    I have a 6.5 PRC backordered, can't wait to get this rifle and put it through the paces. I plan to run the 155gr Bergers, once available, but will run 147 ELD's for now. This will be strictly a long range hunting rifle, no competitions with it, except maybe a "hunter class" in the NALRSA next year.

    You have $10,000. What do you build? Something probably based on the Cheytec case as I probably wouldn't otherwise. Hard to find anywhere to shoot beyond a mile around here and the 338 handles that fine, but would still like to have one just to play with.

    Barrel life is probably a toss up at best, as mentioned, really depends how hard you push it. That being said, I would go with a 6.5 CM if you plan on running it on a short action through AICS magazines. You will be able to load to mag length and not have the bullet taking up case capacity...

    8.5 twist is marginal for the 140 Berger Hybrids at low elevations. To answer your question, 26" will get you as far as the caliber is capable.

    Why buy an expensive Lapua, just for the action, just buy a cheap package gun and strip it down. If you want a large shank action, the 116 Alaskan Brush hunter in 375 Ruger is still a large shank action and in stainless to boot. I know this for sure as I just bought my second one to build on...

    .300WM 1-13 twist

    It will depend a lot on what type of bullet you shoot. If shooting VLD's with secant ogives probably 175gr maybe the 185 hybrids. If you shoot something with a tangent ogive 185gr maybe 200gr.
