X-dies, do I have to lube inside the neck?

Hey, I'm reloading blaster ammo for my M1919a4 and to speed things up I'de like to get an X-die to minimize trimming. I like Imperial sizing wax and its not too much of a PITA as long as the inside of the neck does not need to be lubed. I understand the X-dies function differently, so is there...

Water spots on my brass after SS media

Hey, im getting strange water spots on my brass. Im tumbling with the usual: 2tbs dawn dish soap, 1/4tsp lemi-shine. Im air drying the brass after rinshing it alot. I get spots after about a full day of drying even though its "dry" and spotless way before that. Its strange ebcause it...

    Hornady TAP 168gr AMAX load

Re: Hornady TAP 168gr AMAX load I had the same experience. Im using the TAP brass (which is REALLY NICE, lasts 10+ reloads, doesnt flake) 43g imr4895 CCI primer and a 168 AMAX. I seat .015 out from the lands and it shoots wicked. I forget the numbers but if you call hornady, they will...

    really low recoil .308?

Re: really low recoil .308? the hodgdon online data center shows an 8 grain max with a 168 for clays, at 1060FPS. This would be perfect as I already have the bullets and powder. Safe? They dont list a minimum, what do you think i should work up from? 6.5?

    really low recoil .308?

Hello. I have a stock remmy 700 SPS with the 26" heavy varmint barrel in .308. I reload 168s over 43grains of IMR 4895. My girlfriend cant handle that, suprisingly (it is a heavy rifle, kicks soft for what it is i believe). I'de like to reload some really soft shooting rounds. Maybe with...

Lee collet die, neck tension, jacket shaving, ahh!

Re: Lee collet die, neck tension, jacket shaving, ahh! Most noticably with once fired (unless i JUST opened my eyes!)

Gunsmithing Waste of time lapping a factory 700s bolt?

As the title suggests. I have a stock .308 700 SPS, only real upgrade is a HS precision stock. I shoot around .5moa regularly at 100 yards w/reloads but im always pushing the limit for a factory rig.... I'm thinking about lapping my lugs. Is this a waste of time on a factory rifle or will I...

Lee collet die, neck tension, jacket shaving, ahh!

Re: Lee collet die, neck tension, jacket shaving, ahh! Im chamfering every loading, after the first time its just a quick touchup. Im using the lee handheld chamfer tool on a zip trim. Not really the most square way to do it, I do get some chatter. Think a VLD done by hand would fix this...

Lee collet die, neck tension, jacket shaving, ahh!

This load works well for me but I get some flyers which really, really could be me. But i want to eliminate possibilies. Im neck sizing with a lee collet die, in my lee challenger press. I chamfer every loading if it needs a touchin' up, inside and out. I also brush the inside of my necks...

    .38 HBWC : too tight?

Re: .38 HBWC : too tight? Dont know if they shoot, I turn 21 in 5 days and then i need to wait for my permit to clear (im in NJ, UGH!) but I have a K38 waiting! About the shavings: none at all. nice clean entry

    .38 HBWC : too tight?

Well, not the best forum to post it but Ide like to heard what you folk have to say. I've ventured onto loading .38 HBWC rounds. Since ive heard how easy it is, and how bad it is, to shrink down the round by not expanding or crimpping properly I went ahead and pulled a loaded round to measure...

Am I being too optomistic looking for .25MOA?

Re: Am I being too optomistic looking for .25MOA? Still testing: Heres what im finding, .665" is my average. I did have it dip down to around .35" twice since my .18" group. Im pretty happy, but still trying to get consistantly below .55" which is my new benchmark

My rifle doesnt like fast loads?

My rifle really, really likes 41 grains 4895[IMR] under a 168gr AMAX (this is .308 BTW). The rifle is my stock 700 with HS precision stock. Ive shoot under .5moa consitantly, with one instance shooting .18" CTC 5 round group. (100 yards) I can pretty much seat the bullet anywhere, but shines...

Am I being too optomistic looking for .25MOA?

Re: Am I being too optomistic looking for .25MOA? I suppose I'll reduce my insanity and shoot for consistant .5MOA. From what this thread has to say, thats alot more realistic and still very, very good. Thanks!

Am I being too optomistic looking for .25MOA?

Re: Am I being too optomistic looking for .25MOA? Thanks for the good words guys. Making me feel a little less crazy I'm not really frustrated (although it may seem as if I am). I think its just that I have nothing to compare to (the only people around here that shoot "high power" shoot...

Am I being too optomistic looking for .25MOA?

Just starting reloading for my STOCK remington 700 varmint in .308. Its only mod is an H-S precision stock. I have a 18x buschnell scope with burris rings and an EGW 20moa picatinny rail. Anyways, I mostly shoot at 100 yards. I so far with a 5 round group acheived .18MOA but only ONCE... so...

Is this too slow for 600 yards?

Re: Is this too slow for 600 yards? Im starting to test around my second best group now, which was 41grains. Im going to try 40.8, 41, and 41.2 next. Im also going to start creeping up higher beggining where i left off with the rough tests, at 43.5 and try to find a higher velocity sweet spot.

Is this too slow for 600 yards?

Re: Is this too slow for 600 yards? Yeah, thats what I was thinking about it being slow. I have lymans 49th book, which lists 38 for start load, 42.5 for max. I loaded starting at 39.5 which shot the best, going up in .5grain incremints up to 43. I found out that 39.5 shot the best...

Is this too slow for 600 yards?

Re: Is this too slow for 600 yards? Unknown. Although I just found this elsewhere, its pretty much what im doing (only difference is the brass really) While you are looking at IMR 4895 here is a load that is very accurate in my Savage bvss. 168 Sierra match king IMR 4895---39.5 grains...
