Rifle Scopes Scope to fit my needs

I have hunted with a fixed 10x just fine. That being said: I try to hunt farther out so if I get a close shot it is accidental and less desirable. At close range: say "40 yards" it is no problem but takes practice. You have to train with it a little more than a lower power variable but it is...

Rifle Scopes Is there a Bushnell Tactical Rep. among us?

True they are not leupold in that regard. If they were, there stuff would be overpriced also. It's a compromise. At least they retain there value reasonably well.

Rifle Scopes Is anyone out there doing thorough tracking tests on their scopes?

Not all scopes in a given price range share equal value. Like all things there is no universal dollar amount that guarantees you get what best serves your specific balance of features and refinements. You can get a $300 scope with the best tracking in the business and you can buy a $1400 scope...

Rifle Scopes Is anyone out there doing thorough tracking tests on their scopes?

I use to but eventually concluded it was waist of time much like the chronograph followed by a truing to eliminate inconsistencies. I had to conclude that I do not care if my bullet is traveling at 2800 vs 2850 or if my scope is tracking .25 vs .26125 vs .27. As long as it is repeatable and...

Rifle Scopes High magnification scope owners, what power do you use 100 to 1000 yards?

I run my 6-24 at 24x 90% of the time. White full size steel can be engaged out to 1K and beyond with a 4x but...... Things to consider: the bad guys never were white, or florescent orange, or stand out in the clearing. Modern bad guys ware body armor which dictates a head shot or extremity...

Rifle Scopes Big game hunting scopes!

I also felt a little silly packing around a 6-24x50 but then my wife spotted a big doe at the edge of the aspen with her 3-9 we looked at it in my 24x, shot then tagged a 4x4 "doe". My other hunting partner and I dove a damn mile down an ugly drainage to get a shot at a big buck bedded down...

Rifle Scopes Please Tell Me How a Mildot Master Works

Built in angle compensation "for dummies" as well. Best money you'll ever spend. Simple, fast, reliable and easy. Even self explanatory. Once you get it in your hand you'll feel silly for asking. I think I have four kicking around in different rifle cases and should pick up another for the next...

""Best"" "other" caliber for .308 AT rifle?

The list of inherently accurate cartridges that dramatically out perform the 308 is far too extensive to list. Barrel life is the 308s best quality. Any of the 6.5 intermediate rounds should serve you far better at the 1200+/- and then there is the magnum category (any of which) are far better...

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

Obviously the 45 acp is the greatest handgun caliber of all time because................of the ones I have had, I liked it best. So now that age old debate is settled: The best self defense gun is the one you can use effectively. While not my first choice, My 22lr is the only handgun I can rapid...

Rcbs rock chucker single stage press as good as they say?

Had mine for about 20 years, dad had it at least that long before me I expect. Works great, never had a hitch of any kind. Makes the most accurate ammo I have ever fired hands down. Money well spent, you will not regret it.

Rifle Scopes Do you typically use ALL that magnification?

I've found I like the 6-24. I use 6x to find the target and 24x for shooting. Even just a zero check at 100 yards I'm using it all, all the time. Keep hearing how I'll need to dial back for mirage...........still waiting for the stars to align and give me a better picture at 16x than I had at...

    Range Report New 30cal magnum?

I'm thinking the long action 300 WSM and appropriate throat is all I need without going up to the ultra mag. Pretty stiff competition in the 30cal magnum category. Any new 300 mag has a long uphill fight or a quick downward spiral............. Steep country in either case.

    $2000 and no REAL idea

If you shooting "live" targets at 1k.........Magnum is a word to study carefully and conservatively. Not reloading almost dictates 308win, 6.5 creedmoor for decent match ammo to serve most purposes with minimum recoil and 300 win, 338 lapua for Large game like elk at that distance. While I...

How to turn a $1k Rifle into a $1750 Rifle in 5 Minutes...

Read some discussions of his work in the forums and then dealt with Kyle exactly one time= cheek pieces x3 for bolt guns. That pretty much cleared the board of competition in the chassis considerations department. Looking forward to the element in some savage and maybe tikka.

    .308 guys, varget velocity questions.

Chronographs are liars. They can't help it, it's the nature of the beast. I have retired mine because I got sick of having to true everything afterward anyway. Now I cut to the chase and DOPE it, much simpler and cheaper.

    .308 guys, varget velocity questions.

I'm almost 2650 fps out of an unusually fast 16.5" =178 amax/lapua/210m/43.0 varget. The only way to really determine relevant velocity without a chrono or even with most cronos is to: A:note your environmentals and weapon specifics B:zero your rifle at 100. C: dial till you getting center hits...

From Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist to McMillan A5 . . . my stab at stock modification.

Assuming you are referring to the cheek riser.......The choate tactical is hollow in the but stock but choate sells a block with built in hardware and cheek rest that match the stock. It is about $90 available direct from choate.

    Sell me on 6.5 Creedmoor

"Some people might say the missing with 308 like that is good "practice". I call it "frustrating". ANY cartridge will require you to dope the wind @ 1000 yards, or even 600. So you won't be cheating yourself out of some kind of fundamental learning by skipping 308. Regardless, to make good hits...

To bed or not to bed.....

Yes, it would be equally beneficial. When I bed a rifle I do not torque the bolts down at all, I use bolts with the head cut off as guides and then strap the action and stock together so nothing moves but do not apply any stress such as torquing down might cause. Hopefully one of the...

To bed or not to bed.....

I would bed behind it, leaving the sides and front free. Bedding may or may not improve anything but it sure is not going to hurt.
