    Gunsmithing Clip slotting the M700

Then why in the hell the clip slot? You can't charge the mag with a clip with a base and optic installed either. I was referring to when you are charging the mag using a five round clip!X WTF. Is it just for looks?

    Gunsmithing Clip slotting the M700

You might want to make a cut along the left side of the top rail. It will facilitate feeding by allowing the thumb to push the cartridges all the way down into the magazine. Just my .02

Gunsmithing Another way to skin the cat?

Everything must be trued to one common axis. If the threads are not concentric to the bolt raceway to start with, then it will not be when finished. Man, I can't imagine trying to bore out the bolt raceway with as small a boring bar as would be needed. It needs to be reamed, first things...

Gunsmithing I guess I rolled a chip in this chamber?

You ain't gonna polish that out and you ain't gonna get rid of it by setting back one turn, it will take more than that depending on how deep it is. You probably weren't turning it fast enough. I have found too slow will cause this and chatter. Also, make sure you are using the correct...

    Gunsmithing Kinky Chit Friday...

I am envious, I would have to do it on a manual lathe. Why not just bore out the action and thread it to 1 3/16 thread and thread the barrel to fit? Jimn

Gunsmithing Stock barrel after truing action?

    * Food for thought on one scenario with a partial re-machine (everything recut except receiver threads) ..... If all critical features of the receiver are biased off axis in the same general direction and all of those features are recut except the receiver threads, wouldn't that cause a good bit...

Gunsmithing Stock barrel after truing action?

Not trying to imply anything here; what I was trying to say was it ain't enuf to just face off the receiver. I have seen some of them out by .030TIR. There are some smiths out thee that consider those short steps to be a "trued" action and charge accordingly

Gunsmithing Stock barrel after truing action?

You obviously have never set up one of the factory actions and witnessed How bad some are. You are wasting your money on a "truing" job if that is all you have done to it.

    Gunsmithing Problems w/ custom rifle

My question is this: Why did he even have to D&T the receiver hole in the first place, stripped out maybe? When I first saw this post, my initial reaction was that he had indeed drilled through to the chamber. Jim
