    Help with scoping an M1A

Here's a BPT with medium height 30mm Leupold rings. The main issue to be aware of is the clearance b/t the rear sight aperture and the rear ocular bell of the scope. Here one can see it's very close with the hooded NM rear aperture. (You'll likely need to keep the rear aperture at the bottom of...

Winchester Model 70: Need proof that the is was official used by army/police before '66.

As noted in this thread, a few hundred M70s were ordered by the USMC in early WWII, but it was never issued as "standard military weapon." They were used as target rifles in the 1950s and a small number used as sniper rifles in Vietnam as early as late 1965, but I think the top sentence of the...

CMP M1 Advanced Maintenance Course-Build your own "Expert Grade".

There is a long but obscure history about the bullet guide - but the bottom line is that fulcrum stud/point (shown as the polished surface) must measure at least 0.175" in height. Once it goes below that, rifle won't work correctly. Goods news is that it's a $15 or $20 part. I would hope the...

    McMillan Return Stock

I won't address the stock question which has been answered, but I will address the sling question. It is likely fake. Why? All of the observed 1950s-60s era M1907 slings were imprint stamped with a leather stamping die regarding the date of the MRT treatment. This lasted up until 1969...

Redfield 1903A? Scope Mount. Legit or Repro? Update

Despite the odd staking, I suspect it's a WWII era sight base given the slopped/bevel on the back was reportedly unique to the 190A4. The post-war mounts didn't have that bevel as shown via the "B" reference. The windage knob should also have a small factory stake at the bolt (see seen here)...

New Project: Fallshirmjaeger Gewehr 42 NEW: Test Fire Video

That little factoid is quite incredible. I have said it before, and I'll say it again: You got skills(!).

    Remington PSR / Need Help??

Presumably those holes are for a Picatinny rail. (This one is a Gray Ops part, but same concept is my best guess)

    Questions about my m40a1

This would appear to be what is sometimes called a "Hobby Lobby" build. In the past, in order to "maintain their gunsmithing skills," some USMC MOS 2112s have had discretion/privilege to build 'gratis'/pro bono rifles or pistols, using civilian parts, provided to them by active duty USMC...

M 24 Advanced Sniper Accessory kit?

I agree, very nice piece of M24 kit(!).

M 24 Advanced Sniper Accessory kit?

Because the M24 was used for such a long time, circa 1988/89 until 2010 or so, pieces of the kit changed, and accessories were added in the 200Xs, which were not issued in the earlier days. Anything that was issued with an M24 will have some value, even if it's just a Mil-Dot Master. That M24...

    Israeli m14 sniper rifle

Nice shooting in that video, thanks for posting it. I wish I had property like that....maybe in retirement. Digressing, but here's some random info for anyone interested in some of the scopes used on IDF M14 sniper rifles. First I will note that the IDF had limited funding in the post-1948 era...

    M40a1 build guide

Thanks for that pic. That rifle/scope combo has a very nice patina(!). Well done.

So what did I just buy? Scope mount edition

I googled "crossbow adjustable scope mount" and saw similar mounts, but not the exact one seen here. As RTH1800 noted, the numbers on the knob are likely for yards. I read that most crossbows are effective out to about 60 yards, but some high-end ones perhaps out to 100 yards.

Anyone know the dimension of the front sight base for the M24?

There were two sights sets for the M24, early ones were Redfield. When they went out of business in late 1980s or early 1990s, the U.S. Army sourced them from OK Weber. The only front sight block I have is the later version from Otto Weber before he passed. Here’s the height of the later M24...

    U.S. Army/Navy/USMC M14-based sniper and DMR/SDM rifles circa late-1960s to late 201Xs

I don't think this picture was posted on this thread before, but this is reportedly a Delta Force (correction) SEAL team 6 team in Somalia circa 1993. On the bottom left of both pics is what some call an "M25" sniper rifle. (Probably SOCOM M14 sniper rifle built at Crane). In bottom pic, same...

M40 barrel contours as I know it for now.....

Frank, good luck with your build, and please show us some pics when it's done. I wanted one for years, and by 2019 I had collected the requisite parts.

New McMillan HTG M40A1 smear stocks!!!

It's not just that old Atkinson muzzle crown that had some variation. Here's some pics I took back in 2016 of some of the last of the M40A1s kept at PWS. If you study them closely, you will see that almost all have some very small variations. I won't repeat what an active 2112 said about it, but...

New McMillan HTG M40A1 smear stocks!!!

I have not seen a new one either, but a local guy mentioned that the new barrel he looked at don't have the 'fine machine texture' finish like the originals, and are smooth to the touch. I don't know how to photograph or technically describe the finish on the original Schneider barrels, other...
