because his rifles are designed for LE and Gov where they only get one shot and that shot could mean the difference between saving a hostage's life.

If the sniper on scene doesn't have confidence in the cold bore shot, a good hostage negotiator can probably get permission for a few sighters...

Nothing like going to torque something down and you read foot pounds when it’s supposed to be in inch pounds

Mike actually made that mistake when tightening his first barrel, then chose to make it a standard Tac Ops feature rather than admitting he made a mistake.

;)

I'd actually love to know more details about his chosen thread form and the the barrel and action holding tooling/fixturing to achieve those high torque values without marring anything, but I also understand if he's reluctant to share any of his tricks and secrets. I'm sure he's spent quite a bit of time developing his entire build process.
