Gunsmithing Bushmaster: kinda funny, mostly sad.

Yeah. Somebody put it in the box at the factory and the BCG would not even go all the way into the upper!

Gunsmithing Bushmaster: kinda funny, mostly sad.

A gun store owner asked me to stop by. "Nobody can figure out why the BCG will not close in this AR." I stopped by. NIB Bushy AR has a Mid length gas tube installed in the gas block which is at the carbine position....

    Gunsmithing Cerakote setup

Yeah what Wannashootit said. Over spray &fume control" is for your own personal health and safety. The thing to be concerned with is keeping oil out of the process. Buy a new air hose...I'ts never had air compressor oil/vapor in it. Get a good Oil remover to mount on your air compressor...

Gunsmithing Marlin 1894......"New style" parts conversion?

So a customer has given me a(true) Marlin made Marlin 1894 lever rifle chambered in 44 Rm to fix. It's not a "REMlin" with the "new style" parts as listed and called by Numrich. The carrier (cartridge lifter) is worn out beyond service. The gun gets the classic "Marlin Jam" every time ya work...

Gunsmithing Taking play out of bipod?

How much dough you got in it? Sell it? Send it to a 'smith to tighten if that even requires a little machine work. ? I got through even my high end 'pods with machine work to make them even more rigid.

    Gunsmithing RANT: Threadlocker from factory

Yeah just use a Propane plumbers torch (not all that hot in the torch world), or a (dimensionally) small torch if the screw is in the safety already and the safety is in the aluminum. Aluminum has a lowish melting point, and to make matters worse you don't realize you have it that hot till it...

Gunsmithing Anybody Here Good at Cerakote for Decent Prices?

Yup...this is why I stopped contributing to the hide on a large scale, or actually at all many, many years ago. Rampant, unchecked assholery. And I'm very frequently running into people that quit the hide due to unchecked assholery. Which is actually a fault of the mods in those particular areas...

Gunsmithing CeraKote Elite series....325 mesh strainer?

So I have been squirting Elite.... It requires you to strain it through a 325 mesh strainer... Anybody found a great deal on these? I have not found a place to get it except directly from Cerakote, and they are very proud of them! Thanks for any leads....

    Gunsmithing Pacific Tool and Gauge

Don't know who quadruple overcharged my card at PTG. But I Talked to Dave himself. 4 times. He kept saying "he'd personally see to it." He never did evidently. I never got my stolen money back. Its been at least a 7 years. And He started simply refusing my calls. Explain that away dude. We are...

Gunsmithing Gunsmith: Action in hand vs Prefit

Unless your running a top shelf custom action, you want your Gunsmith to have action and barrel at the same time. And if its not a custom high precision action....it;s silly to not have him true up the action and bolt at the same time. Cheers.

    Gunsmithing Pacific Tool and Gauge

If Dave Kiff had the only remaining ammo and or reloading components on planet earth, I'd take up archery. Dude screwed me over hard core. I was out of state headed for a Tactical PRS match......stopped for gas...my debit card was declined. I was stranded essentially. Zero money, except the...

    Gunsmithing Muzzle thread length

(I was a machinst for 20+ years before I turned gunsmith) Don' t know if anyone said it....but standard thread engagement is..the length of the threads should be the same as the diameter. So, a 5/8" thread diameter should have a 5/8" thread length. 1" dia threads should be 1" long. This...

Gunsmithing Need some help - Bolt Lugs

What Mr. T said is exactly right. However, if you want your rifle to giggle with glee, and if you want the right to look down your nose at mere mortals that use rag-lar grease, Brownell's Action Magic grease is the kitties whiskers and is good to have on hand in general for any gun dude. Good...
