Long Range AR-15 Build - Advice Needed

I am planning my first AR-15 long-range build and have been combing through the archives here and elsewhere trying to educate myself. I understand that the barrel, bolt, and trigger have the biggest impact on accuracy. My biggest question concerns the receivers that will be the heart of the...

    Redding Bushing Selection Help

I chamfer and deburred the cases but I guess I need to get more aggressive? Any thoughts on the proper busing size? If you are indicating that the mouth may be flared out because of inadequate case prep that would mean that the measurement I am taking off of the center of the neck is more...

    Redding Bushing Selection Help

For those that reload for precision long range. I have a question regarding bushing selection for the Redding Neck Sizing Die. I am attempting to size my necks to get approximately 0.001" smaller than the bullet diameter (0.308"). The attached images are Lapua brass which was previously fired...

308Win Load Question - POI Shift and Velocity

Thanks for the response. What was throwing me was that I would have expected the increased speed to result in a flatter trajectory and therefore an increase in the POI. Either way I guess it doesn't matter because it seems to be shooting well enough. I remeasured the gun today and realized...

308Win Load Question - POI Shift and Velocity

Anyone have any idea why groupings would shift lower as the charge is increased? 308Win | 175SMK | Varget | Lapua Brass | CCI BR-2 | 0.020" from hard jam in lands. 100 rounds loaded in one sitting, 10 per charge weight, split into two days of shooting. All 5-shot groups. Breakdown of...

Savage Precision Carbine vs Savage Model 10/110 FCP HS Precision - .308

So you are saying just a thing layer over the front and rear aluminum bedding blocks rather than over the entire length of the action? Similar to this picture? Would you also bed the recoil lug or are the tolerances on the aluminum bedding blocks tight enough that it isn't necessary?

Savage Precision Carbine vs Savage Model 10/110 FCP HS Precision - .308

Thanks everyone for your input. I especially appreciate the opinions from those on this site since I know the quality of shooters and depth of knowledge. fdkay, what is the distinction you are making between full bedding and skim bedding of the action? I think what I was envisioning doing would...

Savage Precision Carbine vs Savage Model 10/110 FCP HS Precision - .308

I have decided to take the leap and get into long range shooting and have narrowed my selection down to two primary choices but I have not been able to find a direct comparison. The two primary choices. I have narrowed my decision down to (both in .308 Win): Savage Model 10 Precision Carbine...

    Cartridge Selection Help Requested

Cartridge Selection Help Requested Thanks for the input from both of you. Glad to hear I wasn't missing anything in what I was considering for the .308. I don't anticipate hunting big game at very long range (yet) so I might have to go back and consider the 6.5 Creedmore. The offerings in...

    Cartridge Selection Help Requested

I know the topic may seem a little basic, but I did spend quite a bit of time using the search function and other internet based searches before posting. Any input on potential flaws in my thought process or assumptions which I made which are not realistic would be greatly appreciated.

    Cartridge Selection Help Requested

I am new to posting on the forum but I have been reading for a while. I am looking to get into the world long range shooting and have been researching. My basic goals / parameters are: • Would like to potentially shoot paper out to 1,000 yards (assuming I can even find a range) • 99% of the...

    Savage fv-sr build

I have never bedded a rifle either. Getting ready to do mine but have a question on the proper measurement for the pillars which I started a thread on but haven't gotten any responses yet. My gun shoots very well but seems to throw a flyer every once in a while even with sorted ammo (weight and...

Advice Needed: Savage Mark II Bedding Question

I have been combing over the internet trying to decide on the best way to bed my Savage FV-SR in a Boyds Tacticool. My question primarily relates to the proper length for the pillars. Should the pillars be the exact dimension between the action studs and the bottom metal or should I be...

    Savage fv-sr build

Check out the Apachee Trigger upgrade. It's cheaper than a full drop in trigger and completely eliminated the creep and wobble from my trigger. I also can set the trigger pull below 1lb. Have you done a bedding job on yours yet? How does it shoot? I have an almost identical setup.
