Gunsmithing black oxide in a bore

Re: black oxide in a bore Don't worry about it. After a few shots everything burnishes back to where it was. Blueing/black oxide is done at 290-305 degrees. There's not much you could plug it with that would hold up well anyways.

Gunsmithing Can toomuch freebore lead to unsafe jump distance?

Re: Can toomuch freebore lead to unsafe jump distance? Your throating reamer needs to be as close to bullet dia. as possible. .0003" to .0005" total over, not per side. A thou would be a little loose.

Mod. 70, push to control feed?

Re: Mod. 70, push to control feed? Slight brain fade, I forgot the bump feeds have a Rem type ejector. Same thing still applies though. First make sure the ejector spring is in good shape with good tension. That may fix it right there. The ejector throw may need to be increased slightly...

    Gunsmithing Bedding issue!

Re: Bedding issue! The mag box has to have clearance. I wouldn't be surprised to see your groups shrink alot by trimming your mag box. Just a very slight ammount of wiggle room is all it needs.

Mod. 70, push to control feed?

Re: Mod. 70, push to control feed? The extractor has nothing to do with it. You need to have the ejector lenghtend or a new longer one made. The ejector timing is in the length of the ejector and your short Whisper case has thrown that off. All you need is a gunsmith that understands M70s.

    308 rifle for LR hunting....

Re: 308 rifle for LR hunting.... You might give the 7-08 a look. Much better ballistics out of the same case. The 162 Amax or 168 Berger at around 2700 retains alot more energy.

    Gunsmithing Ruger 77 action

Re: Ruger 77 action There are better choices. The barrel tennon and bolt bore are seperates features when cast and no effort is made to put back anything even close to centerlne. In other words the barrel and bolt generaly dont line up very well.
