    Re: 5.56 HomeDefense Ammo Suggestions I think I would tend to lump varmint bullets in the same category as birdshot as far as self/home defense goes. Anything that has enough penetration to stop a bad guy has enough penetration to kill an innocent. There are no magic bullets.
