    M1a

Re: M1a I was in the same boat a month ago. I was looking at the Polytech as a way to save some money. In the end, I determined it wasn't worth the $200-$300 savings. I bought a Springfield instead.

Gunsmithing .300 Rem Ultra Mag to .416 Rigby Conversion

Re: .300 Rem Ultra Mag to .416 Rigby Conversion The COAL of the Rigby is 3.75". It's more than a 1/8" longer than the 300 UM. If it could be done, the action might have to be opened up in the bottom, custom magazine, maybe the port will have to be opened to eject loaded cartridges. Sell...

    Gunsmithing Milling Machines

Re: Milling Machines Don't get hung up on the Bridgeport name. There are several different US made brands that can be had, used, around the price of a new Grizzly. You'll need an indexer, with a chuck. You'll need skill too...

Gunsmithing Risks with Second Hand Rifle

Re: Risks with Second Hand Rifle I have never heard of a 'factory second' rifle. It might turn out to be a good deal, and I hope it does, but paying $800-$900 for a potential donor gun if accuracy isn't acceptable is false economy.

    Suppressors Yet another knife question.....

Re: Yet another knife question..... You need to figure out what you will be doing with the knife. Utility to me is using it in any way, shape or form. That means up to and including batoning. The Nim Cub thatg is mentioned is way to thin blade wise. K-Bars will stand up to that abuse, if...

Gunsmithing Can toomuch freebore lead to unsafe jump distance?

Re: Can toomuch freebore lead to unsafe jump distance? Weatherby uses large amounts of freebore to allow their cartridges to do what they do. You would be correct that short fctory ammo would probably produce horrible accuracy, but I don't think it would be unsafe. Fouling might be an...

Gunsmithing Couple questions about bolt truing/chambering

Re: Couple questions about bolt truing/chambering For what it's worth to you, Brownells sells a HSS ground tool to do bolt faces. It won't stay sharp forever, so you'll have to learn to sharpen HSS eventually, which isn't far away from grinding your own. Just takes practice.

    Suppressors Long range handgunning...

Re: Long range handgunning... The longest shots I have taken with a handgun have been about 200 yards. That was long ago with a scoped Blackhwak in 45 Colt. Punching paper is fun, but when you get to see something fall over, or hear that clang, it adds to the experience. Last weekend I...
