Gunsmithing Anyone know the throat dimension for a 284 win?

Re: Anyone know the throat dimension for a 284 win? I'm confused by your base to ogive measurements changing so much. They are usually very close to each other. The ogive is supposed to be about where the lands engage the bullet. The distance from there to the base is a constant.

Gunsmithing Ok Savage Genius Gurus I've got a problem

Re: Ok Savage Genius Gurus I've got a problem Grind it out. A dremel makes quick work of it. The next problem you might run into is your new bolt head may be for a small firing pin. If needed, drill it with a #25 drill bit to the vent. Done both to several bolt bodies and heads.

Gunsmithing How to clean up old, worn out action

Re: How to clean up old, worn out action Don't re-cut the threads on the Savage action. Doing so prevents it from ever being able to use pre-fit barrels. Don't worry about the threads. You can protect them with some anti-seize when you screw your next barrel on. If your going to Duracoat...

Re: HELP savage 10 which .223 blind mag box? The one on the left is a stagger feed mag box. The one on the right is a center feed. They are not interchangeable. You need this one, but you won't need the bottom cap. It snaps right off...

? on a barrel savage swap

Re: ? on a barrel savage swap Yes, it's easy enough. I've built several small shank WSM's and 338 Edges. Just do your homework and take it slow. You'll also need a firing pin assembly. The short action magnums are different length than the short action standards.

Re: need savage bolt head You know, I really cringed when I wrote that. But, there aren't any other places that I know of that sell all of the factory Savage parts like the PPC bolt head,DBM frames and Hinged Floor plates. Another thought is to have a .223 bolt head opened up.
