    Question about Siera bullets

Re: Question about Siera bullets As already mentioned, the ogive and length of the Palma bullet is optimized for 1000 yard flight. The 155 Palmas work great at 1000 yards. Bullets easily stay supersonic and they fly great on a calmer day.

help please new lapua wont go in to die!!

Re: help please new lapua wont go in to die!! You need to move the expander ball DOWN. It is too high in the die and preventing the neck from contracting, into the neck sizing portion of the die.

Rifle Scopes Leveling Scope on a Savage

Re: Leveling Scope on a Savage Believe me, you'll know as soon as you mount the scope and have to dial in windage to get near the target. You'll know!!!

Rifle Scopes Leveling Scope on a Savage

Re: Leveling Scope on a Savage You cannot trust the pictinny rail on a savage action because, so often, their mounting holes are misplaced on the receiver. So.... The place to level is on the back of the receiver, below the bolt, just in front of the safety. You'll see two, flat...

Rifle Scopes How do you check for and adjust for parallax?

Re: How do you check for and adjust for parallax? You may discover, as I have, that adjusting parallax to correct setting reveals that diopter ring has not (previously) been properly set. In other words, you will only have correct parallax setting AND good focus if the scope has been...

    JBM I pad software

Re: JBM I pad software If you have a 3G enabled pad, JBM can do amazing things. Do your chonographing and zeroing on one day and have the program get the particulars of the atmosphere from the NWS. Shoot on another day, using the dope from the first day, and get the real time atmospheric...

Bullet seating question. Some harder than others.

Re: Bullet seating question. Some harder than others. I had similar problem with Lapua brass on first loading. Chamfering the case mouths made things run consistently and smoothly. Some little burrs seem to have been the problem.

Lets talk about benches and press height

Re: Lets talk about benches and press height Just finished a new bench. Made it 42" high. Works well standing. With an Aeron work stool by Herman Miller, it works great sitting down.

Best 1,000 yard rifle in .260 Rem for $1,000ish?

Re: Best 1,000 yard rifle in .260 Rem for $1,000ish? I have a Savage Model 12 LRP in .260 Remington and it is GTG. 1/2 minute groups out of the box -- before working up loads. The gun often shoots into one hole at 200 yards. (makes spotting the target a pain in the keester). I have a 5R...

    Soft case options?

Re: Soft case options? Boyt is the only one. It's called the scoped varminter, or some, such thing. Good news is that Boyt makes the Cabela's cases. So, if you want Boyt quality without the steep price (99 bucks), look to Cabela's for the same case for about 65 bucks, or so.

Rifle Scopes NightForce direct mount for Rem 700: bedding?

Re: NightForce direct mount for Rem 700: bedding? I did not bed mine and it's been rock solid since the day I put it on. It is a very solid arrangement on the Remington receiver. I cannot imagine any benefit from bedding it. But, I suppose some guys like to fiddle with stuff. I find time...

Re: Nightforce 5.5-22x56 HS/ZS on 700 Milspec 5R I've recently gone through this for the second time. Don't ask for anyone's advice, because they'll just tell you what they did, or what they typically do. If you haven't bought the scope yet, please reconsider the objective size. I have a...

    moa at 1000yrds

Re: moa at 1000yrds The "X" ring on a 1000 yard target is 1moa. The "10" ring is 2 moa. Guys regularly shoot 9 out of 10 into the ten ring after sighters (which can be anywhere from one to ten shots, depending on the day). Shooting a lot of "Xs" is another story. Our best shooters might...

Hornady's 140 BTHP or AMAX anyone (260 REM)

Re: Hornady's 140 BTHP or AMAX anyone (260 REM) I have shot exactly 150 AMAX 140s through my new Savage Model 12 LRP in 260. Right off the bat, with the first load (that I guessed at) the rifle was shooting 1/2 MOA at 200 yards. By the end of the chrono session, I was shooting five inch...

178g hpbt over varget min and max

Re: 178g hpbt over varget min and max My buddy and I started with about 45 grains of Varget and, over the past two years, have gradually dropped the amount of powder down to below 42 grains. It seems the groups we get at 1000 yards get better each time we reduce the load. The rifle is a lot...

    Which 308 brass?

Re: Which 308 brass? Lake City often runs long and requires trimming to start, in my experience. I use Lapua Palma, which has a small primer pocket. I think it makes a difference.
