What was your biggest “aha!” Moment as a beginner?

Trigger control on a pistol: I was brand new, and shooting horribly. The gentleman in the lane at the range asked if he could take a look at my pistol: he handed it back and I assumed the position. As I squeezed the trigger (mashed) no round discharged. He had taken the round out of the...

    .308 Loads

Varget and either H4895 or IMR4895 is what has worked well for me in those bullet weight ranges. My go to though is IMR 4064 under a 185 Berger Juggernaught.

    185 juggernaut

@tnbowhunter ; I can't remember ever using a chrono on this load, sorry, but I'm using Imr 4064, not varget. That gun and a Ruger I have are long throats: for both of them I just look at book oal, and then find a base to ogive length in that neighborhood. Theres lots of wiggle room to work...

    185 juggernaut

With 40.5 grains of IMR 4064 my MilSpec 5r Remington makes me look like I actually know what I'm doing. That gun has a super long throat, so chasing the lands isn't practical or possible. Ragged hole at 100 and I've used them to 1,000 yds.

Measuring distance to lands and chamber distance, obtaining the actual numbers?

I'm not familiar with the video you mention, but I can tell you what works for me: I use the Hornady tool with the threaded case to check where my lands are. Typically I take 10 measurements, add them up and find the average. Then its a simple subtraction problem to establish the amount of...

6.5 CM Berger 130 Gr loads

"I tried shooting the Federal Berger 130 factory ammo and could barely get sub MOA. " You just made my day. I bought a rifle new from a guy and part of the deal was a couple hundred of that ammo. At this point I'm just using them as foulers to make brass. I thought it was me or my rifle, but...

    Inner workings of a semi-auto.

Trigger, glass, barrel: not neccesarily in that order. If you have a good trigger, good glass and good barrel, your hardware is pretty much covered. After that its on you. JMHO....

Mother Daughter Shootout in the liquor store

"I wanted money... I didn't wanna hurt nobody... I did even know if there was bullets in the gun..." That proves my earlier comment; he IS a fucking retard...

Mother Daughter Shootout in the liquor store

Why the f### did the guy go back in? What a retard. And to the ladies: trade whatever those pistols are in on a couple of Glocks or something with a high capacity magazine. Shoot the bad guy to the ground.... edited moments later; the miami herald article explains that the doors were...

Trump and Fienstien on the radio shiting on us

I have no fucks to give. I didn't vote for trump, so he hasn't lied to me. He's as full of shit as anyone else in DC. If Fuckstien wants my ARs, all I can say come and get them hose bag...

Maggie’s How to Rob a Store- Rule 1, don't pick an idiot as your accomplice

Saw on local tv news today. I could watch it 100 times and laugh just as hard as the first.

Use my Hornady and federal or wait for Lapua?

Load them. Shoot them. Repeat as needed. Why bother waiting? Especially if you're a little thin for cash.

    Maggie’s Another shooting....just what we don't need.

I find the picture of that shit bag cuffed offensive: his face still whole; it should be shot off.

    Beginner help

Not a whole lotta difference between the 6.5 Swede, Creed and .260 rem. 6.5 Swede has killed a boat load of moose and elk sized animals in Europe for 100 years. I wouldn't think twice about my 6.5 Creemoore against an elk. In fact, I'll be putting in for a permit this year.

    Beginner help

While not too salty, I have to agree with @BOLTRIPPER on the .308. When I was considering the long range / precsision plunge, it was between .308 and .300 WinMag. What's the saying? The best way to cure a flinch is not to develop one or something along those lines. The .308 is super easy to...

H4350 vs Imr 4451 charge for equivalent load

It’s time to start an argument with the wife and head to the reloading room to bask in the glory of my successful load development and drink a bunch of beer.... From the Texas PRC article... One of the funniest things I've read in a long time!

    Good gear for a beginner?

I'm with Fursniper ; a progressive press is more than capable for producing precision ammo, but there are an awful lot of moving parts to deal with, both figuratively and literally. Handloading is a "touchy-feely" sort of thing and when starting out, developing a "feel' for things is (imho)...

Range Report 175/185 Berger Otm, or other? .308

Berger 185 Juggernauts on top of something like 42 gr of 4064 has been my go to for the past couple of years. Makes me look like genious behind it: ragged holes at 100 and hits to 1000...
