Gunsmithing Savage action for a 338 Norma mag

Re: Savage action for a 338 Norma mag Something built on a 375 Ruger would work as a repeater fairly easily. Like a 7mm or a 30 cal.

Gunsmithing Tip on removing muzzle brake on a Savage 516...?

Re: Tip on removing muzzle brake on a Savage 516...? I found this.... Lock it in a vice, then after you heat it up, wrap a rag around the break, put a tight fitting nail through it, hook it with the claw end of a hammer and turn it counter clockwise. Just like if you were taking a nail out...

Gunsmithing Savage action for a 338 Norma mag

Re: Savage action for a 338 Norma mag The Lapua's are large shank. 300win's are built on small shanks.

Gunsmithing Savage 516, bolt action pistol, 308.......

Re: Savage 516, bolt action pistol, 308....... Is it the adjustable (on/off) brake? If it is, it will be the 9/16-28. The only brakes that Savage used "normal" threads are on the one the newer models with the baffle style brakes.

Gunsmithing Savage 516, bolt action pistol, 308.......

Re: Savage 516, bolt action pistol, 308....... I think the "Adjustable" Savage Brakes are threaded oddly, using a 9/16-28.

Gunsmithing Savage action for a 338 Norma mag

Re: Savage action for a 338 Norma mag Many believe that it is beyond the abilities of the action to withstand the bolt thrust from the bigger case head. If you were to do it, I would only recommend it be done with a shouldered barrel. I would also recommend staying away from hot loads to...

    Gunsmithing case stuck in gun

Re: case stuck in gun Before you do anything that can damage your action. Remove the action from the stock, then remove the trigger just to make sure that you don't have anything binding on the bolt that can be removed. I'm still thinking you have a problem with your trigger/safety that was...

    Gunsmithing Savage magazine Question

Re: Savage magazine Question It may feed ok from the magnum box. Try it first. I've had a few picky ones that didn't like to feed, to I switched to the other box. The easy way to remove the box is to screw the rear action screw into the front hole. Take the old factory recoil lug (you did...

    Gunsmithing Savage 110

Re: Savage 110 338 Norma has a .590 case head, like the Lapua and the big Weatherby's. If I were to build a large magnum, I'd want the most meat around the chamber. The only real way to do that with a Savage action is to loose the nut and have a shouldered barrel. But, like I said before...

    Gunsmithing Savage 110

Re: Savage 110 It would be pushing it past it's design. However it would make a very good platform for a 338Edge. Which will outperform the Norma. Cheaper dies and brass too.
