Rifle Scopes US optics 5-25 question

trying to convince myself to bite the bullet and fork over the dough for a good piece of glass. I narrowed it down to the nightforce BEAST but had always admired the US optics scopes I've seen around on the hide and decided to check them out. ive always heard they've got the clearest picture you...

Gunsmithing barrel opinions for a savage

so would having a larger diameter breech allow you to use higher pressure loads? something I've noticed is how the powder charge from the load data varies from guys using savage 338s (90-92gr.) vs like a remington or a sako (96-99gr.) is that just coincidence or could that be because of the...

Gunsmithing barrel opinions for a savage

thanks for the clarification! i knew they were some how attached at one point just never got the full story i guess. what are the advantages to having a larger breech? is it just kind of like a safety deal?

Gunsmithing barrel opinions for a savage

i plan on getting a 338 lapua savage long action, probably a 111 LRH or a 110 FCP as a donor. at least from the pictures they seem a bit more rigid than the standard open top long actions. i would like to move up a step to the .338 edge but my main concerns with doing so are it fitting in a...

338 lapua to a mile. dope?

trying to find a scope for a 338 lapua project. my biggest concern is am i going to have enough elevation in the scope. most of the scopes in my price range (i know i know, just spend the money, i don't yet have 3k to drop on a S&B or Steiner, ild like to keep it closer to $1500 until i can...

    Gunsmithing clamp on muzzle brakes

thanks! i was actually looking at the witt machine brakes but i think i will go with threading it. ill be sure to check out SAS Tactical. i couldn't find a good thread on that i liked to look of that would fit a thick bull barrel/wasnt a ridiculously priced suppressor adapter. thanks again brother!

    Gunsmithing clamp on muzzle brakes

building a project 338 this summer and I'm starting to get all the bits and pieces lined up and priced out. been finding more and more clamp on brakes. always kind of seemed like the cheap half @$$ed way of doing things to me but I've never owned one so my opinion is pretty much based off of...

Gunsmithing What is the longest time a gunsmith took?

month and a half to drill and tap a mauser for a scope base. went back every week or so to check on it. figured it would be a quick deal but i guess not. when i finally got it back i took off the base to check everything and everything was covered with cutting oil and something that looked like...

Gunsmithing barrel opinions for a savage

going to start up a .338 lapua project rifle this summer. chosen to use a savage action because i can do a good bit of the work myself over a 700 (would like a surgeon, stiller etc but not as flexible as far as scope base and chassis system selection goes) i would be trusting a gunsmith to get...

Gunsmithing savage 338 lapua long action?

figured this might be the right place for this question. would a savage 338 lapua action be different (longer wider etc) than a standard savage long action? reason why I'm asking is I'm looking into an XLR chassis. thanks y'all

    338 Lapua, 95gr. Retumbo??

been looking at some load data for .338 lapua mag for 300gr berger OTM. the berger website says the max load for retumbo is 89.5 gr. which puts out around 2680 fps. one of the loads i was looking at today says that he put 95 gr. of retumbo that got him around 2925 fps.
