223 Rem brass from ar 15

Re: 223 Rem brass from ar 15 It won't hurt a thing, and is probably from the brass hitting the brass deflector on your upper receiver.

    First batch

Re: First batch Sure, just be sure to protect anything you value from overspray. Nothing wrong with Lee's Liquid Alox; a lot of guys thin it 50/50 or so with mineral spirits and get perfectly acceptable results.

    Casting Bullets!

Re: Casting Bullets! FWIW, the Lee tumble-lube bullets are designed to be shot as-cast, without sizing. By all means, do join the Cast Boolits forum!

New to reloading, need some info on .308 loads.

Re: New to reloading, need some info on .308 loads. You're getting good advice so far. I strongly recommend these two books for new reloaders: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=738288 http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=217655 I also strongly recommend...

    Remington Model 7?

Re: Remington Model 7? Totally different animal; it takes different stocks, triggers, scope mounts (I think), etc. If you're looking for a lightweight hunting rifle, that sounds like a good deal. If you're looking for a donor action to build a precision rifle on, keep looking.

How accurate can a wood-stock M1 be made?

Re: How accurate can a wood-stock M1 be made? Clint Fowler can build you a triple-lugged M1 Garand that will consistently shoot sub-MOA groups. It won't be cheap, and you won't be able to retain your GI stock. http://www.m1-m1a-ar15.com/

.308 AR Match Chamber - What dies should I use?

Re: .308 AR Match Chamber - What dies should I use? That should do the trick. It will save you from trimming your brass so often, and it should contribute to longer brass life.

I'm needing some advice on dies and technique

Re: I'm needing some advice on dies and technique Are you asking about neck sizing for the M1A or the .300 Win Mag? You won't have much success neck sizing for the M1A. If you use a Ball powder in your Dillon, it will load perfectly acceptable ammo without trickling powder charges. The...

    Gunsmithing Barrel nut torque specs?

Re: Barrel nut torque specs? The torque specs on the AR-15/M16 barrel nut are 30-80 ft-lbs. If you don't have a torque wrench, buy one from Harbor Freight, and do the job right. There really is a benefit to applying Moly grease to the receiver threads and torquing the nut three times, like...

    Gunsmithing Barrel Length

Re: Barrel Length I've hunted with some pretty long rifles - an M1A, and bolt guns with 26-27" barrels, and a flintlock with a 32" barrel. Granted, the flintlock is probably only marginally longer than the 27" bolt gun, since it doesn't have the length of an 'action' in there. I much <span...

    fitting optics an m1a supermatch

Re: fitting optics an m1a supermatch Good advice; either the Smith or Sadlak mounts are good to go. Sadlak offers exceptional customer service. I have a Smith mount and Badger rings on my M1A, but the Badger rings are probably a bit of overkill. If I had to do it over, I'd probably buy a...

Photos Rifle Range picture - Need some help

Re: Rifle Range picture - Need some help So far, we have it placed to AFTER 1910, because the style of campaign hat changed then, and both the 'old' and 'new' styles are visible in the pic. The leather puttees also date it to pre-WWI.

Photos Rifle Range picture - Need some help

Re: Rifle Range picture - Need some help I think that photo was taken before the Great War (WWI); or perhaps right after. I believe that is a Winchester A5 scope on the first rifle. I agree, this photo is of a rifle competition, not unit qualification. The national matches were conducted...
